Garden-Patio Outdoor Entertainment System

The Project

We're always thrilled to work with return clients and this project was no exception. Having previously completed work on their shore house in Brigantine, NJ and their farmhouse in Upper Black Eddy, PA, our clients wanted a fun outdoor entertaining space -- but this time, with the added convenience of being steps away in the backyard at their home base in Abington Township.

A covered terrace structure with fireplace was added as an extension of our client's existing patio to allow for an all-season gathering space. Since World Wide Stereo had already installed a high performance outdoor Wi-Fi system just recently, the entire outdoor area was primed for a system upgrade and we were able to customize an outdoor video and audio setup with all the same features and performance you would expect from any great indoor system.

The Video

We installed a 55-inch Samsung Terrace outdoor QLED 4K outdoor Smart TV with matching Samsung Terrace sound bar. With Wi-Fi built-in, The Samsung Terrace TV can connect right to the existing high-speed Wi-Fi infrastructure already in place on the property which meant there was no need for low voltage cabling to be run or retrofitted within the fireplace masonry for a cable box or other video sources. Wi-Fi lets the clients stream content from their favorite providers like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime and built-in Airplay2 allows them to effortlessly play videos and music, or share photos from an iPhone, iPad and Mac directly to the TV. It even has voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant options.

The Terrace TV was built to withstand the elements and look good in the process. It has a wide viewing angle with anti-reflection and an ultra-bright picture with adaptive technology that optimizes picture settings based on surrounding light conditions for optimal viewing all day long. The matching Terrace sound bar also allows our clients to audio cast from their mobile devices with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming. We selected the Samsung full-swing low-profile wall bracket to "kiss" the masonry for a custom look. With an IP55 weather resistant durability rating, our clients can enjoy a movie or game night, rain or shine year-round.

The Audio

All of the audio for this project was added with the intention of filling up our client's backyard with rocking sound, but without visibly interrupting the serenity of the outdoor environment and materials.

For music listening in the covered terrace space, we installed four Bowers & Wilkins 8-inch marine grade in-ceiling speakers in the finished wood-cladding ceiling over the covered terrace and fireplace. We color-matched to the stain in the wood and custom painted the grilles in our workshop to blend seamlessly into the structure.

A Sonance Patio Series 4.1 Landscape Speaker System was also added to a nearby open-air outdoor kitchen to extend the music across the property gathering spaces and complete our clients outdoor entertainment experience. The Sonance satellite speakers are placed strategically within a planting bed to not only hide the speakers within the foliage, but also to direct the sound towards the listening area. The subwoofer is buried and hidden in the ground so as not to disrupt the landscape.

All of the outdoor speakers are powered by a Sonos AMP that we placed in a nearby mechanical room. Our clients have an existing Sonos system in their home, so we simply added their outdoor system to their Sonos network to control with ease from any device. At their fingertips, they now have endless volume, bass and sound clarity - so they can rock their whole back yard.
