Good product but not so good support.
I like the device a lot. It's perfect for private use.
Unfortunately there are no Software updates available.

Would be great to get a few years of support if you are buying a premium product.

Warning - Requires Powered Subwoofer
I bought this amp to power my Sony Surround Speaker system but it will not drive the subwoofer since the Sony speaker is not a powered unit. I cannot find anywhere in the documentation that a power system is required. I only know this now because I sat on hold with customer service until they finally answered and broke the news to me.

Great A/V Receiver
I bought this to replace a 23 year old TEAC AG-D9100 that died. It took about 30 minutes to connect and test. The auto calibration setup was easy and fast. Quality sound with various options depending on the input media. It turns off automatically when I power off the TV and Media source, and turns on automatically when it identifies the TV and media have been turned back on.

STR-DH590 is OK, but...
I got this over Christmas to replace an older Ya**** that passed on. It is primarily for TV sound. This doesn't have all the sound features I was used to, but I finally got adjusted to a good compromise with the setting for "just like it was mixed". Boy, that varies from channel to channel. The real downside is the HOME menu feature that you CANNOT stop from going through on every start up. It simply can't just return to the last setting, so you have to have it's proprietary remote to CHOOSE, CHOOSE, and EXIT. It's is annoying, it has been reported, but Sony doesn't seem to concerned about fixing it. Other than that, it is OK for the price.

I bought it in the states, im from argentina and it didnt turn on.
Sony dont have official international warranty so I have to pay to fix it.

I purchased the unit to feed a Harmon Kardon HKTS 15 speaker system. Fabulous sound. Great flexibility. The calibration mike is an impressive feature. Furniture movement for the Holidays, etc.

  The manufacturer publishes the output as 145 watts per channel at 6 ohms.
I intend on hooking a set on 80s model tower speakers and a new LG soundbar with Bluetooth sub to this. I do everything from my Xbox and am looking for something that can handle everything. Will this work?

  Thanks for your inquiry. Integrating a multi-channel receiver with a soundbar may be problematic. The receiver can power all the speakers in a surround set up, including a powered subwoofer. Not knowing the connection capabilities of your Xbox, a soundbar may not integrate with the receiver. If it does the soundbar output may not be in sync with the receiver output. You may want to discuss this set up with one of our product specialists.
Can you connect a Nintendo Wii audio/video cables. There are 3 cables from the Wii for this purpose (white, red, yellow)?

  Thanks for your inquiry. The STR-DH590 does not have a composite (yellow) video input. Does your Wii console have an HDMI output jack? If so then an HDMI cable between the Wii and Sony would work for audio and video, assuming your TV HDMI input is connected to the Monitor (TV) Out HDMI jack on the Sony.

Can the STR-DH590 soundfield selector be used to enhance standard analog stereo sources to play back in 5.1 surround with all appropriate speakers connected?

  Thanks for your inquiry. The STR-DH590 has selectable sound fields and a Multi Channel Stereo setting that outputs 2 channel to all connected speakers. Also includes an audio enhancer setting that reproduces the acoustics of selectable venues and Dolby Pro Logic II.
I intend to buy this and use it on BDV-E6100 speakers. How effective would that be?

  Thanks for your inquiry. The BDV-E6100 is a complete 5.1 Home Theater System with Blu-ray Disc / DVD. The attached speaker cables and plugs are not configured to be connected to a home theater receiver. Cutting off the plugs may make it difficult to maintain accurate polarity when connected to a receiver. It appears that the only way to connect the BDV to DH590 is via an HDMI cable in order to watch a DVD. The TV would have to be connected via HDMI from the HDMI Out on the DH590. It may be adaptable to work with the STR-DH590 but you would be bypassing the amps and processing on the BDV-6100.

  Thanks for your question. The Sony STR-DH590 is capable of playing only one source at a time. You could listen to an aux source or a Bluetooth stream and watch your TV at the same time, and listen to TV sound with the TV speakers, but if you select TV via an HDMI input you would no be able to listen to Bluetooth or aux input.

  Thanks for your question. The Sony STR-DH590 can only power one speaker per speaker output terminal. There is no provision to connect a pair exclusively for 2 channel listening at the same time the other 5 channels are connected. Connecting 2 pair of speakers to the front output terminals would exceed the capability of the amps and risk damaging the unit. Note that the unit has Selectable Sound Fields, allowing you to select 2 channel stereo mode playing only through the front left and right speakers. You could connect your preferred CD listening speakers to front left and right in place of the surround fronts.
