Wood transmits sound swiftly, suppresses unwanted vibrations, and, over time, its material stabilizes, allowing its tone to mature—deeper and richer. If that organic sound—which no artificial material can reproduce—could be recreated in an earphone, music would breathe more vividly into the human heart. Driven by that belief, JVC embarked on a journey to create the world's first diaphragm crafted from real wood.
The Journey To Creating WOOD Masterpiece
Wood is a challenging material—difficult to process, hard to maintain in consistent quality, and prone to warping with changes in temperature and humidity. Achieving precise acoustic performance required countless trials and advanced audio engineering. Yet, JVC remained steadfast in JVC’s pursuit of the unique qualities only wood can offer. In 2008, JVC’s dedication bore fruit with the development of wired earphones featuring Wood Diaphragms.
Following that, JVC kept refining materials and shapes to pursue the ideal sound. In 2025, JVC unveiled a new Hybrid WOOD Diaphragm, combining delicate rosewood fragments with wood-based pulp. It represents the pinnacle of JVC’s aspiration for the ideal tone: WOOD masterpiece.
