Focal has invested a lot in Utopia M and has excelled itself. Making the impossible possible, elevating sound excellence to a level never achieved before: this was the goal set by Focal's engineers who developed, among other things, a brand new ‘M'-profile 'W' sandwich cone.
Design and Performance
Handmade in Focal's French Workshops, all the Utopia M speaker drivers use high-end codes: a unique cone profile and a unique chassis. The design of the Utopia M chassis is a subtle mix of tradition, performance and elegance.

By choosing each speaker driver in the range based on your vehicle and your needs, you can build your own high-fidelity audiophile system. Tailored installation, ‘à la carte’, where the only limit is the creativity of the installers.
M'-profile 'W' sandwich cone
The new, patented, ‘M'-profile cone is the result of many years of research and Focal's expertise in materials and their geometry. The innovative ‘M’-profile, made from a single piece, means it is incredibly rigid and perfectly combines the three criteria essential for creating an “ideal” speaker driver: rigidity, lightness and damping. The result is an extremely linear frequency response, a low distortion rate, and better sound dispersion. Upon listening, this cone delivers striking realism and level of detail, that transports you into the heart of music.
TMD® surround
Originally developed for the Sopra line of high-fidelity loudspeakers, Focal's TMD® (Tuned Mass Damper) surround has a unique profile, designed to better control the effects of resonance and to drastically reduce the distortion associated with deformations of the cone. The speaker driver takes advantage of this patented technology by spreading better defined and very realistic midranges’ frequencies.
Progressive spider
The progressive spider used on all Focal's Utopia drivers is built around a progressive section that reproduces all the impact of the bass whilst optimizing the linearity, precision and dynamics of the sound.
6.5″ Woofer (Pair)
Designing a 6.5” woofer that perfectly combines extreme performance, high-end design and shallow depth is a real challenge. Focal's teams succeeded, by combining the best of their latest technologies: ‘M’-profile ‘W’ sandwich cone, TMD® surround, progressive spider and coupling it with a unique basket design, inspired by French architecture. The result is simple: excellence at all levels.
