Kicker’s 46CSC654 6-1/2" car coaxial speakers are designed for one simple purpose: to make upgrading from factory audio easy while delivering a noticeable jump in sound quality. Part of Kicker’s popular CS-series, these coaxial speakers focus on strong everyday performance and the kind of efficiency that works well even with basic factory radios, which played a large part in them grabbing our “Best Low-Power Car Coaxial Speakers” title. For drivers who want their music to sound clearer and more energetic without a complicated system overhaul, they represent one of the most practical upgrades available.
The biggest improvement most listeners notice right away is how much more alive music sounds compared to stock speakers. Factory speakers are often built with lightweight materials and minimal engineering, which can leave music sounding flat and lifeless. The 46CSC654 replaces those weak components with a more robust design that produces better sound across the board. The result is a fuller, more appealing listening experience, and it doesn’t matter your genre. Anything from heavy metal to hip hop to country will sound so much more lifelike.
A big reason these speakers perform so well is because of the materials that Kicker selected in their design process. The woofer uses a rigid polypropylene cone, which is lightweight but durable enough to stay controlled during playback. This helps keep midrange vocals and instruments clean while maintaining tight bass response. Supporting that cone is a UV-treated foam surround, designed to handle the heat, vibration, and temperature swings that speakers face inside car doors.
For high frequencies, Kicker uses a balanced-dome PEI tweeter, a material known for producing clear, consistent highs without becoming overly sharp or fatiguing during longer listening sessions. This tweeter design helps bring out the details in music while maintaining a smooth overall presentation.
Another standout feature is how easy these speakers are to power. With strong sensitivity and an efficient design, they can produce impressive volume and clarity even when connected directly to a factory head unit.
Installation is also refreshingly straightforward. The speakers feature a compact mounting depth and “zero-protrusion” tweeter design, which helps them fit into many factory speaker locations without interfering with original grilles. Combined with Kicker’s solid stamped-steel frame and heavy-duty motor structure, they’re built to deliver dependable performance for years of daily driving.
The Kicker 46CSC654 earns its spot by delivering exactly what many drivers want: a reliable, affordable speaker that dramatically improves factory sound while remaining simple to install and easy to power. For anyone looking to make their daily drive sound better without spending a ton, it’s a smart and satisfying upgrade.
The CS-series is available in a wide variety of sizes, too: 3-1/2”, 4”, 4x6”, 5-1/4”, 6-3/4”, 6x8”, 6x9”
Pros:
- Very good sound quality
- Easy to power
- Fits a wide range of vehicles
Cons:
- Bass can be a little thin at times
- Highs can get a tad “shrill” depending on music
- Polyester foam surrounds aren’t as durable as rubber

Lol. Sponsored by focal and kicker are we? Having a best speakers list without having morel, herts, or JL audio says it all. The morel elite carbon three ways will make that whole list look like a paper cone speaker from the ’60s! 9in mid in my door mm3 3.5in mid range ($899.99 for just the pair. More expensive than pretty much your whole list on their own) then tweeters of course to finish out the three-way system. Then the two-way elates in the rear…powered by 2 JL audio XD800/8V2 PER SIDE! On another level! Give morel and call and ask for KC tellem kye said you needed to hear a real speaker! 😜
People, i did car audio custom installs for 2 decades in Los Angeles area. entered professional car audio sound offs and even was a judge in SPL level tests. Best speakers are what your ears like to hear. dont go with what someone tells you. take couple of songs you know well and how they should sound. i advice, of course depends on person, maybe jazz or instrumental, rock, etc. you know how it sounds to your liking. then go shopping and listen to your songs and which set of speakers comes the closest. and ask if they have similar set up in a car. if so or we use to have sound rooms to test as mock up car. get an idea how they may sound in your car. what you like to hear, is the best speaker system for you. But,also choose an amp etc accordingly. thanks
