Customer Reviews for Yamaha RX-V6 7.2-Channel AV Receiver with 8K HDMI and MusicCast
After plugging in my Bluray, CD, MD, Roku, and the TV and placing the speakers, the last step was to "tune them to the room." My living room is small, and I feared the distance between the speakers would create trouble overlapping sounds. Following the online instruction and placing the tuning microphone, I played my first 5.1 DVD movie. What a theater experience I had. I could follow the sounds through my ears and track the voice as if they were in my small room.
One additional thought to add. This Yamaha receiver pairs well with the other components. On powering up, it automatically switches to the device I am using. Turning off my Sony TV or Blueray, the RX-V6A also switches OFF. Sweet.
Been using Onkyo receivers for the last 20 years. With how the last one died, I wanted something sturdy, dependable, high quality in every possible respect. Use mainly along with a Panasonic DP-UB820 and polk es50, es35, es20 speakers along with a Klipsch R121sw subwoofer. Musical taste is heavily progressive rock and jazz and classical. This receiver shines in every respect. And movies are unbelievable. Better experience than when I've been at the theater. Very clean sounding. This unit does it all effortlessly .
Bought this to replace RX-A2010 because I wanted better connectivity. The A2010 performed flawlessly but was lacking in that regard. Was concerned that the RX-V6A was a step down in quality but have not noticed any drop off. Was convinced by many reviews of the product and so far completely agree this is an excellent home theater receiver.
I have always loved the Yamaha receivers since the first analog one I bought. I use the receivers for everything from watching TV to movies to Playstation 2 thru 4 so far. I upgraded to this receiver about a year ago and have had troubles with the satellite TV. It flickers at times and takes a bit to get it to stop. I've tried different settings and can't get it to stop. I update regularly, but it still does it from time to time. Has anyone else had this problem? Or have a fix for it?
Love this feature rich AV receiver. Did a hw upgrade for the HDMI fix and since everything operates flawlessly. Frankly it packs a punch in feature set and will likely use a fraction of it but eager to explore. Great value too compared to comparably featured competitors.
My former YAMAHA Unit was great and 10 years old; it ran well until it started to die. So, I again chose a YAMAHA of equivalent capability. The Unit exceeds my old one in capability and versatility, but--VERY POOR Manual; VERY POOR MENU SYSTEM and hard to set up. One sentence per page manual; no index and sections do not relate. It is like a kid put it together and then translated to badly. Hard to ge my Logitec Universal remote to control it. It is very functional once you get past all the poor documentation--thankfully the YAMAGA HELP LINE was VERY GOOD. I would buy it again, but if you are not technically oriented, better have someone who can set it up!
Previously had an RX-V665 that I've been using for some 15 years (give or take). After getting a 4k TV, it was time to finally upgrade the receiver.
So far, the receiver has exceeded expectations on most fronts. I could immediately hear a difference in the sound on some of my favorite games, even though the speakers and the speaker wires were not replaced.
Seeing the difference in the 4k video is amazing as well. I've had to re-learn a couple games because of the HDR actually being different colors (an orange to more red for example) and how to spot things.
General setup was simple to do otherwise and the familiar remote layout had me back into my gaming in no time.
So far only two 'issues' have been experienced. The first has been with the HDMI pulsing to power on. There were a few instances where turning on the PS5 powered up both the Receiver and the TV, but almost every instance has just powered on the TV. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere I've overlooked, but this isn't a huge problem since I have the remote close enough.
The second item so far is watching youtube videos from the PS5. The sound sync appears to be different where I get an echo effect as the receiver is a different timing than the tv speakers. Also not a huge issue, I just turn the volume off for the TV so the echo is gone. I believe this is also another setting somewhere, but haven't been able to fully delve into it.
Love / Hate Sounds Great - HDMI pass-through issues.
HDMI passthrough issues out of the blue,..have forced 2 factory resets do far. I believe disabling ARC and CEC have corrected the issue but feature is lost.
On screen menu very slow response.time.
On screen display of program sound settings shows randomly.
This was the next logical step in my home entertainment experience. My fourth Yamaha surround sound receiver, and it fills two very important upgrades; 4k HDMI switching, and built-in phono preamp. I'm still exploring the many new features in the RX-V6A, but the initial setup was fast and intuitive to get me past square one quickly.
I wish I could've had more experience with this receiver. I had an issue with the YPAO. It kept erroring out when I was trying optimize the speaker settings. When I contacted Yamaha support, they simply advised me to take the unit to an authorized service center. With support like that, I decided to return the receiver for a refund instead.
Overall very good, product, but some functions not working
Bought it to pair with new Denon turntable, phono jack only emitted loud distortion. Music cast wouldn't set up despite repeated attempts. Great sound and am overall pleased, just disappointed that not all functions are working.
I had a Denon home theater before this one. I thought I was getting good customer service there and why I was wrong. Yamaha knows exactly how to guide you to the best time possible from your system. Their customer service is amazing and they actually tell you what settings you need on subwoofers and speakers. I would buy this over and over again.
After buying two new front speakers for stereo listening (Wharfdale 4.4) I realized I didn't have enough power (75W per channel Denon) to make them really "sing". AVR's with 200+ watts per channel were WAY out of my price range. By going to a 7 channel AVR with 100 watts or more I could bi-amp those two front channels and still have a 5 channel surround system. Yamaha RX V6A has 100 watts and by bi-amping I could get more power. I was hoping for more though, it doesn't make a huge diff. Still happy with it though.
Used everyday for tv watching ,movies ,spotify, radio ,net radio , This unit kicks butt and sounds fantastic ,awesome bass and the mutipoint ypao sets it up just nice although I change speakers to small and crossover to 80hz . Heaps of sound adjustments if required but blends well with my athena bookshelf speakers and jbl sub
The RX-V6A replaced my 17 year old Yamaha RX-V2400 120W 7.1 receiver, I was truly impressed with the RX-V2400 receiver that is why I purchased the RX-V6A receiver. The reason I had to replace the receiver was my projector in my home theater system went out which was also 17 years old. The technological advances in the industry required I convert to a digital system (HDMI) which the highest level on the RX-V2400 was component video (HD 1080P). I noticed that several amenities were left off the RX-V6A which I thought was at the same level as the RX-V2400. The Wattage was lower 100W vs 120W, the power supply plugs with switch removed, Bi-Amp support without removing speaker, Speaker B removed, one Zone removed, banana plug spacing changed so standard +/- plugs connectors won't work (had to break them apart), No remote-control programming and No printed owner's manual (this really makes getting familiar with the product more difficult). I guess it was necessary to eliminate these niceties to keep the price about the same as I paid in 2004. After using the unit I do noticed better fidelity in the sound, I like the clean and natural sound of this receiver. Also I can hear more sound separation and movement than the previous receiver. I appreciate assigning dedicated buttons on the remote for USB, NET, BLUETOOTH, etc… One area I was worried about was the ability to listen to a separate sound source while looking at TV was preserved. It took about a week or more to get familiar with the new receiver although I was familiar with Yamaha's operation. Overall, I didn't see the type of improvements I would expect, the sound is good to great but the receiver's capabilities and functionality have been diminished.
This receiver packs a lot of features into a quality product that is affordable. This is my first new receiver in over 10 years and I love the streaming and network control features. For a medium size room this has plenty of power and lots of speaker options. The sound can be shaped from pure direct option where the original has surround sound (like ATMOS) or it can be enhanced with a light or heavy touch as appropriate for the type of recording and scene you want to set. The only problem experienced is with the HDMI interface to the tv. After reinitializing the tv (lg-cx) the popping has stopped but there appears to be unresolved issues when using certain HDMI settings.
I liked the clean and natural sound of this receiver. Also sound bubble created while watching a movie is awesome. I mean i can hear better sound movement compared to my older 2017 receiver. However after finding 2.1 hdmi bug in Nov 2020, no-one is commenting if this will be fixed via firmware upgrade while wirting this review in Feb 2021.Thats not being transparent and holding customers.
Just received my Yamaha RX-V6A today. Setup was very easy after hooking up everything it went straight to a firmware update took about 20 minutes. I'm still running though this very nice looking AVR! I have it setup in a 5.1 set for now will do 7.2 very soon. Now for as how it performs, Flawlessly no issues whatsoever it is a very detailed sounding AVR. The new Display is welcomed, very easy to read from my sitting area of 10ft away from my audio rack. You can turn off the front display. World Wide Stereo shipped it out and received it without any issues. Customer service was outstanding, Customer service specialist, Ira Segall, answered all my questions plus was very Professional and courteous. I do recommend World Wide Stereo and of course Yamaha!
The RX V6A is replacing my 10 year old receiver, and I am happy I decided to go back to a Yamaha unit. I am just blown away with the quality and look of this unit.

Thanks for your question. The preliminary specifications provided by Yamaha for this new model do not specify HDMI 2.1. However, all 7 HDMI inputs are specified to support 4K/60Hz and HDMI inputs 1, 2, and 3 support 8K/60Hz.
