DTS:X immersive audio formatting places sound where it would naturally occur in space, creating life-like, multi-dimensional audio. The included spatial remapping engine of DTS Neural:X™ offers improved immersion and heightened realism in all your favorite movies.

This unique Yamaha proprietary sound field creation technology was created by combining measured sound field data with digital signal processing. Yamaha collected sound field data from famous concert halls and music clubs around the world, utilizing its wealth of experience in the fields of concert hall design, public address, and mixing. By digitizing this vast trove of information and incorporating it into dedicated LSI devices, it effectively reproduces the spaces of concert halls and music clubs in your home. Immerse yourself in the astounding realism of your movies, and enter a world of profound theater sound.

When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

The slew rate measures how quickly an amplifier can respond to a rapid change of input level, which contributes to delivering a precise signal transmission and is especially effective with high-resolution audio signals. This newly designed circuit achieves both a high slew rate and stable signal transmission, allowing it to handle each audio signal with precision and accuracy.

The Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the chassis unit base. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors, and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers — providing dynamic sound and focused accurate reproduction.

HDR (high dynamic range) video provides incredible contrast, smooth tone, and rich, bright colors—giving you full, high-definition enjoyment with an exceptionally realistic and natural picture quality.

HDR10+ greatly improves the dynamic range (the ratio of light to dark) of video content on a scene-by-scene (or even frame-by-frame) basis. Also, using frame-by-frame metadata, it improves the scene characteristics between bright and dark so that important detail can remain. This enables displays to reproduce images more realistically, adhering to the creator's intent.

Supports end-to-end 8K/4K resolutions and higher refresh rate solutions with a single upgraded cable for seamless integration within the HDMI eco-system. 8K delivers a super-immersive viewing experience with 2x the horizontal and vertical resolution of 4K, and 4 times as many pixels; and combined with 60Hz refresh rate enables smooth and sharp viewing of content with high-speed action. 4K120 enables ultra-fast motion UHD images to be crisp and razor-sharp; allowing sports, action movies, high-performance gaming, and VR to benefit significantly. It also supports Dolby Vision™ and Hybrid Log-Gamma.

Enhanced media and gaming features ensure an added level of smooth and seamless motion and transitions for gaming, movies, and video. They include: Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which enables the ideal latency setting to automatically be set allowing for smooth, lag-free, and uninterrupted viewing and interactivity; Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) reduces or eliminates lag, stutter, and frame tearing for more fluid and detailed gameplay; Quick Media Switching (QMS) for movies and video eliminates the delay that can result in blank frames before content is displayed; and Quick Frame Transport (QFT), which reduces latency for smoother, no-lag gaming and real-time interactive virtual reality.

YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) analyzes your room acoustics, measures speaker characteristics, and adjusts unwanted reflected sounds to optimize every channel of your home theater. R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) analyzes room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound at any of eight listening positions.

Simply by placing the supplied microphone at your listening position and switching YPAO on, the system is automatically calibrated ensuring your home theater room has the best sound.

Combine this AV receiver with the MusicCast 50 or two MusicCast 20 wireless streaming speakers and enjoy MusicCast Surround, creating a 5.1-channel home theater with wireless surround sound. What’s more, you get a stunningly realistic sound with a clean, clutter-free setup. Easily turn your living room into a home theater where you can fully enjoy movies and music.

Yamaha AV receivers are crafted with meticulous design and craftsmanship to produce a work of visual and acoustic art. The immaculate chassis construction further solidifies the alignment of stability in performance. It offers a beautiful form that deepens the AVENTAGE uniqueness and continues to further enhance key acoustic authority. Inspired by tradition and incorporating fresh new design principles, the new look of AVENTAGE exhibits engineering at its most innovative and awe-inspiring best.

There are four SCENE buttons. You can preset them for different inputs, as well as a sound field program, Music Enhancer, HDMI output, and more. The inputs can be set to specific sources, such as an FM or Internet radio station, a station on a streaming service, a USB device, or a song on a PC or NAS (network). Once you have set the buttons, simply press one on the main unit or the remote control to power on the receiver and hear your desired music. The buttons can be re-set at any time.

Ya, Great buy!
I use this system in only 5.1 and I don't regret it one bit. It's capable of 7.2. I also run it on Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The receiver is capable of so much, with many features.

Good value for money, but not perfect
Yamaha generally makes A/V receivers (I've owned several) that deliver great sound and video. The RX-A2A is no exception, with some caveats. Residing in Yamaha's audiophile Aventage model line one would expect that its back panel connections should support high-end gear. With all video inputs limited to HDMI connections, there is a lot of open space on the back of this receiver. So why did Yamaha cram all of the ridiculously small speaker connections so close together? If you have large gauge speaker cables you're going to have trouble unless they terminate with a banana connector. Spade connectors, or thick bare wire? Forget it. I had to replace my speaker cables in order to hook them up.

Set-up is reasonably easy as it is with most Yamaha gear and their room equalization procedure is as simple as it gets. The firmware however leaves a bit to be desired. I've twice had the receiver fail to deliver audio or video. Once was after a power outage and the other was weirdly when powering up the receiver via one of its Scene buttons, which is user-assignable to an input and program. The solution to the first required unplugging the unit entirely and the second just powering it off and on. I've also had the RX-A2A change inputs on its own several times, switching from satellite TV (Scene 1) to "TV," which on my receiver has nothing plugged into it. Perhaps a future firmware update will address some of these issues.

At about $800, the RX-A2A provides plenty of bang for the buck and is supposedly ready via update for the future 8K video standard. If you can live with its quirks it should not disappoint.

Very impressed. Can't rave enough about it!!!
I moved up from a Denon Avr 1600 to this and what a difference. Running a Bose acustimass 6 V series with a Klipsch 12 inch sub and it sounds fantastic. The app for the media cast works great and makes choosing which program to run simple from across the room. I initially had a concern about the small display but with the app it's simple. Another appreciated difference was having the video at 120hz vs the 60hz of the Denon. Much simpler to set up out of the box as well. This is my third Yamaha receiver the first one being 40 years old and still working today.

Yamaha's Best So Far!
Purchased the RX-A2A in late November of 2021 to complement purchase of new Sony 55" X950H and Sony UBP-X800M2 4K disc player. I wanted a receiver that had Dolby Atmos and that would also pass Dolby Vision and HDR. The RX-A2A was replacing a 10 year old Yamaha RX-A820 which is in perfect condition and very much admired. The RX-A2A is my 5th Yamaha A/V receiver. Yes, I am a Yamaha devotee to say the least but Yamaha A/V equipment is just simply the best and I've owned many different brands. I was some what on the fence about the redesign of this receiver but now I do like the redesign. The audio and video quality is the best I've ever heard and seen. The Dolby Atmos processing is just amazing, thanks to Yamaha's YPAO multi point calibration. I can't say enough good things about this receiver and Yamaha.

Another terrific Yamaha AV receiver
I bought this to replace a Yamaha RX-A860, as the A860 had Music Cast but didn't support wireless surround speakers. I needed to have a change in my room setup, and saw this terrific receiver. Simple connection to my network, seamless connection to the Music Cast 20 speakers, simple to setup. Yamaha has great products, superior quality, and outstanding sound and presence. Drives my B&W speakers with no problems. The 4K upscaling works well with my LG 55EF9500.

Big upgrade from my previous RX-A700
Since getting an LG 50" 4K TV, it was time to upgrade my older RX-A700. I initially ordered an RX-A780 from Crutchfield, only to be told it was discontinued. Luckily my rep called me and informed me this was the replacement, and I could get it for the price of the 780. I decided to go ahead and get this instead. I'm glad I did. Seeing the pictures and watching videos on YouTube, I wasn't sure what to think of the looks. After getting it, I love how minimalist the design is. While it has a smaller display, it is not overly bright or distracting, and is in fact very pleasing to view. Setting things up was very easy, as the menu system is very intuitive. When connecting it to the Music Cast app, I didn't at first notice the Connect below the input knob, but figured it out after watching a YouTube video from Andrew Robinson on the A6A. Just a heads up for those any of the newer units, wanting to use the app.
The remote that is included works just fine for me, so I use it most of the time. Speaking of which, it is longer than the remote I had for the 700, and a little bit heavier. Which in my opinion is a very good thing. It has a textured back, making holding it easy, the buttons are spaced far enough apart and very legible. My one minor gripe is that the buttons are not backlit, but being this is the entry level Aventage, it's to be expected. When it comes to the amp section, you have options on how to set it up including a 5.1.2 Atmos configuration. If you are familiar with Yamaha's sound, no explanation is needed. Very rich and full bodied.
Onto the issue some are having with HDMI 2.1 and gaming. I use a standard PS4, and when I used input 2, the screen would be black and the audio would play through, then switching inputs would solve the issue. So I unplugged the HMDI cable and used input 4 and it worked perfectly. A head's up for anyone who plans on gaming. My only minor gripe is the fact I had to set the sub level to +3db because it was a little low at 0db.

will this unit have enough power for my 4ohm kef suround speakers ?
A shopper on Feb 3, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The RX-A2A has sufficient rated power to drive most medium to high efficiency speakers. Note regarding Speaker Requirements: Use following speakers.
-The front speakers: with an impedance of at least 4 ohm
-Other speakers: with an impedance of at least 6 ohm
Use of 4 ohm surround speakers is not recommended.
