DTS:X immersive audio formatting places sound where it would naturally occur in space, creating life-like, multi-dimensional audio. The included spatial remapping engine of DTS Neural:X™ offers improved immersion and heightened realism in all your favorite movies.

This unique Yamaha proprietary sound field creation technology was created by combining measured sound field data with digital signal processing. Yamaha collected sound field data from famous concert halls and music clubs around the world, utilizing its wealth of experience in the fields of concert hall design, public address, and mixing. By digitizing this vast trove of information and incorporating it into dedicated LSI devices, it effectively reproduces the spaces of concert halls and music clubs in your home. Immerse yourself in the astounding realism of your movies, and enter a world of profound theater sound.

When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

The slew rate measures how quickly an amplifier can respond to a rapid change of input level, which contributes to delivering a precise signal transmission and is especially effective with high-resolution audio signals. This newly designed circuit achieves both a high slew rate and stable signal transmission, allowing it to handle each audio signal with precision and accuracy.

The Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the chassis unit base. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors, and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers — providing dynamic sound and focused accurate reproduction.

HDR (high dynamic range) video provides incredible contrast, smooth tone, and rich, bright colors—giving you full, high-definition enjoyment with an exceptionally realistic and natural picture quality.

HDR10+ greatly improves the dynamic range (the ratio of light to dark) of video content on a scene-by-scene (or even frame-by-frame) basis. Also, using frame-by-frame metadata, it improves the scene characteristics between bright and dark so that important detail can remain. This enables displays to reproduce images more realistically, adhering to the creator's intent.

Supports end-to-end 8K/4K resolutions and higher refresh rate solutions with a single upgraded cable for seamless integration within the HDMI eco-system. 8K delivers a super-immersive viewing experience with 2x the horizontal and vertical resolution of 4K, and 4 times as many pixels; and combined with 60Hz refresh rate enables smooth and sharp viewing of content with high-speed action. 4K120 enables ultra-fast motion UHD images to be crisp and razor-sharp; allowing sports, action movies, high-performance gaming, and VR to benefit significantly. It also supports Dolby Vision™ and Hybrid Log-Gamma.

Enhanced media and gaming features ensure an added level of smooth and seamless motion and transitions for gaming, movies, and video. They include: Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which enables the ideal latency setting to automatically be set allowing for smooth, lag-free, and uninterrupted viewing and interactivity; Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) reduces or eliminates lag, stutter, and frame tearing for more fluid and detailed gameplay; Quick Media Switching (QMS) for movies and video eliminates the delay that can result in blank frames before content is displayed; and Quick Frame Transport (QFT), which reduces latency for smoother, no-lag gaming and real-time interactive virtual reality.

YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) analyzes your room acoustics, measures speaker characteristics, and adjusts unwanted reflected sounds to optimize every channel of your home theater. R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) analyzes room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound at any of eight listening positions.

Simply by placing the supplied microphone at your listening position and switching YPAO on, the system is automatically calibrated ensuring your home theater room has the best sound.

Combine this AV receiver with the MusicCast 50 or two MusicCast 20 wireless streaming speakers and enjoy MusicCast Surround, creating a 5.1-channel home theater with wireless surround sound. What’s more, you get a stunningly realistic sound with a clean, clutter-free setup. Easily turn your living room into a home theater where you can fully enjoy movies and music.

Yamaha AV receivers are crafted with meticulous design and craftsmanship to produce a work of visual and acoustic art. The immaculate chassis construction further solidifies the alignment of stability in performance. It offers a beautiful form that deepens the AVENTAGE uniqueness and continues to further enhance key acoustic authority. Inspired by tradition and incorporating fresh new design principles, the new look of AVENTAGE exhibits engineering at its most innovative and awe-inspiring best.

There are four SCENE buttons. You can preset them for different inputs, as well as a sound field program, Music Enhancer, HDMI output, and more. The inputs can be set to specific sources, such as an FM or Internet radio station, a station on a streaming service, a USB device, or a song on a PC or NAS (network). Once you have set the buttons, simply press one on the main unit or the remote control to power on the receiver and hear your desired music. The buttons can be re-set at any time.

Great sound, and a ton of features
ARC is an issue at TV power up. Have to use the "Scene" feature to have sound stay on. Extra step and can't make initial power on "idiot proof"

Nice but a little quirky
The microphone based autoconf sets up nonsensical values (speaker distances and levels seem to be way off). Setup is hard work, you pretty much need the manual next to you to know what the various settings mean, e.g.: to his day I am unsure if I have the amplifier setup correct. some in-context help and hints would be nice. E-arc interaction is mostly seamless with my modern Samsung TV, except when it is not. Sometimes the AVR gets randomly turned off, and the tv reverts to using its built in speakers. it is tall, so make sure to measure shelf space before deciding on furniture for it.

Upgraded awesomeness
Overall, an exceptional upgrade to my old Yamaha receiver. I needed to upgrade the receiver when I bought my Xbox Series X and a 8k@60hz / 4k@120hz TV. My only quip: every now and then, when I power up my Xbox and arc3 turns on the receiver and the TV, I get "TV fuzz" like in the days of the old CRT TVs. All of my HDMI cables are UHD rated and the "TV fuzz" goes away by powering the receiver down and then powering it back up. I'm extremely satisfied with the overall quality of the receiver build, look and sound. It performs incredibly well! SUPER LOUD but more importantly, very crisp sound!

My New Updated Yamaha
I purchased my very first Yamaha receiver in 2008 and to be honest I was reluctant to upgrade, but RX-A2A sounds a lot better. My biggest issue with my purchase is the crackling sound I get from my speakers using my HDMI 2.1. I don't get that sound or delay when I used the optical cable. But overall this is a great receiver.

Ya, Great buy!
I use this system in only 5.1 and I don't regret it one bit. It's capable of 7.2. I also run it on Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The receiver is capable of so much, with many features.

Good value for money, but not perfect
Yamaha generally makes A/V receivers (I've owned several) that deliver great sound and video. The RX-A2A is no exception, with some caveats. Residing in Yamaha's audiophile Aventage model line one would expect that its back panel connections should support high-end gear. With all video inputs limited to HDMI connections, there is a lot of open space on the back of this receiver. So why did Yamaha cram all of the ridiculously small speaker connections so close together? If you have large gauge speaker cables you're going to have trouble unless they terminate with a banana connector. Spade connectors, or thick bare wire? Forget it. I had to replace my speaker cables in order to hook them up.

Set-up is reasonably easy as it is with most Yamaha gear and their room equalization procedure is as simple as it gets. The firmware however leaves a bit to be desired. I've twice had the receiver fail to deliver audio or video. Once was after a power outage and the other was weirdly when powering up the receiver via one of its Scene buttons, which is user-assignable to an input and program. The solution to the first required unplugging the unit entirely and the second just powering it off and on. I've also had the RX-A2A change inputs on its own several times, switching from satellite TV (Scene 1) to "TV," which on my receiver has nothing plugged into it. Perhaps a future firmware update will address some of these issues.

At about $800, the RX-A2A provides plenty of bang for the buck and is supposedly ready via update for the future 8K video standard. If you can live with its quirks it should not disappoint.

will this unit have enough power for my 4ohm kef suround speakers ?
A shopper on Feb 3, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The RX-A2A has sufficient rated power to drive most medium to high efficiency speakers. Note regarding Speaker Requirements: Use following speakers.
-The front speakers: with an impedance of at least 4 ohm
-Other speakers: with an impedance of at least 6 ohm
Use of 4 ohm surround speakers is not recommended.
Will this support a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup?
Kevin C on Jul 17, 2022
Thanks for your inquiry. The RX-A2A has Dolby Atmos processing for a 5.2.2 configuration.
