When they came, I was impressed - certainly better than what I was used to, but still not totally blowing me away. For grins, I went and got the Bose 700s...after all, if I'm going to drop 300 beans on a pair of headphones (that I will hopefully listen to for the next 10 years) I want to be certain I made the right choice.
I've gotta say, the 700s hit the mark for me. They were more comfortable (I wear these all day for work) and the were noticeably better performers. Stellar noice canceling, better clarity, richer tones, and a wide open soundstage. Just what you would expect for $300+ headphones. I make out more of the individual instruments than I could on the Sony's which really seemed to fall flat to my ears.
Sure the Sony's have a longer battery life, but honestly, I'm going to charge these every night anyway. When I had both of these sitting side-by-side, I kept picking up the 700s first to listen to. They were just that much more EXCITING to listen to.
Am I knocking the Sony's? Hell no, they're solid headphones. But if I'm going to spend this much on a set of cans, I'm wanting to put something on that makes me want to listen till the end of the song before I take them off...and maybe even squeeze in one more track for good measure. They're just that good. I'm going Bose.
