Pro-Ject VC-E Compact Record Cleaning Machine

I loved it for more than a year. it does a great job cleaning records.

In response to other reviews -- it does fine with warped records. I mean, if it doesn't handle your warped record, perhaps that record is trash anyway. For a small amount of warp, the vacuum will usually suck it into place on the second revolution. If not, a little finger pressure under the edge of the record as it spins gets the vacuum in contact with the surface. That really isn't a problem.

I'd give this a four-star review if not for the first problem I encountered -- replacement parts and fluid are EXPENSIVE. When it came time to replace the pads on my vacuum arm, the only place I could find them at that time was on eBay. They were cheap and the adhesive didn't work well. I had to use superglue. The second time, I found actual pro-ject strips but they still didn't stick very well.

I'd give it a five-star review if not for the second problem I encountered. Afrer about 18 months, it started sounding "like a jet-engine taking off." I use that simile because others have used it in reviews and forums elsewhere.

I'm waiting to hear back from Pro-Ject if it's still under warranty -- but contrary to their recommendations, which I didn't see, and didn't really expect to need -- I didn't save the original packaging, and I didn't register my product. That may turn out to be an expensive lesson to learn. The jury is out on whether I'll buy another one if I have to replace it.

It does do a fantastic job of cleaning records, though.

The machine seems to be well built. It just doesn't clean nearly as well as all the hype. The records must be perfectly flat, or the cleaner hardly works at all.

The machine is well built, but really doesn't do a very good job of cleaning or drying records. If the records have even the slightest bit of warping, the machine just won't dry them.
