Product Information

The Best Turntable Classic with Carbon Tonearm and DC Power Supply!

The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the Hi-Fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford.

Highlights

  • 8.6” carbon tonearm
  • Increased platter size with more weight
  • Precision belt drive with synchronous motor
  • New DC power supply with ultra-precision frequency DC-driven AC generator (like Speed Box) for ultimate speed stability.
  • New TPE motor suspension
  • Felt mat
  • Magnetic cartridge from Ortofon 2M Red

The new DEBUT Carbon DC was designed to set new standards in this category for the coming decade – perfectly timed as analogue today is again a respected source, while the demand for good turntables is growing again!

The most obvious improvement is the inclusion of a CARBON TUBE for the tonearm, which increases stiffness and decreases unwanted resonance.

This material normally is extensively used in high-end tonearms, but – because of cost reasons – was never used in products at lower price levels. Together with other improvements like an increase in platter size and weight to realize even smoother rotation, the overall sound quality is greatly improved. The approved belt drive design offers low noise AC motor with effective motor decoupling (utilizing TPE-damping) and ultra-precision frequency DC-driven AC generator (like Speed Box) for ultimate speed stability without unwanted vibration.

The Debut Carbon Esprit USB Turntable comes with Ortofon's 2M Red phono cartridge. The 2M Red Series features an improved engine, which provides an increased output of 5.5mV and a tipped Elliptical diamond and split pole pins with a copper wire.

A Modern Vision with a Classic Design

Emerging along with the resurgence of vinyl's popularity, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC Turntable with Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge is a simple, elegant turntable designed for music-lovers and vinyl aficionados alike. With a minimalist design, this turntable forgoes high-tech features, and instead focuses on creating a durable, high-quality product that vinyl-lovers will treasure for years to come.

Vinyl is a delicate medium that requires a great deal of care and maintenance. Because of this, this record player is designed to enhance the sound of your records, so you get the most out of your vintage records. Ideal for seasoned vinyl enthusiasts or those who are just developing an interest in the medium, this LP player offers ultimate versatility in a sleek, streamlined package.

Specially-Designed Tonearm for Enhanced Audio

Mass-produced vinyl turntables in decades past were designed with cost-effective parts and mechanics. As a result, the quality of some features suffered because of the expensive cost. One victim of this was high-end tonearms. Made from a carbon tube, this 8.6-in carbon tonearm is setting a new standard in the turntable industry as its increased stiffness decreases unwanted resonance and vibrations that can compromise the quality of the audio.

The modern design, combined with an increased platter size and Ortofon 2M Red record stylus, drastically improves the sound quality, especially in vintage records. This moving magnet cartridge offers superior channel balance for enhanced stereo sound. Although a tonearm like this was once too expensive for standard turntables, this modern vision is produced for optimal audio quality and exceptional versatility, giving you exceptional sound from both your vintage records and brand-new vinyl.

Cutting-Edge Mechanics for Smooth Operation

This record player is designed with a precision belt drive with synchronous AC motor, which lowers the noise and vibrations that come from the motor, ensuring the sound of your records is not compromised by the mechanical nature of the turntable. The suspended motor decoupling design utilizes TPE-damping effects and is designed with an ultra-precision-frequency DC-driven AC generator, allowing you to increase the volume and play at any speed without fear of added vibration in the motor. This manual, two-speed motor is designed for use with 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records, so you can listen to your favorite albums and singles with the click of a switch. From vintage records to new vinyl, this turntable can play it all with enhanced quality.

Sleek, Sophisticated Aesthetic

With a simple, streamlined design, this turntable includes everything you need to enjoy your vinyl with enhanced sound quality. Rather than spending more on features you do not need, this record player offers top-of-the-line hardware for basic functions, so you can hear your vinyl the way it's supposed to be heard. The sleek, minimalist design is sure to become the focal point of your living room or media room. With four grips on the base, this turntable is designed for added stability.

Excellent "Budget" Turntable
I'd been using an entry-level fully automated Audio Technica turntable for about two years. Mostly, I was just enjoying the culture of the vinyl experience, because the turntable frankly didn't have much to offer. If that turntable had been the pinnacle of the vinyl experience, there would have been no contest in the analog vs digital discussion. I knew I'd been missing out on something, but didn't have $5,000 to drop on a Thorens table.

So I started to do a little research. In the end I figured I'd just call World Wide Stereo and see if they could give me any guidance. I'd called them in the past for some technical support (ashamed to admit it was for a product which I did not buy from them) and they were very helpful and considerate. This time was no different. Shout-out to the rep Andrew who went way above and beyond in explaining to me what made a turntable a good one and what the best product would be for my budget (~$500). Ultimately the discussion went toward a Rega and this Pro-Ject, and obviously I chose the Pro-Ject.

I had no idea what I'd been missing out on. The last time I'd experienced such a remarkable improvement in sound quality was when I'd upgraded from a mid-range Yamaha AVR to a Marantz. From the first seconds after I laid the first vinyl on my Debut Carbon, I was completely impressed. I immediately “got” the vinyl craze. It wasn’t just the culture, but the sound of vinyl (when played with an adequate turntable) truly was such a different and inviting experience. The level of detail and the very broad soundstage are the key points of improvement over my entry-level one. I have a modest collection of hi-res digital, and I can say that the Debut Carbon plays the music with roughly the same, if not greater, clarity. (I do have one album in both hi-res and vinyl, for comparison.) The only “drawback” to this turntable, if you can even consider it one, is that the bass is decidedly laid back. This table focuses on clarity and an enormously broad soundstage.

Also, If you’re into headphones (I have a HifiMan amp and some HifiMan 400i headphones), they’ll LOVE this turntable. I actually prefer listening to the turntable + headphones combo over listening on my loudspeakers.

Being an enthusiast on a budget, I can’t recommend the Debut Carbon enough. If you’re on the fence, get it. You will be very happy.

Other equipment: Marantz SR7011, SVS Prime 9.2 loudspeakers (two towers, PC-2000 and PB-2000 subs), Yamaha BD-S681, Panamax MR5100, AC Infinity T9, HifiMan EF2C, HifiMan 400i
