Built for accurate, consistent sound, the Ortofon 2M Red HiFi Phono Cartridge with Elliptical Diamond Stylus is the ideal upgrade for your record player. This turntable stylus features a split pole pin design, which offers a flat frequency response. As a result, the audio playback from the vinyl record is as accurate and warm as possible. The mounting cartridge is compatible with virtually any modern record player, and the weight and size are designed for versatile audio playback on a wide variety of tone arms. Made for precision and convenience, this record needle also features an improved engine, which offers increased output of 5.5 mV. Finally, the tipped Elliptical diamond pin record needle design is similar to the turntable stylus used to cut records, allowing the needle to sit deeper in the record groove for a more accurate sound.

2M HiFi Phono Cartridge With Elliptical Diamond Stylus

The 2M Series of cartridges is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Ortofon's philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound.

The name 2M was selected from several ideas. Ortofon wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember, and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet. 

The 2M series of cartridges features Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.  

We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

Love it
I bought the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge to replace the stock cartridge on my AT-LP120 turntable.

Setting it up with alignment and tracking force did take some detailed and fairly intensive effort, but that would be the case with any new cartridge. The Ortofon package came with clear and concise specifications / instructions.

Upon setup completion, it sounded great from the first play. I read online about some people experiencing a "breaking in" period of many hours where the 2M sounded subpar, but I have not experienced that at all. If the sound gets better over some time, I'll be amazed.

Ultimately, very happy with my purchase. List price on World Wide Stereo was similar to most other shops but final price was a bit less expensive after their available discounts. Shipping was free and on time.

Great sound, great value
I bought this for a friend with a nice Denon Turntable. The original Ortofon cartridge was worn out. This required going with the universal headshell and a bit of adjustments but once it was done it was very good. He is a classical music composer as well as an aficionado and he was amazed at the sound we got from his system which he plays everyday. His Deutsche Grammophon vinyl of his favorites had dynamics he had never heard with the stock cartridge setup as well as he was hearing high end details he was actually unfamiliar with on his own records. He was expecting to spend a lot more for this kind of quality. It was very satisfying to see him so happy.

Good compromise between quality and price.
Bought this to upgrade the cartridge that came on the Denon 300F turntable. Have read, seen, heard nothing but good things about this cartridge. So far, very pleased, without having to take a second mortgage.

I have a 1962 Motorola 3 channel stereo console refitted with an AudioTechnika magnetic cartridge. What is the distance between the screws to attach the Ortofon cartridge?

  Thanks for your inquiry. The Ortofon 2M Red has on center mounting holes. Note that the Ortofons all mount from the top. The bolts go down through the top of the headshell and screw into the cartridge body. Compatibility with vintage changers is not always a given. Vintage tonearms hay not have an adjustable counterweight to accurately set the vertical tracking force to the 2 to 3 grams range.
Hi, I have in my old SL1200 MK2 (runs perfectly...) an EPS270C cartridge...my idea is upgraded this one...the question about this is a really different quality than mine?... or I will take your suggestions to buy my new cartridge...please ....Thank you. Pablo.
