Customer Reviews for JBL Quantum Stream Dual-Pattern USB Microphone for Streaming, Recording, and Gaming
Pros: The design is very nice and sturday. We love that the cord is nice and long since we don't get that with many other products these days. The dictation works very well. Even when it is placed a little ways away from the mouth, it still picks up very well. On Zoom, no one complained about being able to hear. The sound came across very clearly. We also love that you can plug your headphones in directly to the speaker. It seems tro be very good at picking up speach, even if my speach isn't very clear.
Cons: The software didn't always work very well on the computer. Meaning, sometimes we could open the software, and you couldn't read any of the buttons. You will be able to see this in one of our photos. Another con is that it picks up voices even from FAR away. That could be a pro as well, but when you are trying to dictate, that can get pretty annoying.
Other than those couple of things, the microphone works very well. We love all of the features it comes with, and it even worked really well with 2 people who are blind. Because of the 2 cons, though, that's why we rated it 4 stars.
Really, my only complaint I had was I had to buy an adapter to connect it to my Macbook. I couldn't find anywhere in the paperwork or on the box where it indicated an adapter might be necessary. So I was a little bummed when I go to hook it all up, only to find out I needed to go back to the store to buy one. For the money, this is a really good investment.
I typically enjoy the build quality of JBL products - not much different here, it is solid (won't tip over easy) - with a metal base that is padded and can swivel. Can't really ask for much else with a microphone of this style.
It is a little on the big side for my taste - but I have OCD and enjoy as clutter free of desktop real estate as I can get (hence monitors on monitor arm).
The LED light is a nice touch and can be changed - not much to report there - not a big deal in my eyes since I don't have a flashy setup it will co-mingle with in that sense.
My coworkers commented on the clarity of it the first time I got on to a meeting so that was a promising sign upon first use - no complaints or issues since.
Only "gripes" I have are the USB power placement (underside pointing towards the base) and the oddly colored striped USB cord they provide - orange seems a bit out there and doesn't really go with anything I can see most people having on their desks but its a minor thing and getting another cable is no biggie.
The software for this (JBL Quantum) seems pretty robust and the windows interface is nifty looking but for me personally I likely will not mess with it much - I could see if I was into actual streaming etc it would probably be nice to be able to fine tune settings.
(Quick Side-Note: The demonstration video was recorded before I read the manual, so if you watch it, you'll hear some of my confusion of the functions that I mention here in text).
Though I'm not currently a live streamer or a gamer, the JBL Quantum Stream Microphone still has a home with me as I do a multitude of things from video editing to audio voiceovers and this mic meets my essential needs.
It comes in a durable box, tightly-enough placed in to avoid shipping damage. Luckily, the base-stand is already configured, so there's nothing you have to put together - plug-n-play, plain and simple.
Included is strong a 6-ft. USB to USB-C power cable. Once plugged in, you notice that an LED light as the base of the microphone (but not the stand) which turns green. It gives a nice glow that will fit the vibe of any gamer or regular streamers' room.
On the front of the microphone, there is a knob which controls volume of the gain input and the volume which in turn controls the brightness of the LED light. Basically put, the louder the volume, the brighter the light. The knob, which is also a button, clicks and when clicked changes the color of the LED light. For me, when I would click it, I would see the color change momentarily, but it would always revert back to green which seems to be it's default color for when the mic is hot (live). The button also serves as a funtion when held for approximately 1-2 seconds to switch between cardiod and omnidirectional. (*My demo video was set to cardiod only; I tested the omnidirectional setting after uploading my video).
The mic itself feels solid and made of a durable material, yet it's lightweight and sturdy. I find it to be the perfect height and width as it's not too bulky for my recording space. Along the bottom of the mic, there is a headphone jack and the USB power port. Part of me initially wished that the USB port had been on the back, but I've grown (since my recording) to like it's position as I now find it to not be in the way.
It was truly plug-n-play for me - I think my PC may have taken a moment to install a driver like it typically would for any newly recognized device, but nothing long or unordinary. Upon turning on my recording DAW (digital audio workstation), I was able to choose this mic as my recording input device and immediately test this baby out. I spoke as far back as about 18 inches to getting right upon the mic, to speaking into the side and to the back of it, too (on the cardiod setting). All of this was without a pair of headphones plugged into it, too, by the way; so with that said, me turning the knob which controls the volume had no bearing on my recording since I wasn't using it as an output with headphones - which I think had a bearing on the color of the LED light continuously reverting back to green during my initial test.
I discovered upon playback that the ideal distance from the mic to speak into it would be between 3 to 6 inches back, depending on how loud you're projecting. If you have a loud, carrying voice, maybe 6 to 10 inches back would be ideal for you.
Sound-wise, I personally loved the clarity of the mic as well as the low-end. My natural speaking voice isn't the deepest, but even my lower speaking register gave a nice, warm tone when I played it back, without sounding muffled. I think for live-streaming or for a podcast that the sound of this mic is impeccable. I love listening to podcasts during my down-time and this mic makes me feel confident that if I wanted to jump into that industry today that I wouldn't have to seach for the "right mic" because I've already got such a top contender, sound-wise.
Testing out the omnidirectional setting, it truly does capture a consistent sound no matter which direction you speak into it from, which I found to be convenient. This would hold well for a multi-person ran podcast if needed without having to invest in multiple mics for each person.
The top of the microphone, to my surprise, is a mute button. Looking at it, you'd have absolutely no idea. I myself didn't know until I read the manual and tested it. There's no 'click' sound - you sort of just tap it and you'll see the LED light turn red to indicate that the mic is cold/muted.
Also, sound-wise, the environment I recorded in was an almost silent room and the mic picked up no distortion or unusual ambiance sound - it captured the normal sound of 'dead air' I'd expect any mic to pick up, so I was happy about that.
All in all, I give this mic a 10 out of 10. I've used many a mics in my time, and I have zero faults with this one. The sound is clear and warm-sounding and works for the intentions as made by JBL. When I tested it with my favorite pair of headphones (the JBL Club 950NC), it sounded marvelous.
Great job, JBL - you've done it again!
Con: Inconvenient location of the USB C Port and the base need little bit more weight.
I am very satisfied with the microphone. I have to say that it is one of the best I have bought since 2018. The sound quality is great. JBL Quantum offers simple plug-and-play and good quality. I'm more like the JBL Quantum Stream!
When the package arrived one is directly noticed the beautifully designed packaging, which is decorated with very beautiful colors. The microphone was well protected during shipping, so it can not go kaput. When you touch the microphone, you will notice that the microphone feels very good and has a very good quality, because the microphone is completely made of metal from the outside.
Setting up the microphone is very easy, only the "registration" did not work well, because the QR code did not work as intended. To set up, you only have to plug the USB cable into the device and then you can make settings in the free software, but this is not absolutely necessary.
The sound quality of the microphone is very good, but I have similar quality even with much cheaper microphones can determine.
The mute button on the microphone is practical only with me an error occurred. Sometimes it happened that when I muted myself that the LED strip (indicates whether you are muted) then permanently changed color, which I did not understand. The wheel with which you could change the volume is good.
Also the design of the mic is very nice. My wife first thought it was a speaker and not a mic. I would buy this great microphone for this price!
The simple, but fancy design is great without any frills.
It can be easily connected to the PC and is easy to use (Plug and Play. An additional software is not necessary.
The sound quality is more than sufficient for recording YouTube videos, for example.
The fact that you have the mute switch directly on the microphone is a clear plus.
The lighting also signals you what "stage" the mic is in, so you always know when the mic is recording.
Unfortunately, there is no option to adjust the microphone in height. But you can tilt it with the stand that comes with the product.
The jBL Quantum Steam was sent to me as a product test.
My husband tried the microphone also for telephone conferences at work. It was totally easy, just plug the mic in and it was ready for teams and others. With the control dial you can adjust the volume. If you push this dial you can adjust the sensitivity of the mic which is shown in the brightness of the colored ring at the bottom. All very easy and intuitive. We will recommend this mic as a good and valuable helper for work and fun.
But for me it could be height adjustable, that you can move it easily The RGB is not too much though not too less, so that is perfect for me. And also a positive fact is that you can mute you on the microphone.
It is very suitable for live games, online conferences like zoom, podcasts, etc.
The directionality of the microphone can be easily switched by simply pressing and holding the volume button on the main unit.
The main body can be rotated 360 degrees and e.g. mounted on a tripod and placed on a table depending on the location.
One can toggle mute on or off with a simple tap of the button on the top of the main unit, making it a model that combines high functionality and ease of use.
The illumination, which is also a feature of the JBL Quantum series, is designed so that the ring on the bottom of the main unit lights up and you can see the operating status by changing colors.
The stylish and highly durable design and the stable aluminum stand should also be emphasized.
