Convenience, not Compromise

Everyone loves the convenience of digital audio. Nobody enjoys the compromises digital audio playback sometimes involves. That’s why the CXN (V2) is designed to provide the effortless accessibility of digital audio, but with the uncompromised sonic excellence of Cambridge’s 50-plus years of hi-fi experience. Ease of use meets quality of performance.

The World’s Music, Any Way You Want It

Digital audio is available from many sources - and CXN (V2) is able to deliver from those you love most. Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and Tidal offer a world’s-worth of content, there’s Chromecast built-in to make things even easier, and the CXN (V2) is Roon Tested which means your NAS and UPnP audio is at your fingertips too. Add digital optical and coaxial inputs, asynchronous USB socket, aptX Bluetooth (via adapter) and internet radio, and CXN (V2) brings the planet’s music into your home.

The Whole Story

Getting hold of the music you want is one thing. Being moved by the fidelity of its reproduction is quite another. That’s why CXN (V2) is packing dual Wolfson WM8740 digital-to-analogue convertors - by upscaling any digital audio information to an information-packed 24bit/384kHz using Cambridge’s unique ATF2 technology, music is delivered with the sort of warmth, depth, nuance and unity not automatically associated with digital audio.

Power In Your Hands

CXN (V2) features prodigious processing power, quite unlike that of any nominal rival. Cambridge’s renowned Stream Magic platform ensures a slick, seamless and stable listening experience from any source, and its out-of-the-box mpeg-DASH and HLS compatibility means live streams are equally consistent and of equally high quality.

Control: Pure, Simple And Complete

Interacting with CXN (V2) couldn’t be simpler or more satisfying. The bespoke Cambridge Audio Stream Magic app allows straightforward, stable and intuitive control of all connected sources - curate playlists, set presets or browse albums conveniently and in comfort. Then allow the big, colorful and crisp fascia display to show your commands or the album artwork of the music you’re enjoying.

Making The Best Even Better, constantly

Four What Hi-Fi? Awards in a row speaks volumes about how well-loved the CXN (v2) is - but Cambridge is always searching for ways to improve. A constant program of development, a constant desire to seek out marginal gains in performance, and the ability to update the CXN (v2) remotely, as and when it’s required, means the best network audio streamer around just keeps getting better.

Great Network Player for Tidal!
I listen to a lot of Tidal Masters, and Apple TV 4K won’t pass through the highest quality levels available, so I purchased this Cambridge Network Audio Player. So far, I love the quality and reliability — and I expect to notice an even bigger difference when I get my full system together.

Has Simplified and Improved Streaming
I’ve been very pleased with this purchase. I have a Roon Rock based NUC attached via USB. Sound quality in my system has shown a noticeable improvement with the CXN v2 and Roon is a great way to organize your music.

The Cambridge CXN V2? My second favorite thing.....EVER!
The Cambridge CXN V2 is so much bang for the buck it spoils me. I’ve loved hi-fi and stereo gear for decades and I think maybe this is what I’ve been waiting for. I like most genres of music and the thousands of internet radio stations on the CXN scratches that itch. I also have several external hard drives with tens of thousands of mp3’s and flacs that I can simply plug into one of the usb ports and the Cambridge will read my 3tb drive in less than a minute! Faster than my Mac! With Cambridge’s app, Stream Magic, on the iPad I can easily select tracks, make playlists, etc. and since I’m using Stream Magic I can access my Spotify account, or any other music streaming account. Select internet radio stations or choose from a Favorites list of 15 choices. Contrary to another reviewer here, you CAN stream from your iPhone with the optional Cambridge streamer....around $75 here at World Wide. Just pops into a usb port. And for this money you won’t find a display on any streamer as nice as the CXN’s. So all this means nothing if a unit sounds poor or the dac is weak. Not the case with the Cambridge at all! Sound is excellent! No more internet radio fatigue! Smooth, well balanced sound! Solid mids and bass and the highs ‘shimmer’ as they say. I run my cd player through the Cambridge so I can use it’s dac. That’s how good it is. I really love this piece. Best hi-fi money you can spend. I expect to enjoy it for many years to come!

Almost perfect
The CXN V2 is almost perfect. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I can’t WiFi my Apple Music from my phone to the streamer.

Why did you choose this?

I WANTED A GOOD SOUNDING AUDIO STREAMER THAT I DIDNT HAVE TO USE MY PHONE. THE ONLY THING I WISH THIS UNIT HAD WAS 32 BIT HOWEVER SINCE REVIEWS WERE GOOD I DECIDED TO PULL THE TRIGGER.
HALL W on Mar 10, 2023
To me, this is arguably the best music streamer at this price point, offering a number of high quality features and a good reputation by the manufacturer for outstanding products.

I read a lot of reviews online about this offering the best digital streaming that featured a great DAC and good user experience. I was looking for something that would unlock Tidal MQA (Master) quality for my HiFi system.

Is this series 1 or 2 of CXN ?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2019
The V2 indicated that it is Version/Series 2.
MQA compatible? I don't see this in specs.
Lawrence G on Nov 12, 2022
Thanks for your inquiry. Although the CXN (V2) can receive MQA encoded content, it is not possible for the CXN (V2) to playback full MQA files via TIDAL Connect because the CXN (V2) does not have an MQA decoder built in to unfold the MQA files. https://techsupport.cambridgeaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411352799633-Can-the-CXN-V2-support-MQA-content-
If I want to listen to Tidal Masters in their highest resolution, would this be my best option? I have a Marantz AV7706 processor with HEOS built-in, but it only appears to stream up to 16-bit/44.1khz on Tidal. I also have Apple TV 4K, but I don't believe that is any higher resolution...
Josh C on Jul 24, 2022
Thanks for your inquiry. The CXN is among the best network audio players we offer. With the Stream Magic app it is easy to use and offers the highest level of high resolution playback.
Hi
I want to use this as a network audio streamer for Apple Music and also use it to play files off my old iTunes music collection on SSD (no longer using a desktop at home). I have a Blusound Node but that has to reindex the SSD every time you switch it on. Is it the same with this? or will it memorise the index?
Thanks
A shopper on Mar 1, 2022
Thank you for your question. The CXN (V2) owners manual does not address your reindex of SSD question, nor is any reference to it to be found on their website. With situations such as this I defer to their excellent tech support: 877-357-8204.
Does anyone stream Sirius-XM with this devise? I have a subscription with my car which for a nominal increase should offer at home programming. Also, is this iTune compatible? I subscribe to Apple music service already and need to limit these recurring subscription fees. Thank you.
A shopper on May 2, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The CXN is capable of streaming Sirius-XM and many many other providers. The CXN user manual provides an overview of its capabilities. https://techsupport.cambridgeaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002696018-CXNv2-Series-2-Manual
I stream Tidal etc from an iPad or iPhone using a Yamaha CDS300 CD player as a DAC (192kHz 24 Bit) and a Woo WA-7 headphone amp through Senn HD 800S headphones. Is there an advantage sound or feature wise to use the CXN instead of the iPhone with the CD player DAC, Ive mentioned?
A shopper on Mar 7, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. As good as the DAC in the CDS300 is you will likely hear a subtle improvement using the CXN. You may also find that using the CXN as a streaming source built-in will be more convenient than streaming from your iPod or iPhone.
How much space is available on the device for storage of audio files?
Ken M on Mar 6, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. It appears that the CXN requires to use of external devices and servers. The owners manual may be found here for a complete overview of its capabilities: https://techsupport.cambridgeaudio.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/360011873957/CXN_v2_Users_Manual_-_English_Reference.pdf
I have a CXA81, will the old Wolfsen DAC inhibit the sound from the CXA81's Sabre DAC?
A shopper on May 19, 2020
Thanks for your question. We cant objectively compare the sound of different DACs. If your preference is the Sabre DAC in the CXA81 you may want to use the CXN digital output into the CXA81 digital input. The CXN owners manual states that the digital output allows a separate DAC.
The Product Information describes the Cambridge Audio CXN (v2) as 'upscaling any digital audio information to an information-packed 24bit/384kHz ' - does that include an SSD connected via USB? Can you expand on that description?
A shopper on Mar 11, 2020
Thanks for your question. The Cambridge upscales any digital audio to 24bit/384kHz, including an SSD connected via USB. As the SSD is only a storage device the CXN will upscale any applicable contained files to a maximum of 24/384. We are unable to contact Cambridge at the present time to provide any further explanation.
