Just what I expected, great sounds from Bose
I just bought this after returning a cheaper brand and I love it. Great sounds and no negative surprises. I am very glad I went with Bose.

Sound Good but Broken After a Year
I bought these about a year ago. They sounded great with plenty of volume until 2 months ago when the volume started changing on its own. The volume randomly changes without me touching the dial, the problem has gotten progressively worse and now the volume will change to random levels every 10-20 seconds. They are now completely unusable with volume moving from too low to hear to too high to bear. I looked this up online and it seems to be a common problem with these particular speakers.

Awesome!
I used to have two Pioneer 12" 3-way speakers and Magnavox head hooked into my computer as general purpose use since my computer also acts as our TV for movies. I replaced those with these to cut down on space, and while these little speakers aren't going to have the same SPL or low end as large tower speakers, they put out quite a bit for their size and have a significantly better sound stage (depth, width, and height). These appear to use the very same drivers as the Bose Waveguide that I have sitting in my living room. Just make sure you use an external DSP with these, and you will be happy!

One problem that is ALMOST easy to remedy.
My wife bought these for me to use in our home office, or as she calls it, 'the lair'. The sound reproduction is very good, better than any computer speakers we have ever used. The only problem is the limited separation , since the standard code is only about six feet and by the time you drop it though one desktop cord opening and up through another you can only get them about four feet apart. The cable connections are non-standard, so it's not easy to remedy this. However, a very nice gentleman at Bose online support is shipping me an extension that will allow me to get the full eight foot separation on my work station.

A nice addition to these would be a connection for a separate woofer. I have a very good one but no connection is available.

Great Basic Speakers
I often use headphones with my computer, with the headphones plugged directly into the computer’s speaker jack, however the volume is barely loud enough. My headphones are a basic passive type and offer no amplification of volume, thus I wanted a speaker setup with an amplified headphone jack and not a passive pass through. Try as I might, I wasn’t able to determine whether the headphone jack on the Bose Companion 2 Series III Speakers was amplified or not (hence this review), though I was reasonably confident it was, so bought them anyway.

Upon setting up the Bose Companion 2 Series III Speakers with my computer and plugging the headphones into the speaker's headphone jack, I was pleased to find the volume was approximately 50% louder than if the headphones were plugged directly into the computer’s speaker jack - exactly what I wanted. The volume can also be adjusted by the speaker’s volume control knob which is very handy.

If you need a headphone amp, the Bose Companion 2 Series III Speakers will do the job nicely, plus you get a great sounding and aesthetically pleasing set of speakers too.

Nice computer speakers
A nice set of computer speakers. I would give it 5 stars, but it would be nice to be able to defeat the digital signal processing if desired and having the aux in on the front instead of the back. Overall, I'm happy with these speakers.

Good, but I cranked bass too much...
I bought them 7 years ago, and they still sound great!
I cranked the bass too much on my computer (the bass got too distorted) sound a little clipped when I crank the vol. But they still sound great!

Real good sound!
Super easy to cable up. Very good sound. Detail, depth, crispiness, nice and round. Compact size. If I wanted to change anything, I'd make the audio cable longer.

I've been looking for speakers with an auxiliary jack so I can attach my iphone and try to avoid the battery drain that can go with using bluetooth. These speakers are a good price for what I need.

Are these good for music production?
Jaden W on Nov 19, 2017
These are personal desk top speakers for recreational listening and would not be appropriate for accurate music mixing
Can these speakers be hooked up to a tv?
A shopper on Oct 26, 2017
As strange as it may seem, the answer is, well, maybe. Some TV's will have the necessary 3.5mm audio output to connect these speakers. If your TV has a 3.5mm out (standard headphone jack) then you're in business! If not, then you will not be able to connect to your TV.
Can I use it for tv?
A shopper on Oct 17, 2017
The only inputs on this speaker are two 3.5mm jacks (sometimes called aux). If your TV has a 3.5mm analog audio out, you can connect these to your TV.
