Customer Reviews for SVS Ultra Tower Speaker
In short, veiled, fair imagining with little continuity, with acoustic instruments missing the nuances that are particular to the instruments being played.
As a movie based surround sound system or even a 2.1, they are very good on the Marantz Pearl KI and OPPO 105. When moving to the Marantz 11 series reference group and my Micro Benz Ruby Z cartridge on a heavily upgraded Technics with Cardas wiring, arm anti resonant to what is available from the new reference series and the high density anti-vibration of the internal chassis and servo (The Frequency Generator Servo Control on the SL-1200 MK5 produces a distortionless sine wave, allowing a tightly controlled rotation with wow and flutter of 0.01 the thing weighs 45 lbs and unweighted rumble over -70), it's missing details of speakers that have invested money into the crossover and the peerless drivers which are good lack the coherence of the performance.
I find they sound best in theatre mode. Regular music is good, but blu ray & 4K discs REALLY accentuate/demonstrate the Ultras capability/versatility.
All 4 of my atmosphere speakers are SVS. Sides and backs are other mfrs (only because I own many speakers and want to get some use out of them.)
Add in a rebuilt PC+, a PB16, a Prime Center, and that rounds out my 11.2 theatre. All speakers come off my Yamaha, all via pre-outs into super SA power amps. (Heck, I ran three new dedicated 20 amp circuits to that back wall just to feed the monster’s (included my 2 SVS subs; all with 10 AWG wire for no drops.) 5 Power amps range from 400 to 1200 wpc @ 8 ohms, (with one unit being a 4 channel 500wpc @ 8ohms for the atmosphere speakers.)
So, including the subs, 9 of my 13 speakers are SVS. I still want to get the ultra center.
The sound of our theater is so incredible that, (even as an quasi-audiophile), it overwhelmingly exceeded my expectations. With that said, I’ll put our family room theatre up against any IMAX venue.
Thx to SVS. I’m a looooong time customer too.
With the Ultra Towers in my 5.4.2 surround system, the sound in my home theater is big in size and scope. The front soundstage is wide, seamless and coherent together with the Ultra Center. Other SVS equipment includes the Prime Elevations and Ultra SB-13 (with upgraded amps) subwoofers and various SouthPath accessories. My AVR is Denon X8500H.
For two channel materials playing in a “Pure Mode,” the Ultra Towers are powered by the Parasound A21 amp. During playback, the Towers’ high notes are clear and airy and are non-strident or non-fatiguing. I found the mid range to be great for vocals. The phantom center image is rock solid and image depth is very good. Again, the soundstage is wide. The Ultra Towers deliver a lot of smooth and beefy bass.
I’m very pleased with the purchase of the Ultra Towers. Besides sounding great, they look beautiful with the piano finish.
The only negative experience with the purchase of the Ultra Towers (NOT SVS’s fault) was with the freight carrier. One of the shipping boxes was damaged during shipping. The bottom flap was torn (1/3 piece was missing) and the inner bottom flap was crushed. Because of the dense foam packing materials, the speaker was not damaged. The incident was reported to Scott at SVS. I also reported a missing speaker spike kit which may have fallen out of the damaged box. Scott immediately send a kit out to me and I received it in a few days. Great SVS customer service!
10 stars for coustomer sevice!!
