Surrounded by power

The RX-V485 from Yamaha offers top-quality surround options such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master, driven by five powerful, discrete amplifier channels (plus a line-level subwoofer output). Alternately, you can choose to feed a second stereo listening area elsewhere in your house (mirroring your main listening source). As is all Yamaha equipment, the V485 is conservatively engineered, with separate pure-power supplies for analog and digital circuitry to minimize noise and distortion.

MusicCast expands your wireless world

Speaking of elsewhere in the house, MusicCast, Yamaha’s trademarked multi-room Wi-Fi listening system, gives you the option of sending audio from your receiver or other sources (home network or online) to virtually any room in your house – or outside if you so desire. And the newest enhancement, MusicCast Surround, means there are no more wires to trip over when you turn your MusicCast speakers into surrounds (subwoofer coming later this year).

Wireless streaming via MusicCast

MusicCast opens up the whole wide Wi-Fi world of cloud streaming services, with simple app access (MusicCast Controller available for Android and Apple iOS). Spotify Connect, Pandora, TIDAL, Deezer, SiriusXM and more, plus thousands of free Internet radio stations, are right at your fingertips. Hook into your home network to stream your own music collection. Or beam songs directly from phone or pad using Apple’s AirPlay or Bluetooth with Yamaha’s proprietary Compressed Music Enhancer, making mobile music sound better than ever. (Incidentally, the V485’s Bluetooth is two-way, which means you can send the sound wirelessly to your favorite headset.)

Pictures worth a thousand words

The V485 sports four HDMI inputs, all of which support full 4K pass-through with upscaling to make even standard signals look their best on the latest screens. And full Ultra HD sources look phenomenal. All the latest protocols are supported for broadcast, video streaming and discs, including HDCP 2.2, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Hybrid Log-Gamma, which expand video dynamic range for more vivid colors and greater detail in both bright and shadowy scenes.

Digital decoding just a bit better

The V485’s high performance DAC circuits convert the bits and bytes of today’s digital sound sources into sweet music. And the V485 is built to handle today’s high-resolution music files, whether WAV, ALAC or FLAC up to 192 kHz/32 bit, or DSD up to 11.2 MHz.

Tuned to your room – and your preferences

Yamaha’s Parametric Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) automatically tunes the sound to your listening environment. Just set the included microphone at your listening position, and the RX-V485 measures and adjusts frequency response, time delay and volume level of each channel to squeeze the best sound out of your speakers and you room’s acoustics.

Bring the concert hall home with Cinema DSP

The V485 doesn’t quite read your mind, but if you long to be transported to a concert hall, stadium or intimate jazz club, Cinema DSP 3D will get you there. Yamaha is a pioneer in the creation of virtual spaces through Digital Soundfield Processing, taking detailed measurements in real venues and programming the data right into its processors. Cinema DSP 3D offers pinpoint location of sound effects, transforms your room into any number of locations, and gives you full control of the scale of the space. Combine four sources with your choice of DSP settings and save them in convenient Scene buttons on the front panel and remote.

Simple setup, app control

The more feature-rich a unit is, the more difficult it can be to get just right. But Yamaha makes the process seamless. First, an app-based AV Setup Guide takes you through the initial hookup and adjustment process. Connections and settings are available through on-screen menus, a full-function remote, or the Yamaha AV Controller app (iOS and Android). The MusicCast Controller app (also for iOS and Android) is integrated with Amazon’s amazing Alexa, which makes music as simple as “Alexa, play Misty for me.”

Pairs well with …

If you decide to opt for the wireless MusicCast rear speakers, the RX-V485 is powerful and versatile enough to pair with a wide variety of front 3-speaker packages. As always, let your ears ultimately be your guide. And shop with confidence; every purchase comes with World Wide Stereo’s 60-day guarantee and expert product support.

Does this product use 240 volts. Saw on '220 electronics' website that it can be switched between 110-240 volts but cant find that at the back of the receiver.

I know that heading sounds odd, but for those oldies who have not purchased a receiver for many years, it is very relevant. I always liked separate components, i.e., tuner, preamp, amp, and so forth. This is a killer box, with wi-fi that allot allows for beautiful streaming music, just gorgeous. A key point, in use as a stereo (non-surround), there are settings that allow you to utilize all 5 channels for a great sound. I use 5.1 for movies et al. The sound options are varied and sophisticated. I am still learning how to use this after two weeks. The manual BTW is extremely well written, hats off to whoever did that. The MusicCast software is amazing.

Bottom line, I have not enjoyed listening to music this much since I was in my early 20s, and that was a very long time ago. Yamaha did a terrific job with this receiver.
The sound is clean, rich, powerful.

Can I use this this receiver with a Klipsch R-20B sound bar, I want to power some Klipsch Forte floor speakers I would like to incorporate into my seround.?
John M on Sep 2, 2019
Soundbars are internally self amplified and therefore may not be used with a receiver.
