Best in Class, Best in Audio/Video Reproduction
Coming from many Receivers I have put together over decades of Audio, Video home use. Recently there has been a Debate between "Audiophiles" of which Manufacturing really has the Most reliable, best use for Home Audio and or Home Video. Home theater has come of age, to the point of ever changing technology. Many home audio/video hobbyists, enthusiast, and audiophile are at a point of, Diminishing return on the Value of what can be had on a open market. At the forefront of Home Audio are, AVR's two come to mind, Yamaha and Denon. Let's throw In Marantz, Sony, Onkyo. There are Meaningful and less meaningful debates about which manufacturer produces the best sounding most reliable best value for your dollar. Yamaha leads the Pack in a very Competitive market of home audio AVR's
Yamaha in my My opinion has been crushing the competition for decades in reliability, true natural audio reproduction Home Theater processing with their PEQ, and now with AI. I will mention that some other AVR Manufactures can and do Spec out better in certain areas. All things being equal when your looking at a spec sheet what's the difference. Do I recommend Yamaha's Adventage line, Absolutely. Just about any Yamaha AVR, will not need added cooling for heat removal when placed in accommodations with ventilation. Other, Manufacturers may need help with cooling off, added "Droid" fan placed on top for added heat removal. There have been Discussions of that issue with heat and reliability of AVR's todate. In a Word, Just Buy Yamaha.

Very pleased.
I wanted a system to drive my living room 5.2.2 setup. I installed all in wall / in Ceiling Polk speakers which are of lower cost and ideal for the multi purpose living room they are installed in.

I was previously using a Pioneer VSX 1020 and was somewhat underwhelmed by the overall sound quality. I knew I wanted to incorporate some Atmos capabilities and was looking for an receiver that would provide a little more oomph and features.

The difference is unbelievable. The Polk speakers came alive.

I used the calibration mic with multiple Listening positions. This was very straight forward process.

I have been using the amp now for 30 days and would certainly recommend. Looking forward to it’s big brother when we create the dedicated theater room.

Yamaha never fails
I've been a long time Yamaha owner and user dating back to 1984. This receiver has so many upgrades if you want to call them that never cease to amaze me. Setting up the speaker arrangement and distance from the user to it being a "smart" receiver. When I power up my DVD payer it automatically changes the input. Same thing when I use Roku or Chromecast. When I use the remote to power up ro down my TV, the receiver is right there with it. The sound is very crisp. I can adjust the sound levels speaker by speaker. Go Yamaha!

A high quality product with a rich warm sound
This is a fantastic receiver. I've spent the past couple weeks searching for the right receiver. I initially purchased a cheaper Sony Unit that didn't have the options or sound quality that I was looking for. Next I purchased the Denon X3500H after reading all the the positive reviews. I found that receiver to be cumbersome to use, the menus were unintuitive to navigate, the remote felt and looked cheap, and the sound quality was overly bright and unnatural sounding with my Klipsch RP-8000F speakers. After returning it and purchasing this unit, I'm much happier. The RX-A1080 outputs a clean, warm, natural soundstage that's a joy to listen to.

Starts good but declines within a year
When my last receiver encountered the dreaded HDMI board issue we decided to by this receiver while the other unit went for repair to be relegated to a secondary receiver. When we first brought the Yamaha the sound was OK but after much, much tweaking (more than any other receiver I owned), I got it to a nice warm sound. I started worried about LFE, the sub had no "oomphl. Days of tweaking and finally sounded good.

Fast forward six months not only did one of my HDMI inputs die but the unit also sounds and awful. L /R speakers are flat, tinny. The Center marginally better. Surrounds good but the sub's level has to be cranked up to obtain any meaningful, balanced bass.

Half the time, the sub LFE input will not get a signal until I crank the volume. Once it dies, it turns on.

The sub is fine, when I connect my old receiver the bass rock, i had to lower it to a third of thee needed volume for Yamaha.

I was so excited at first with this one. There are days now I want to just throw it out.

Google low bass and you will find dozens upon dozens of similar complaints.

I am blown away by how the sound is so much better than my previous receiver (~20 years old). So clear that I don't know why I did not hear the muddiness before.
