Yamaha CD-S303 CD Player with MP3/WMA/LPCM/FLAC/USB Compatibility

I like the player, and so far it's worked fine.

I ordered this through crutchfield with their 6 month return policy. After about 7 months this player started making all kinds of weird noises. Contacted Yamaha and just got back my repaired unit. Seems to be fine now. We'll see. Didn't expect this after spending close to $400 on a cd player.

Placed in my system to replace an older Technics 100 CD changer. It is exactly what I had hoped for. Easy to use and great sound. And it does not take long to load and unload, a plus!

Very nice unit, quality build, matches my R-S700 Yamaha receiver and remote.
Great sound quality, except...
The unit has an intermittent digital glitch in audio, sometimes will go for hours no problem.
Tried two different units, and same problem.
Issue happens on new CDs and some USB flash drives.
Replaying glitched track plays fine, issue does not repeat, so not media.
Found a 128gb usb3 flash drive that plays without issue.
Flash drives must be formatted fat32 to work. No xfat.

Yamaha engineering has confirmed the issue and a fix is in the works, hopefully via a firmware update. Gave it 4 stars as a nice unit and a fix is on the way.
Its man made, stuff happens.

Great sound. Quiet disc tray. Unfortunately, the USB input jack doesn't work. I tried with 2 different apple ipods.

I have been buying Yamaha audio equipment for 45 years. I have found that Yamaha's audio equipment is impeccable in both sound and quality of build. After 33-years, my Yamaha cd player has finally started to go bad. Because I have had a great experience with Yamaha, I ordered a new S303 cd player, with the business I purchased this from having already installed the 1.37 firmware update for me. When I received the unit, I played 3-4 cd's continuously and it started to crack and pop. I paused the cd and ran it back to the start of the same song and it did not crack or pop anymore. After the next few songs, it began to crack and pop again. I contacted the business that I purchased this from and spoke with the technician and asked them if they had heard of any issues with the S303. The technician told me that they had heard of no problems but to return the unit back to the store. I ordered my second 303 from another company, when I received the unit after about 3-4 cd's, it started to crack and pop. I installed the 1.37 firmware update as I read from Yamaha's website. This did not help the situation and did not fix this issue. I contacted Yamaha corporation in California and asked them if they had any complaints from customers that they have heard regarding other S303 owners. I was told that they have not heard any complaints regarding this issue, and I was told to return the unit back to the company. I ordered my third S303 from another company (not the same as the 2nd one). After 3-4 cd's, the exact same issue started to happen. I installed the 1.37 firmware update to no avail. I called the technician at the company I purchased this product from and was told that this technician had heard of no complaints but there is definitely a problem with the unit. I was told by this technician to send the unit back, which I did. While looking over recent reviews regarding the S303, I found that I am not the only person dealing with these issues. I really am Upset

In home listening to CD's paired with a Yamaha receiver this CD-S303 makes CD's sound almost as good as vinyl.

Bought this CD player after talking with sales rep via phone. Haven't used all the goodies yet but for just playing a CD, it works just fine. Don't normally buy over the phone, but I know WWS and they stand by everything they sell!

For those who really like their music without issues this Yamaha CD-S303 player fits the build. It's built well and solid. Nice looking as well. I have it setup with my RX-A4A which matches very nice. Sound quality is phenomenal. I have a lot of older CD's that are not in the best of shape. Plays All of them without issues. I've tried out the USB and again no issues. The added Pure Direct is a very nice touch. I'm using all outputs. I especially like the Pure Direct engaged with the analog L/R outs, in 2.1 Stereo. If your thinking of adding a dedicated CD player, I do recommend Yamaha's CD-S303 CD player you won't regret it.

The Yamaha CD-S303 is a great single cd player. I love it so far and I have no issues.
