A Professional-Grade Amp

Ready to move on up with your amplification technology? Looking for a professional-grade amp for your home theater? Look no further than our Yamaha A-S801 Integrated Amplifier. The undisputed king of Yamaha’s home amp line, this baby plays everything from your vinyl collection to your film library -- to your high-resolution Direct Stream Digital (DSD) audio files. Make it the center of your entertainment system - only a Yamaha amplifier combines this level of audio performance and quality construction!

What’s in a Name?

Ever notice that so many rockers’ instruments are made by Yamaha? This is no coincidence. Specializing in providing professional-grade audio for generations, Yamaha makes some of the best instruments and sound systems on the planet. Now, with a high quality amplifier like A-S801, put some of that experience to work in your own stereo setup or home theater.

Your Entertainment Center’s Very Own Transformer

At its core, an amp is a wonder of modern electronics engineering, converting a small input circuit to a much larger output, rather like a highly miniaturized transformer. Experience superior Yamaha sound technology as the current goes from input to output in a straight, symmetrical current, courtesy of their Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology (ToP-ART) concept - welcome to the future of audio amplification.

Better Parts = Better Sound

If you were to open this amp up (please do not try at home!) you would notice Yamaha’s dedication to high-quality components. The power transformer, custom back capacitors, speaker relays, grounding relays, heat sinks, and other various parts that go into this wonder of techno-wizardry are top-of-the-line. Quality matters when it comes to sound, and Yamaha only selects the very best.

The Shortest Current for the Best Sound

In modern electronic circuitry, current passes through many “gates” -- and each gate the circuit passes through causes infinitesimal signal degradation. This is what causes distortion in the sound output. The A-S801’s Pure Direct Mode solves this. By having sound signals bypass the buffer amp, tone, and loudness and balance controls, the signal doesn’t degrade, and distortion is nipped in the bud.

Make Your Music Loud --  Or Soft

Looking for greater control over your signal? With its new continuously variable loudness control, the A-S801 allows you to manually control your music’s balance of high and low frequencies. By compensating for natural loss in the human ear, especially at soft levels, this control gives you full control over your music’s tonal range -- at any volume level.

Connection Options Galore

Easily stream sound from your TV and/or blu-ray players with the A-S801’s included optical-digital coaxial terminal. Play your hi-res DSD files in stunning clarity and detail courtesy its amazing 32-bit SABRE digital-analog converter. Or go analog with its included moving-magnet (MM) phono terminal for all your best vinyl. Deepen your bass with its dedicated subwoofer terminal. Simply plug in Yamaha’s optional Bluetooth adapter (sold separately) and connect your devices wirelessly.

More Versatile than Ever

Ever wanted to listen to two different songs in two different rooms at the same time? Now you can. WIth four gold-plated speaker terminals for a high-quality loss-preventing connection, hook up a full 4-channel surround sound system in one room -- or hook up two separate speaker systems in two different rooms, with a different song in each one. Simply put, you can do more with this amp than you ever thought possible.

Understated Minimalism

Experience the cleanly minimalist beauty of Yamaha hi-fi design with with the A-S801. Its easy-to-operate, richly-textured aluminum front panel, with a silver hairline finish, contrasts elegantly with the cool black body. Plus, this care and attention to detail comes through on the included remote. Intuitive operation is at your fingertips.

Great integrated amp with DAC at the price point
My much more expensive audio system is out of the country and I wanted to be able to enjoy listening to recorded music again. Based on reviews and prices, bought the Yamaha A-S801, Cambridge CXC and ELAC Uni-Fi UF5 speakers. I'm pleased with the results - the best way to tell is that I really enjoy the music listening to this setup. Much better than the typical midfi setup where the music sounds like it's coming out of a tunnel. I want to add a Bryston BDP-Pi and wish there were more digital inputs on this - right now I'm using the digital optical for TV input - and the USB input won't work with the Linux-based Pi (Yamaha provides a special driver for Windows and Mac only). Give us at least 3 digital coax and 2 digital optical inputs, please!
Disable the power standby feature right away! It drove me crazy at first!
Overall quality seems great, but the speaker cable binding posts on the back are imperfect: not compatible with spades and they're mounted on a metal sheet which moves around too much. Give us more premium binding posts, please!
The 2.1 capability to add a subwoofer seems like a nice feature.

Yamaha A-S801, a very neutral, natural sound that anyone will fall in love with!
I purchased the Yamaha A-S801 based on my personal preference to the brand as well as the highly favored reviews supporting its features and sound quality. I was coming from a Yamaha stereo receiver and wanted to step up to the quality of an integrated amp for my 2 channel setup, I’ve just recently purchased the KLH Audio Kendall tower loudspeakers from World Wide Stereo as well, and let me tell you this combo is a match made in heaven, they go together like peanut butter and jelly! The A-S801 provides a very neutral, non colored (meaning no tilted up highs, or boosted lows) sound to my Kendall’s that’s very very detailed, dynamic and has clarity. All of my listening is either vinyl or CD, both sound rich and full, robust. The phono stage in the A-S801 is wonderful, it provides a wide range of dynamics and detail to my LP’s that I had not heard previously. I prefer to run the 801 in pure direct mode, flat on tone controls, as this provides a very neutral, natural sound. The 801 makes my Kendall’s really sing, it also provides a wide range of realism and clarity at any volume level, whether it be low level listening or when you feel the need to jam. I have not gone beyond 3/4 volume as the 801 is a pure dedicated 100 WPC, not inflated in the slightest! World Wide Stereo has been stellar in my recent purchases and Andrew has been a top-notch product specialist! Andrew is a product specialist that actually knows the products! How refreshing is that, you can actually call and talk to someone that knows what they are talking about!! The only thing I’ve found about the 801 that could be improved, and it’s minor, is the volume knob could use a little more detail in recognition of where the volume level is, its slightly notched but in a dimly lit room it provides a bit of guess work actually knowing where the volume is! Maybe a light for the next model, or at least a stronger, bolder notch on the knob to stand out better? Beyond that, the Yamaha A-S801 is perfect!!

I would recommend this A-S801 Integrated Amp
The Yamaha A-S801 Integrated Amp, replete with an ESS Sabre 32 bit DAC is quite outstanding...connected, via a coaxial cable, to a Cambridge Audio CXC.

It is quiet, resolute and detailed; I have a pair of Wharfdale 230 Tower Speakers connected using a pair of Blue Jean Speaker Cables.

However, the power button is dainty and the volume control is twitchy as once you bet past around 7:30 - or so, the slightest turn upwards can raise the volume control loud.

This may be the result of a coaxial cable replete with a powerline box replete with two Shunyata Venom Power Defenders?

Never-the-less...for less than $800.00 retail, the 801 is a mighty-fine piece of audio,,,well designed; well engineered and well manufactured. Use the inherent DAC through the coaxial and engage the "Pure Direct" button, and will have a very fine-sounding match.

I bought well and enjoy it much!

easy to set up; great inputs; this replaced an old A-700 and I miss the ability to select record inputs separately from source; OTOH capability for sub woofer; digital and computer/USB inputs and bi-amping more than compensate.
