Product Information

Unparalleled Low Frequency Depth, Power, and Detail

Chest-thumping slam and extreme low frequency extension with pinpoint accuracy and refined musicality – a level of subwoofer performance not seen at this price before. The SB-4000’s sophisticated DSP amplifier, innovative driver, and a sealed box design master room gain and command a space with deeper bass and higher output levels than what is typically possible from a subwoofer of its size. A top choice for audiophile music or home theater systems, the SB-4000 sets all performance benchmarks for a subwoofer and leaves larger and more expensive subs trembling in its wake.

Rated conservatively at 1,200 watts RMS, and 4,000+ watts peak power, the 4000 Series Sledge STA-1200D amplifiers use an efficient Class D design combined with fully discrete MOSFET output and a sophisticated Analog Devices DSP engine. The result is a level of effortless power and advanced processing not available from any other subwoofer manufacturer.

High Current Output of Discrete MOSFETs with Efficiency of Class D Amplifier

Combines the efficiency of a Class D amplifier design with the ability to move massive amounts of current through the fully discrete MOSFETs enabling immense low frequency output and precise driver control. Put simply, outstanding real-world subwoofer performance at all drive levels.

Sophisticated 50Mhz High Resolution Analog Devices Audio DSP

Most advanced digital processor ever used in a subwoofer maintains pinpoint accuracy and pristine sound quality through advanced in-room tuning, optimized frequency response curves, powerful DSP controls, and more.

Room Gain

Maximizes the subwoofer’s ability to take control of a room and benefit from the acoustic potential of the space it occupies by tailoring the roll off slope. The effect is accurate frequency response with staggeringly deep in-room extension – often as low as 10Hz - without the “boominess” commonly associated with room gain.

Advanced Limiting

Allows the amplifier to deliver all the way to the limits of its rated power and maximize on the driver’s potential with massive output and no distortion.

Active Power Factor Correction (PFC)

Serves as a line conditioner, surge suppressor, and voltage regulator letting the amplifier deal with wide voltage fluctuations and ensuring the subwoofers operate flawlessly on any household circuit no matter how unstable the incoming current.

An isolated circuit creates a vanishingly low noise floor by eliminating the potential for ground loop hums from outside components resulting in absolute sonic transparency.

Legendary SVS Output and Control

SVS 4000 Series drivers handle every watt of the Sledge STA-1200D amplifier’s power with precision and control to produce room energizing SPLs and effortless low frequency extension with pinpoint accuracy at all drive levels.

  • Dual ferrite magnet motor assembly weighing nearly 40lbs generates immense magnetic force and excursion of the 13.5-inch driver to produce massive low frequency output well below the limits of human hearing.
  • Edge wound voice coil with eight-layer aluminum flat wire minimizes distortion and power compression while providing excellent heat dissipation and linearity ensuring precise control.
  • Lightweight and rigid composite cone with premium glass fiber dustcap generate massive output with pinpoint accurate frequency response.
  • Proprietary injection molded gasket and long-throw parabolic surround ensure longevity and allow extreme excursion and SPLs.

Easiest Way Ever to Manage Subwoofer DSP and Control

Groundbreaking smartphone app works with Apple iOS and Android devices to unleash the full depth, force, and nuance of the 4000 Series subwoofers by controlling all DSP functions including: volume, parametric EQ, low pass filter, phase, polarity, room gain, port-tuning, custom presets, and system settings.

  • Connects via Bluetooth for convenient control even when subwoofer is out of sight.
  • 3-band parametric EQ controller allows precise adjustments for frequency slope and Q factor down to the single Hz level with four different slopes, so users can improve performance by eliminating peaks, nulls and other room issues.
  • Stores 3 custom presets for movies, music and other listening experiences such as sports or gaming.
  • 2-way feedback shows updates in real time on both the app and subwoofer interface.

Acoustically Inert and Rigidly Braced

Inlaid front panel display, rounded edges, and a curved metal grille on the 4000 Series cabinet give it a refined yet commanding look that blends visually with home theaters and high-end audio systems.

  • Double thick 2-inch MDF front baffle and rigid internal bracing to support the massive drive unit and to ensure an acoustically inert environment.
  • Highly reinforced internal design and acoustic insulation eliminates all coloration or resonance from the cabinet, even when the deepest low frequencies are played at reference volume.
  • Protective, non-resonant steel mesh grille and custom elastomer feet for reducing noise artifacts within a room.

SB-4000 is worth every cent.
I couldn’t be happier. I was looking to upgrade my system. I found the SVS staff rep to be very helpful. With his guidance I purchased the SB 4000. This Sub is a perfect match for my B/W CM-10s. Upgrade does not describe how good my system sounds. This Sub is a beast. It even looks great in black gloss. As I said, I couldn’t be happier.

SVS SB-4000 Subwoofer
The entire experience from unboxing, to viewing, to hearing this subwoofer was incredible. Researched Paradigm, and JL audio Fathom along with this SVS 4000. For approximately half price I was able to get what I believe to be a superior purchase in every aspect. The app works flawlessly, and allows adjustability with ease. I put on Dunkirk 4K to see what this subwoofer could do and was amazed. It can only be explained as being a complete and enveloping visceral experience. We have quite a large and irregular shaped theatre space that is about 30' x 60', and this SB4000 lets you feel and hear every LFE. I am sold on SVS for life, and was skeptical especially not being able to see, feel or hear before purchasing, and solely purchasing from reviews from all internet sources available. Thank you for making a quality product at affordable pricing. The added bonus is that the amplifiers are made in Canada, and that makes it that much better for me being a Canadian......always nice when the US and Canada collaborate.

Quite Pleased
Usually I wait a period before writing a review but after my arriving yesterday I hooked up this sub and was instantly please with it. I also have a Klipsch R-125SW and with the knobs on the back it took about a week or so to get it dialed in and blending well with my RP-600M's. I left the R-125SW right where it was and placed my SB-4000 towards the rear of my listening area, behind the couch a little bit and wow. I feared that with a smaller listening environment that it would be too much but I am one that always favors headroom. I loaded up a play list of some of my favorite tracks and after playing with the app for maybe 20 minutes I believe that I got it right where I want it to be. Its awesome to be able to sit in my listening position while getting everything dialed in. No guess work involved. I started with the phase and slowly slid it up and heard the bass come up and when it started to drop off I backed it off a little. Didn't like what negative polarity did to the sound so set it back to positive. Next was the room gain, I moved around the living room while cycling through the settings and found what sounded best. Then I loaded up a spectrum analyzer on my laptop and okay lets do a 2db gain at 20hz and a 1.3db gain at 25hz. WOW. Now its time to crank up the volume! I sat there for a minute and decided to back the volume off by 5db. This thing is a beast. Capable of providing more than twice as much bass than I care for and with out any distortion. I still have the R-125SW connected but I'm not sure if it is necessary but I figure running both will help to fill in dead zones. I did back off the R-125SW some because in the most impactful situations it is quite suspectable to port turbulence. In all I would highly recommend this sub to anyone. Also, with in positioned behind the couch I can feel the impact as well which adds a whole new dimension to movies and such.

Double the fun
I decided some time ago, that I wanted to go with dual subs. After finding a new home for my current sub, I started researching what would be the best sub to accomplish my goal. It had to be a sub that would be able to simultaneously work for 2-channel audio and home theater. I was more interested in accurate bass for 2-channel audio, than being knocked out of my seat with home theater use.

After doing a lot of homework, it looked like a SVS sub with its DSP technology would fit my needs. I kept reading rave reviews of the SB3000 model, so I ordered a pair of SB3000s. The subs came quickly and thanks to the stellar SVS tech support, I got them setup correctly. I really enjoyed the SB3000s, with their tight accurate bass. As much as I enjoyed the SB3000s, the extra features of the SB4000, with the remote, extra power and XLR connections were enticing. My previous sub was a $3000 unit, so it was impressive that the SB3000s faired very well up against that competition. With the return policy, I decided to send the SB3000s back and upgrade to the SB4000s.

While the SB3000 is excellent, the SB4000 is AMAZING. The power and quality of the bass are first class. The bass was tighter and deeper than my previous sub. I wasn't sure I'd ever use the remote control....wrong....it is very convenient. My only gripe is that at 102lbs, it took some work getting them into place. I opted for the SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System. The feet tighten up the bass and keep objects from rattling as much. I’d highly recommend getting them up front, so you don’t have to move the sub later.

The customer service at SVS is the best I've experienced. I talked to several different people and they were all very helpful and patient. I've been involved with customer support for years at my job. You can tell when people are just doing their job and when they really care about what they are doing. SVS support cares about the customer.

This big boy or girl gets low
The Sb 4000 is a really good solid performing sub. It is paired with Polk RTIA 9's powered by the Yamaha Rx-A3030 LFE. This sub yes-- a single sub can do the job in a 2625 cubic ft room. No you don't need two if we keep listening to these guys we're gonna need a sub for each speaker in a set-up. The Sb 4000 is excellent for music and movies and if you got pets and or kids you gonna want that grill which aint bad looking at all.

Second SVS SB-4000 to Go Dual
First SB-4000 has been great. Though effective, low-end sounds sometimes sounded localized. Addition of second subwoofer fills the room with sound. Very pleased with result.

Impressive sound (4.6 stars)
I've now had the SB-4000 for about 2 weeks. This sub replaces my Axiom EP350, which costs about the same amount, but the SB-4000 is a clear upgrade. I had to keep the EP350 turned almost all the way up and it still didn't quite fill my large living room. The SB-4000 balances out the soundstage nicely and fills the room with a robust and tight bass.

If sound was all I cared about, it might get 5.0 stars, but there are 2 small blemishes: (1) the 12-volt trigger creates a ground hum. The same 12-volt cable didn't produce a hum with the EP350 - or was at least mostly inaudible. Fortunately, this feature is redundant because there is a"subwoofer standby" option that can be set to "auto". This allows the subwoofer to wake when in use and turn off when not in use. Still, for the money, the 12-volt trigger should work without a hum! I took off 0.2 points for this. (2) It looks OK, but it is not sexy, which all high-end speakers should be. This subwoofer is mated with my Sonus faber Olympica Nova IIIs, which add to the atmosphere like a beautiful woman. The SB-4000 isn't even in the same ballpark with respect to looks. The SVS engineers are clearly focused on sound, but should focus just as much on making their products beautiful. For this mediocre look, I deducted another 0.2 stars.

Dual SB4000s - Both Dead on Arrival [UPDATE]
I couldn't see how to edit my previous review, so here is an update to my previous 1 star review.

I received the second set of dual SB4000 subs, set them up, and couldn't be happier with the performance. I'm getting ultra low and rich bass, and it seems effortless on the part of the subs. These work in a seamless fashion with my SVS Ultra Towers. These 2 subs are replacing a single Klispch subwoofer that I had before, and its as if I never had a sub before. I highly recommend the dual set up to produce a full even low frequency stage without any boomy spots in the room.
