Customer Reviews for SVS Prime Wireless SoundBase
This is perfect for my home office. Looks great on my desk and performs noticeably better than the Yamaha receiver I was using previously. I tested this with a few pairs of speakers and it drives just about anything effortlessly. My ears give out before the amp does, with no distortion or clipping at high volumes. The Bluetooth and WiFi connections were very simple and the unit connects every time I go to use it.
A few negatives. My biggest gripe is the volume control. The jump between “0” and the first “notch” is pretty loud. The next step also increases the volume significantly. I find myself turning it down while working and it going to “0”. There needs to be about 5-6 additional levels between notch 0 and 2, especially if using in low level environments (like an office, or at night). The PlayFi app isn’t great, but it does the job; I use Spotify though which works wonderfully through the Spotify app. Because there’s not a power button, the flashing lights (front, internal, and back) all the time is a bit annoying. These are small things compared to the overall build quality, size, and performance of this amazing little unit!
This unit gets the basics right - it sounds really good! Mine is driving a pair of SVS Prime Bookshelf which, as you would expect, are a good match for this amp. It really pushes out some volume and stays composed until it’s louder than I am ever likely to use. Excellent clean, detailed, punchy sound, I would say quite neutral so it works well with many kinds of music. If you want more bass, there is a sub connection, but I haven’t tried it yet. I like that it is a nice compact unit, plastic material, but still good quality, not flimsy at all. The streaming connection whether bluetooth or Play-fi is solid, and I found it easy to use and set up and it found my wi-fi right away even though the room where it is located is the farthest point from my router. Multiple Bluetooth devices can be paired and connect easily.
Really needs a remote or at least a remote app to allow input switching and volume control when using the Aux or optical inputs, and some EQ control would be good. I know this is supposed to be an ‘always ready’ device, but every electrical device should have a power switch, I am happy to leave it powered off until I want to use it.
DTS Play-fi app is at best ‘functional’ at least with an iPhone as the source. It probably makes more sense in a multi-room set up, but the Soundbase is the only Play-fi device I have, so I usually just use Bluetooth to avoid using the app. Seems to work best with Spotify, other services aren’t as well integrated or not supported at all (Apple Music, YouTube Music).
My room is 16 x 25 and this filled the room with concert sound. Tech support is outstanding. Any doubts buy this system. It cannot be matched especially for the price point. One other factor - you can do multi room wireless and it is high end. Expandable.
