Product Information

Pillar of Performance; Stereo to Cinema

Delivering immersive, full-spectrum sound, the Prime Tower Speaker anchors an amazing listening experience. The combination of both sonic accuracy and lively dynamics elevates movies to an immersive experience and highlights the subtle nuances of your music. It is remarkable on its own in a two-channel system and in a home theater, and its voicing seamlessly melds with the other Prime or Ultra speakers in your system. The result: a suspension of reality that takes you to the center of the action — be it a mosh pit or jet-fighter cockpit. Dialogue and vocals are clear and true, and bass grooves and explosions will rock the room.

With its twin 6.5 inch woofers, you don’t need a standalone subwoofer if space won’t allow. Should you have the room — and want the additional depth and dimension a dedicated subwoofer provides — the Prime Tower Speaker pairs well with several SVS subwoofers, like the award-winning SB-2000.

With a detailed aluminum dome tweeter, dedicated midrange driver, and dual long-throw woofers, the Prime Tower Speaker effortlessly cranks out clean, dynamic, and powerful sound. The innovative and sophisticated 3.5-way crossover has different crossover points for each woofer to deliver seamless frequency response with effortless low frequency extension. Translation – awesome bass response and a smooth, seamless transition to the midrange.

SVS took the 3.5-way crossover concept a step further – each woofer has a dedicated and completely separate internal compartment with its own custom port tuning frequency. The result is effortless, deep bass you need to hear in person to fully appreciate. Similarly, the 4.5” midrange driver is mounted in its own dedicated and completely sealed compartment to ensure a smooth, precise, and clear midrange, free from standing wave coloration. All this tech is packed into a handsome and sleek cabinet available in premium-grade piano gloss black or handsome black ash finish.

SVS Drivers Extreme Performance and Uncompromised Fidelity

The proprietary SVS drivers utilize the finest materials and design features to ensure the highest sound quality and performance. The Prime Tower Speaker driver array features a 1” aluminum dome tweeter, a 4.5" midrange driver, and dual 6.5" woofers.

1” Aluminum Dome Tweeter

Light, efficient, and rigid, providing high SPL (Sound Pressure Level) with minimal distortion and the sense of utter transparency, a 1" aluminum dome tweeter deploys a Finite-Element-Analysis (FEA) optimized diffuser to ensure it only has the perfect on-axis and off-axis frequency response. That way, everyone in your listening room gets the best performance. Likewise, since these design traits are also found in the SVS Prime and Ultra speakers, both product lines can blend well with one another while offering that SVS hallmark ‘airy’ presentation and incredibly unveiled highs.

4.5” Midrange Driver

Dedicated to blending with the tweeter and the dual 6.5” woofers, while delivering natural, smooth, and clear vocals, the 4.5 midrange driver features a polypropylene cone that is light and rigid to give a flat frequency response and the SPL necessary to keep up with the other drivers. Like all of the other woofers in the Prime and Ultra series, the 4.5” mid uses an aluminum shorting ring for reduced distortion, and a vented voice coil former to keep the motor assembly cool during high SPL playback.

Dual 6.5” Woofers

SVS built their groundbreaking new 6.5” bass woofers on an all-new cast ABS-fiberglass composite basket for precise component alignment and an inert frame without resonances or added harmonics. Like all of the other drivers in the Prime family, the polypropylene cone is light and rigid to give a flat frequency response and the SPL necessary to keep up with the other drivers. Like all of the other woofers in the Prime and Ultra series, the 6.5” woofers use aluminum shorting rings for reduced distortion, and vented voice coil formers to keep the motor assemblies cool during high SPL playback. For perfect bass extension, each woofer is in its own rear-ported and individually tuned enclosure. This way, each woofer works in symphony to achieve the deepest and cleanest bass possible.

SoundMatch Crossover Intelligently Designed for Your Listening Room

SVS's exclusive SoundMatch crossover sports premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors, and heavy-trace printed circuit boards. All of these high-quality components yield lower distortion, tighter tolerances, better heat dissipation, and all around better sound. The innovative and sophisticated 3.5-way crossover is unique in that each woofer has its own discrete crossover, doubling the number of components used for the bass section, and allowing the woofers to work together without lobing in the vertical axis, which can cause cancellations at the listening area, and instead improves radiated sound power.

These speakers definitely kick!!
I have heard of SVS because of their subwoofers and know a friend that has one. However, when it came time to replace my Sherwood Receiver, I decided to get a Denon AVR-X2800H and wanted to get some good speakers for this unit. I've tinkered with B&W, Paradigm, and other brands but I decided to give the Prime Tower a shot.

I don't regret my decision one whit! These speakers are literally the best bang for the buck. Their profile fits perfectly in my living room and complements the new TV stand I bought. Sonically, I am pleased with how they perform with music and video. They have the right amount of punch and clarity to play the music I listen to (e.g. House, Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, Metal). I have also played "Friday" as it is one of my favorite movies for bass testing (Scene where Deebo knocks out Red and had Funkdoobiest playing in the background is my test point) and they reproduced that flawlessly.

I am now looking to run Zone 2 for my outside speakers and hope that SVS has some outdoor speakers or recommendations.

Excellent performer
Bought a pair of Prime Towers to replace a great but aging pair of Technics SBCR77s for a 2.1 office setup. Paired with a SB2000 Pro - I could not be happier. As was noted by a You Tube review of these by The Cheap Audio Man (a great talent - recommend checking him out) the Primes are very neutral/flat (in a good way) in their response and are very amenable to EQ to suit individual tastes. I use a Yamaha EQ70 to tweak the last touches of what my ears like - and the Primes deliver everything this music junkie musician wants to hear. I have not used any dedicated room EQ (i.e. Dirac) at this point, but will likely do so in the future. Not a pressing issue to my ears at the moment, but as a recovering EE, I know there's always a way to (potentially) improve things. LOL The head end is comprised of a Parasound NC 200 Pre & vintage HCA1500A amp, streaming via Bluetooth LDAC codec to a Topping D90SE DAC from an Astell & Kern DAP. I also installed Soundpath isolation feet on the Primes and the SB 2000 Pro. My highest recommendation for these – they really do help bring out the best that these speakers & sub have to offer. I also use the Soundpath on a very large 20-year-old Velodyne sub in my main listening room as well – it improved an already great sound. Not snake oil to my ears. The Primes are in a fairly large open den/office area with vaulted ceilings that also doubles as a play area for darts and exercising. At first glance one would think this beyond the capabilities of these sleek towers (I was admittedly skeptical). One would be wrong in this assumption. They are ~10 feet apart, toed in ~30 degrees, 18” out from the wall. As expected with most if not all rear-ported designs, closer in, things become a bit boomy – at least to my ears. This is not a slam against the Primes – just a bit of basic physics at work. The Primes have good low end extension on their own - but depending on your head end, room size & personal taste, a sub will fill in the last parts of the bottom end. As always - YMMV - just my .02. Fit & finish are top notch to my eyes, and they pass the knuckle wrap test with flying colors. They look great with the grilles off, but I love the look with them on. Sound difference to my ears is non-existent – but that is for your ears & eyes to decide. Also - break-in is a real thing in my experience. With the Primes, I found that as good as they were out of the box, they really opened up after about 20 hours. As has been said in several pro reviews and which I can attest to – they love power & sing with the more you give them. The HCA1500A is conservatively rated at 205W/Ch @8 ohms, and all I can say is things can & do rock with satisfying clarity & slam in our house – but they also handle the subtle & all things in between exceptionally well. And last but certainly not least - dealing with SVS has been hands-down one of the best experiences I've ever had. They have made a lifelong customer out of me. If you're considering a pair of the Primes - I whole-heartedly recommend them with zero reservation. As Randy The Cheap Audio Man says – sit back, listen & fill your heart with happiness! The Primes in my setup do just that - and at the end of the day, isn’t that what it’s all about? If for some reason your ears don't like them - you have 45 days to send them back at no cost. It really is a no-brainer IMHO. A huge BRAVO to you SVS! There will be more of your products in our home in the coming months & years ahead.

There is always "More".
These benefit from as much clean power as your budget can buy...as the surrounds are quite stiff SVS style. I stepped up to AQ Edison outlets, AQ-2 power strip and Pine Tree Audio Ribbon Cables ahead of a Sony 145WPC AVR. Towers sound neutral if a bit dry at first with almost sealed box tight bass one foot off the back wall, compressed midrange at higher volumes above 90db/1M, but all opened up after a week of break in. Fit finish above weight class in piano black. Excellent spikes or rubber feet choices. Perfect for smaller HT rooms as did not overload mine allowing my 12 inch sub to fill in, or just turn it off. They accurately filled the room with clean sounds in 2CH and went to awesome with the Prime Center in 7.1 HT mode. Within 2 weeks I went right up to the Pinnacles for More. Deeper with better mids and expansive soundstage with the same footprint, same tight tuning and rock-solid enclosure. Ony caveat with the price increase is for better binding posts like Polk Lsim series or Tannoy XT series offer. Flawless Customer Service for easy return picked up at my house.

Great towers
Was a little worried that the smaller drivers...my coppers were 8"...would cost me on the low end, boy was I wrong...these things sound great. These are part of a 5.2.2 system that is made up of purely SVS prime products and I couldn't be happier with the way the whole thing works together

Great Speakers
Great experience - good price, fast shipment and high-end speaker quality. They look great and sound incredible. My wife vetoed my ADS 810's for our new townhouse because of their appearance. I couldn't hear the Prime Towers locally so I took a chance based on user reviews. I bought them direct from the SVS web site. I use them in a 2-channel system for music and power them with an Adcom GFA-545. Everyone is blown away and asks where is the subwoofer. I can't say enough positive things about these speakers.
