Exquisite Contrast, Perfect Blacks

Sony’s OLED TV is like nothing you’ve ever seen before with truly exceptional black, shadow, and color. Over 8 million self-illuminating pixels are precisely and individually controlled by the X1 Extreme processor creating exquisite, unprecedented contrast.

Pure Black, Perfect Vision

Sony's OLED pixels work individually and can be turned off completely to deliver absolute black. This level of supreme contrast reveals detail, depth, textures, and colors for a view that is stunningly real.

Uncover the Detail with 4K HDR

High Dynamic Range (HDR) will change the way you look at TV. Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color, and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most life-like picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail.

Everything Should Look Like 4K HDR

Sony's newly developed 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme outperforms their conventional 4K Processor X1 with 40% more real-time image processing power. It takes everything you watch and improves it to near 4K HDR quality. Object-based HDR Remaster technology can detect, analyze and optimize each object in the picture individually to adjust the overall contrast for a more natural and realistic picture on screen.

A Revolution in TV Sound

Unlike most TV speakers, sound comes to you from the entire screen, immersing you in exciting new entertainment experiences.

Vibrant Colors, Smooth Gradations

Only when surrounded by true black do colors seem really vibrant. Colors are as rich and vivid as nature’s own, thanks to the TRILUMINOS Display with more shades of red, green, and blue than ever before. You’ll enjoy rich, authentic images that evoke the emotion in every scene. And, 4K HDR Super Bit Mapping reveals thousands of shades and gradations of light, for sunsets as bright and clear as real life.

360 Degrees of Sophistication

No distractions. This OLED TV is more than just beautiful. It's designed so that the stand and speakers virtually disappear—appearing as if it's floating—leaving only the brilliance of its picture. The screen is edged with a slim 4-side frame that maximizes the viewing area.

A Genius TV, A Smarter Home

Find all the entertainment you can dream of, faster than ever. From movies and TV shows to thousands of apps, Sony’s Android TV brings you everything in an instant. Cast your favorite apps with Google Cast, and Voice Search helps you find the entertainment you want. And with Google Home compatibility, simply voice-control your TV and ask it to do things, like play your favorite YouTube videos.

Upscale to a More Natural Picture

The difference is clear. You’ll see life-like detail and stunning clarity, no matter what you're watching. Two powerful image improvement databases work together, dynamically improving images in real time. 4K X-Reality PRO upscales images to near 4K clarity, while a second database cleans the picture and reduces on-screen noise. Every single pixel is enhanced beautifully by the powerful 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme.

Live TV, No Annual Contract

PlayStation Vue now available on Android TV. Enjoy live TV streaming with no annual contract and no surprise fees. Experience premium content, including sports, news, and more from your favorite networks.

Motionflow Keeps the Action Smooth

I bought this XBR-55A1E because it was OLED , because the superior video processing for upgrading vintage resolutions 1080i and because Sony promised to bring Dolby Vision as a firmware upgrade before the end of 2017
The first two features are a big success. No I hope Sony will keep its promise

Incredible picture Terrible Android software
So I bought this TV as it was supposed to be the mature OLED after coming from the Kuro plasma. Having had the LG last year and returning it, I was pleased that the Sony’s motion processing had corrected all the soap opera fact that was in the LG.

For some reason Sony elected to use android TV as it software and it’s a nightmare. There is this thing called Samba interactive TV, which you cannot turn off as if you force shut it, a warning will appear on your screen every 10 seconds so I actually had to turn on to get rid of the notifications. This is the sort of thing that really p iss es me off having no control of your device and being forced to run junk software that is collecting information from me.

I Must Admit - Best Picture I've Ever Seen!
Had this TV about 30 days now, and see Sony wants me to rave on it. Very well.
Out of the box -which was the "Heaviest Hurdle" due to the weight of its Stand! I also don't know what is inside the huge boxed portion in the middle behind the TV? Coming from a wall Mounted High End Samsung 55" 4K TV, I was shocked to see the Sony Mounting Holes (For the Wall Mount Device) so incredibly smaller than the Samsung, but after several tries I got it mounted and level.

Connections are a breeze with all pertinent HDMI ports, etc. (Caveat-If you own this TV or any other OLED Device, going a Product Forum ASAP! The actual manual for this TV is wasted paper IMHO. Get on a Forum to learn Which HDMI Ports TRULY produce the best picture quality (Not 1 as I thought) Learn how to use your Picture Settings from many others who have put this OLED technology thru every test imaginable! Sony even has a great Community where you truly learn things from. I use the AVS Forum where the thread on this TV .

Since I wall mounted mine, I cannot talk about its 30 pound stand, or why thats needed to support this very thin TV (Except for that big box area behind) One thing I really hope is that, whomever you bought your Sony OLED from told you that you'll need some form of "Android" Cell Phone Account? Once my Gmail info was entered, the TV puts you thru the entire Setup Process in a very simple manner that a layman can understand. Audio Visual Tech folk will love that you can use all your other components with it just as easy, if not easier than other TVs. As stated above, and I do admit it could be considered "Hearsay" I did read that HDMI Ports 2-3 are those which present the best picture quality. Well, that and whatever it is you intend to watch on this beauty too! I use Verizon Fios which is better than some.

The Sony Remote is actually something I use quite often, despite being a HUGE Harmony One fan (Though extinct) The remote enables you to hit all your desired settings for picture & sound quality (Will come back to Sound later if they give me room) All finite settings and picture modes appear on the right side of TV. Using the "Home" button on their remote you can easily scroll thru these, enter account passwords, bring up the Google App Store, and also use their specially featured "Voice Technology" by simply pushing a white button on top of the Remote. I found this just as useful as typing on Google on your cell. (I truly wish you could use this voice feature to help you navigate the TV itself. Such as-"Change to Vivid Mode" or "Open Netflix)-Which there is actually a Red Button for!..All your typical, Amazon Video and tons of other Google Stuff I wish I could remove too. You can actually put them in order of appearance on this "Home Screen" which Thought was cool. 2Another feature they showcase is "Samba TV" which I chose NOT to use by "Unchecking" the radio button on this mode. BE SURE to read all about that one before committing! If your'e just into your Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and a few other Apps (Like on your Cell) than this Remote & TV get you there easily! Also using the "Home Button" They have some very helpful Videos that pop up which play all sorts of "How To's" and such. The "Action Menu" on remote is where you will spend most of your time! This is where ALL the TVs settings are. PLAY WITH THEM ALL and try to do this watching different things = Dark Movies (HDR Stuff) Football Games (Vivid Colors) and try tweaking them ALL, because you can ALWAYS hit "Reset" and you are back to a Clean Slate again! There actually is a "Back" Button on the Remote too which they no doubt configured it to be in the perfect spot your thumb rests (If you are a Right Handed of course) So, IMHO the Remote gets 4 Stars, but the Harmony One is my Go To Remote for EVERYTHING in my AV System for sure!

**On "Sound" - I Highly Suggest using a reputable AV System & External Speakers, but that just my personal POV. However, I have read that the Sound Quality on these new OLEDS is out of this world! That it resonates from the "Screen Itself" which is unreal. One day I think I will try using it, just to see (and hear) what Sony did.

If you are still reading this, I bet you will ask yourself the same exact question I did when I finally got my new Sony 4k OLED Creme De La Creme TV working!! Why don't I see that same picture quality I saw while staring at it inside the store?? Well, I asked this to the place I got mine (A High End section worthy to be named after a "tree or shrub with large, typically creamy-pink, waxy flower widely grown as ornamental trees") The Actual Sony Rep was there the day I stood drooling at the 65" OLED Model. Of course he went into all these extremely technical variations on why & how Sony can produce the best picture and sound quality on the planet. The video loops they use are derived from cameras that take the most incredible shots, processors that clean out things we don't know exist, and replicate the experience of standing right next to that Drag Racing Car - imagine what that Sound would be!! lol
The thing is, we will NOT be able to replicate that picture quality in our homes, even though this TV is hands down better than the LG in my opinion. I bet you looked back and forth at Sony & LG before making the choice to buy this one OR if you are reading this novel Im writing here BEFORE making that purchase,, Take this Note:!!!

Wherever you go to witness this TV in person, ask the Rep to play the exact same loop on BOTH the LG & Sony OLEDs at the same time!! Matter of fact, ask them to use something with DARK backgrounds -"The Black Knight" or again "Pelham 123" - Go to the LG Model, and take mental notes of EVERY detail you can think of. Have them play that same scene over over on the Sony TV and go over those same mental notes. Then (This is what made my decision right here!) Have them "Freeze" BOTH TVs on the same movie but something lighter-such as city streets. Look at every window and its reflection, street signs, pebbles on sidewalk or better yet on a rooftop walking back n forth between these two Highly Proficient and Beautiful Masterpieces! I'm Dead Serious folks....THAT is EXACTLY how I made the choice to purchase this unbelievably awesome Sony and now Im Loving it !!
Granted, I am no where as "Tekkie" as others, but I do love the feeling of when you personally put several high end Audio Visual Components together (Using the best HDMI 2.1 Cables, etc) and once all is connected - firing this TV up for the first time!

I watched BOTH NFL Championship Games this last weekend (BTW- using the Remote, there is a "Live Football" setting which you can almost see individual blades of grass on the field! I loved using that Remote to tweak their uniform colors, and how well you can even see the fans in background too. Hailing from New England, I must say "Go Patriots!" and will most definitely have remote in hand during that game!

If my review helps just ONE person take the plunge on this Sony 55" OLED or even better, the 65" Model--Then I have "Paid it Forward" in life. Isn't that what we all should do with our lives regardless of anything? Pay It Forward!!

Semper Fidelis

Ps. PLEASE ACCEPT & POST THIS REVIEW SONY!!!I

Outstanding picture and sound!
I struggled with the decision to buy this TV vs. the competition (LG) because of the price difference since I consider myself a value conscious buyer. The factor that tipped the balance in favor of the SONY was their super fast X1 processor and superior upscaling. Now that I've been using the set for about a month I'm really happy I spent the extra $.

This set is truly remarkable! Amazing colors, incredible resolution, out of this universe sound and seamless motion display. I'm a soccer fan and it's been a bit difficult to focus on the games because the picture is so glorious I get distracted by the details. When first released some reviewers complained about android being slow on this unit but I haven't had that problem so I suspect Sony fixed that problem.

I could go on and on about this TV and how happy I am but I think you get the idea. If you enjoy the experience provided by superior technology in the medium as much as the content you have to give this product an honest evaluation. You won't be sorry.
