Impeccably stiff, from upper lip…

Rega has been perfecting tonearm engineering for nearly 40 years, with two broad goals – frictionless movement horizontally and vertically, with no free play in the arm. The P3 turntable’s RB330 arm approaches both ideals with a precision bearing assembly matched to a one-piece aluminum tubular tonearm that distributes its low mass to eliminate resonance. The whole mechanism is braced not once, but twice, from tonearm to central bearing, for overall stability.

…Right down to the bum

Those who expect turntables to carry some heft might be surprised to pick up a Rega. The whole package, while just 13 lbs., is engineered to minimize external vibration and resonance. The plinth (basically, the base) is formed of high-gloss laminated acrylic, fitted with newly-designed low-vibration feet. The package is quiet, sturdy, and attractive enough to fit with any modern décor.

And at the tip of the tonearm…

You’ll find Rega’s own heralded Elys 2 phono cartridge pre-fitted and tweaked for top performance, which trims the unpacking-to-playing lag considerably. The Elys 2, like nearly everything Rega makes, is hand-assembled and tested at the company’s Southend-on-Sea, Essex facility. Its precision-wound coils are assembled on custom jigs, then every cartridge is tested for two days to ensure the highest quality. The P3 and Elys 2 make a perfect match.

Driven for accuracy

The belt-drive turntable (actually, the original Planars helped popularize belt drive systems) helps reduce noise (or “rumble”) transfer from the frequency-locked 24-volt synchronous motor system. The belt wraps around a redesigned polycarbonate sub-platter for enhanced accuracy and stiffness.

Polished off with glass

A floating-glass platter with polished white edge, topped with a felt mat, rests above the sub-platter, and the entire assembly spins effortlessly around a central hub with stainless spindle and enhanced, compressionless brass bearings. Keep in mind that the P3 is truly a “manual” turntable – which means, to shift speeds from 33 to 45 rpm, you lift the glass platter off and shift the belt along its pulley.
