Metal: Conductor quality is critically important for any audio or video cable. Pipeline’s High-Purity, High-Performance Copper (HPPC) has fewer impurities for improved clarity and naturalness. For the higher signal speed demands of digital cables such as HDMI and USB, Pipeline’s Silver-Clad Copper (SCC) provides exceptional performance by adding a layer of fine silver on the surface of the conductor.
Stranded vs. Solid: In addition to the harshness caused by bare strands contacting each other, the magnetic fields of the various strands constantly interacting leads to a confused and “out-of-focus” sonic presentation. The Concentric-Conductor Construction (CCC) of Pipeline speaker cable nearly eliminates these problems. Cable Geometry: Any cable with two or more individual conductors (positive and negative paths) requires that special attention be paid to the physical relationship between the conductors. Specific cable application will dictate conductor geometry and such parameters such as capacitance, inductance, and magnetic interaction. PipeLine uses carefully implemented controlled-construction techniques to ensure that properly optimized and consistent geometry are maintained throughout the cable design.
“Skin-Effect”: The well-recognized (but often misunderstood) phenomenon of “skin-effect” refers to the phenomenon of high frequency energy travelling primarily on the surface of a conductor. Skin-effect also encourages current to jump from strand to strand, causing harshness to the sound.
Insulation: The insulation surrounding all conductors is critical because the positive and negative conductors have to be kept apart at very precisely controlled distances. The downside is that whenever current is present, insulation has some impact on the cable’s performance. In order to limit any negative effect (distortion), Pipeline uses optimized low-loss, low-distortion insulation for all analog interconnects, speaker cables, and power cables. For high-speed digital and video interconnects Pipeline chooses to use solid Polyethylene insulation, which ensures consistent geometric relationship between conductors, an essential element to maintaining constant impedance over the entire length of the cable.
