Product Information

The 2M Series of cartridges is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Ortofon's philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound.

The name 2M was selected from several ideas. Ortofon wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember, and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

The 2M series of cartridges features Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.

They have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

The new 2M headshell is a practical and elegant solution for customers who wish direct and easy mounting and replacement on their tonearm. The combination of 2M Headshell and 2M Series cartridge adds unique distinction to the turntable!

Ortofon 3M Red
Nice cartridge---sounds great. In retrospect I might have gone with the 2M Blue--I will upgrade to blue stylus when the time comes.

Love this plug and play setup with the Red
Love this plug and play setup with the Red. Its so easy, I just bought the stylus, cartridge and head shell already assembled, and simply put it on the tone-arm, check for the right weight, and poof. SOUNDS AWESOME. Honestly for the money, its harder to find anything cheaper and better with this kind of warmth and detail.

Will this fit on an Audio-Technica LP120 tonearm without the need for re-aligning the stylus?
A shopper on Aug 6, 2018
The 2M Red PNP II will replace your standard headshell with no other adjustment.
Are there any functional or sonic differences between this product and a 2M Red mounted on an Ortofon SH-4 headshell?
A shopper on Jun 4, 2020
Thanks for your question. The Plug and Play and the Red on the SH4 are functionally identical. Assuming the Red on the SH4 is mounted with precision tonearm balance, cartridge height, overhang, and tracking force it should have no sonic difference compared to the Plug and Play version.
Will this fit on a vintage Dual CS 5000 stock arm?
A shopper on Feb 18, 2019
No, this is not compatible with the table you mention.
I am looking to 'upgrade' from a Stanton 881s due to lack of new needles. Would this be as equal or better choice? Thanks
A shopper on Jan 3, 2019
While sound quality evaluation is very individual, and depending on what you're listening for, they should be better than the 881
