Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8000F Overview

The RP-8000F floorstanding tower from Klipsch’s revamped Reference Premiere line embodies the best of what the legendary company has learned about acoustical engineering over the decades. A new-design 1-inch titanium linear-travel tweeter in a vented enclosure fires out through Klipsch’s iconic 90-degree Tractrix horn for better dispersion and rock-solid localization of instruments and effects. The big dual 8-inch woofers have cones of Klipsch’s trademarked copper Cerametallic material for bass extension with high efficiency and low distortion. The cabinet, available in your choice of finish, is made of top-notch furniture-grade materials with magnetic grille mounts for an attractive presentation in any home environment. Combined with your choice of surrounds, center-channel speaker and subwoofer from the revamped RP line, the RP-8000F brings true theatrical excitement right into your living room.

The trademarked Tractrix horn

A common Klipsch element from the early days to today and across its speaker line, is the horn. Flared 90 degrees vertically and horizontally, the unique Tractrix horn adds acoustic amplification to the high-frequency driver (a second Tractrix horn acts as a rear bass port). That not only makes speakers such as the RP-8000F highly efficient but also directs the highs right into the sweet spot of the listening area for superior imaging. The 90-by-90 Tractrix horn in the RP-8000F, molded of compressed silicon composite and fitted with a phase plug to reduce resonances, places you in the middle of a movie’s action or at center stage with your favorite music.

A tweaked tweeter

At the center of that Tractrix horn is Klipsch’s latest tweeter design, a 1-inch titanium-diaphragm driver for incredible lightness and rigidity, with high efficiency and low distortion. The LTS (linear travel suspension) technology maximizes the piston motion, and all-new vented housing reduces the reflected (or standing) waves that can compromise performance.

Those iconic copper cones

How do you know you’re looking at Klipsch speakers – even before you listen? Not just the Tractrix horn, but also the emblematic copper-colored cones are your cue. The two nig 8-inch woofers in the RP-8000F are formed of Klipsch’s proprietary spun-copper Cerametallic compound, which adds stiffness while subtracting weight for top-notch transient reproduction. And the rear Tractrix horn bass-reflex port strengthens the bass even more. That means the RP-8000F reaches way down to 32 Hz, with low distortion.

Ready for bi-amplification

If your surround-sound receiver has a couple extra amp channels lying around, the RP-8000F can put them to good use. High-quality binding posts allow separate amp connections for low- and high-frequency drivers, for more effortless reproduction.

A truly dynamic range

Klipsch’s horn-loading design, combined with ultra-light and ultra-responsive drivers, means that speakers such as the RP-8000F reproduce the full dynamic range required of today’s movie soundtracks – and can easily rock out the house loud and clear. Coupled with a rugged structure that can handle up to 600 watts peak power, the RP-8000s play well with virtually all modern home-theater surround receivers and amplifiers.

Built to blend in – or stand out

The cabinetry of the RP-8000F is made of heavy, solid MDF material for minimal internal resonances. The aluminum feet help reduce room resonance. The ebony and walnut finishes are scratch resistant, and the optional piano-black premium cabinet is hand-sanded and polished to a gloss. Combined with the unique look of the Tractrix horn, copper speakers and trim rings, laser-etched logo and satin-painted front baffle, the RP-8000F makes a striking statement in any modern home, or fades into the furnishings when you attach the attractive and flexible grille.

WWS: What we say

Klipsch speakers offer “great bang for the buck (and) deliver an exciting sound for both movies and music. The high-efficiency design gives your amplifier a break, so it doesn’t have to work as hard – which means less of chance of distortion at higher volumes. I feel like I’m at a rock concert when I have the opportunity to crank them!” Dave Sailer, World Wide Stereo product specialist (and proud Klipsch owner)

Blown Away
I had a pair of Wharfedale 11.4 front speakers but got talked in to the RP-8000F which are 2 way speakers, the wharfedales were 3 way. OMG, when the Klipsch Speakers were in place and I ran a couple of SACD's thru' them, and a few Bluray movies, 5.1 etc, I felt the floor shaking and this is being run through my Pioneer VSX-934 Receiver and my Pioneer UDP-LX 500 Multidisc Player. I absolutely love these and rate them massively. I do actually run a Klipsch Sub, but they don't really need it but I already had it so all good. Buy these! They will annoy your neighbours.

Perform well above their pay grade
Paired up with a very high end 45 Watt per channel tube amplifier with stunning results. Very happy with them. They took at least 300 hours of break in to really wow me. Although I was more than happy with them out of the box, now they sound absolutely gorgeous.

Reference Premier means luxury.
Finally got the pair to finish the set. These floor speakers are the pinnacle of any home theater system. When paired with the Reference Premier line speakers these eclipse what most have experienced in their local theaters. Its enough to say any home theater enthusiasts will enjoy having these in their setup. The sound quality and bass from these speakers bring the most out of any media you play. From music, games, and of course movies the sound and impact of these speakers are pure emersion. Anyone without a unlimited budget will hesitate to place a purchase for the pair, but in the long run having these arrive will put any doubt to rest. Placing them in their spot in the entertainment room and connecting them to the theater system will have you grinning with excitement.

Great speakers
I purchased these speakers about a year ago, and I’m so glad I did. Before I pulled the trigger, I was thinking that I would probably need a sub. No way. The low end is just perfect with these speakers. The highs and the mids are great as well. The highs are not harsh in any way, and the mids and lows are very warm.
One thing I have noticed is that acoustic guitars, horns, and vocals sound phenomenal.
If you have any doubts about the 8000’s, get them.

Awesome Speakers
Just finished setting up my first Klipsch 5.1 home theater last night. Two RP-8000s, RP-504c, two RP-402s, and an RP-120sw, powered by a Yamaha A2A. I watched the first Jurassic Park, and let me tell you, it felt like I was going down the T-Rex’s throat during the paddock breakout scene. Holy cow. I’m blown away by this setup. You are as good as there!!!

Addition to my previous review, these speakers are really happy at 6 ohms impedance, along with all the RP series, 8 ohms is good but it seems in my opinion 6 ohms brings the RP series to life!!

Where are these speakers made?
A shopper on Nov 29, 2018
The RP series of Klipsch speakers, such as these, are built in China. The Heritage line of speakers, however, is still built in Hope, AK.
What is the difference between the reference and reference premier?
A shopper on Nov 24, 2019
The Premier designation refers to improved technology vented tweeter and new square tweeter horn geometry.
How does this speaker present orchestral classical music? Operatic music?
Hazzant on Nov 29, 2021
Thanks for your question. The RP-8000F do a really fine job reproducing orchestral music. Given their size, placement in the room is very important regarding dispersion and soundstage. Experiment with positioning relative to distance from side and back walls as well as toe-in to get the stage width and depth just right. They are very dynamic and do well at higher volumes with a clean amplifier with great dynamic headroom.
