Klipsch RF-7 III Floorstanding Speaker Overview

Klipsch makes some of the most popular speakers sold on the market today, and for good reason.  The company’s attention to detail and choice of high-quality parts is flat-out impressive. That’s why we’re ecstatic about Klipsch’s latest addition to its Reference speaker lineup.  The all-new RF-7 III Floorstanding Speaker is a true sonic monster, representing an upgrade to the highly-regarded Reference II series. Its dual-chambered cabinet allows two 10” drivers and matching ports to work independent from one another, while a newly designed 1.75” titanium compression driver harnesses an enhanced phase plug geometry for pinpoint high frequencies.

This is a serious audiophile speaker that can handle both stereo and home theater duty with total class.

A relentless pursuit of better sound

Klipsch never quits.  A look back at the company’s lengthy history reveals endless innovation and refinement, even when previous models delivered class-leading performance.  And with the Reference Series, Klipsch has established a level of quality that’s nearly impossible to beat. The all-new RF-7 III Floorstanding Speaker is the company’s new crown jewel, loaded with enhanced components for utterly spectacular sound, marking one of the company’s finest achievements to date!

Hand-built craftsmanship

Klipsch handcrafts its RF-7 III Floorstanding Speaker cabinets in Hope, Arkansas, finishing them with furniture grade wood veneers and astounding attention to detail.  In fact, each speaker features a rear-mounted plaque signed by its factory assembler.

The RF-7 III’s cabinet contains separate chambers that allow each of the 10” spun copper Cerametallic woofers to work independently from the other.  This isolation eliminates standing waves inside the enclosure, but also improves the linear movement of both drive systems for pure uncolored sound.

Redesigned horn technology

Horn technology is one of the hallmarks of a Klipsch speaker, and the RF-7 III Floorstanding Speaker introduces an all-new design.  The system utilizes a new 1.75” titanium diaphragm compression driver with a new phase plug crafted for improved phase coherency and linearity at high frequencies.  The outer compressed molded rubber Tractrix Horn features a circular throat paired to a square mouth. Its design delivers high frequencies that sound less harsh, carry more detail, and have pinpoint directionality as they pour into your room.

Cast frame woofer design

There’s no mistaking the look of Klipsch’s gorgeous spun copper Cerametallic woofers, something the company says represents the pinnacle of Klipsch driver design (our ears certainly approve!).  The RF-7 III sports upgraded driver materials, such as a heavy-duty cast aluminum frame, that help to preserve resonant-free playback. And the driver’s native cone materials are exceptionally rigid and lightweight, creating a system cable of powerfully deep distortion-free bass.

Ensure great sound

While the RF-7 III floorstander is an incredibly efficient speaker, you’ll unlock its true dynamic range capabilities when you mate it to a powerful amplifier.  Audio source’s AMP 3120VS Stereo Power Amplifier can deliver an impressive 150 Watts per channel while the Marantz MM7025 2 Channel Home Theater Power Amplifier offers 140 Watts of performance.  And if you’d like to introduce audiophile-grade high-end flair, consider the uber powerful NAD Electronics M22 Hybrid Digital Power Amplifier.

And for a powerful home theater experience, add a Klipsch’s RC-64 III Center Channel for true reference grade center channel performance!

Very Happy!!
I love to chill to my 80's music load every now and then. Its amazing how the RF-7 III sound. You won't be disappointed! I matched them to a Marantz 8020 A/V receiver. I can't wait to get the new 16" Klipsch base I ordered.

Clear-Loud-Sound - with Bass
I purchased the RF7-iiis to replace the Klipsch RP-8000F tower speakers.
The RF-7iiis can play louder (with somewhat more bass out-put) over the RP-8000Fs. - both towers can play very clear sound.

Great sound, but for flagship needs some improveme
Everything is great except the tiny little rubber feet included are kind of a joke for such a large speaker. Very disappointing for your flag ship speakers. And the input panel on the rear is the cheap looking plastic from lower quality line of speakers instead of the very quality set up from the Reference Premiere speakers. Very disappointing & just really don't see how you could put out a "flag ship" product with relatively cheap equipment from your lower lines of products.

Amazing
I have a 9.6.4 setup. My friends listened to it and they are blown away. I have 6 REL Predator subs in two stacks of 3. Simply amazing.

I do have the front 3 powered by an emotiva DR3 amp. I believe that’s over 450watts per channel, but I’m not positive. But I would highly recommend a dedicated amp to get the most out of these. The headroom will blow up your room and ears with distortion free musical bliss.

I’m not sure if I like the rf7 ii or iii’s better. I have both. But supposedly the iii’s are a little less bright. But I like the iii’s sound also, so not sure.

Best speakers I've ever purchased!
I purchased these (and the RF-64III center after hours and hours of research on different speaker brands. I debated about the highly acclaimed Klipsch 8000f instead of these but there isn't much difference in physical size (weight is a different story!!). I could not listen to them beforehand so I had to rely on other reviewer and dealer opinions. I could not find a bad review about the RF7III other than price so I pulled the trigger and went big. They are monster sized and weigh 100 lbs each, so be prepared for a workout! The sound is so impressive that I find myself listening to music for hours at time which has not been my practice previous. The detail in the music is alarming compared to what I was getting before. I'm hearing so many things in music that I never heard before! It's like rediscovering your music all over again. Bass is crisp, punchy and I don't know if I really need my subwoofer anymore? My wife (who could care less about speakers) said smiling, "these are so clear I can hear people walking in the background on my show, it's like being in the movies!" She has never commented on any of my speaker purchases before other than if they were pretty. Never having had Klipsch speakers before I figured it was time and now I have probably bought my last set of speakers. Another benefit is how efficient they are even at low volume. My receiver (Onkyo RZ820) can be turned down about 10db (on my readout) to be at the same volume as my old speakers (Goldenear Triton 3). I guess I should list the speakers I have previously had so there is a frame of reference to my opinion: Polk LSiM 703, Def Tech Mythos ST, Goldenear Triton 3. All of these speakers were good but not at the RF7III level, at least to my listening preference. I'm not an audiophile but I do know what I like and this is it!! I wish I would have tried Klipsch years ago. If you can swing the price for these you will not be disappointed!!

Sound with Emotion
Speakers are currently part of a 7.1 setup front (L/C/R), surround, surround back and subwoofer - all Klipsch. Fronts are RF-7IIIs (bi-amped), center is a Synergy C-3, Surrounds are my former fronts (Synergy F-3s), Surround back (Synergy S-3s), and the subwoofer is a RW-12D. AVR is an Onkyo TX-RZ1100.

When listening to music I am generally using Amazon Music HD, sending 24bit 192KHz PCM audio over HDMI to the receiver. Listening in 2.1 mode. I am certain that everyone will compliment these speakers for the thunderous low end, but what I love the most is the detail and balance - clarity across the whole range. The horns provide vibrant highs/mids and the 10s provide a depth to music I have heretofore not experienced. Flat out the most amazing thing next to live music. From classical to jazz to rock, hip/hop, and EDM these speakers handle it all with aplomb. Want some good examples. Listen to some of these to really gain an appreciation:
Muddy Waters - My Home is in the Delta
Etta James - At Last
Fleetwood Mac - Landslide
Neil Young - Old Man
Pearl Jam - Yellow Leadbetter
Counting Crows - Omaha
The White Buffalo - House of the Rising Sun
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dark Necessities
Disturbed - The Sound of Silence
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan
Rogues - Queen of Lost Scots
The Moog - These City Lights
From amazing vocal depth to detailed instrumentation - just all around amazing. I could add many more to this list. Have tested a few movies so far, but a few of my favorites are Transformers, The Matrix, Wall-E, and Saving Private Ryan.
Bottom line, I always look forward to firing these up and just immersing myself in the audio.
