KLH Ames 2-Way Bookshelf Loudspeakers Overview
The Ames, KLH’s smallest two-way bookshelf system, honors that heritage at an entry-level price. And the Ames hearkens back to one of audio’s earliest innovations – the acoustic suspension speaker. Coaxing unexpectedly big sound out of tiny boxes, acoustic suspension tightens and extends the bass response of even mini-monitors to match that of larger systems. And the Ames delivers sonic purity across its frequency range, with custom-designed woofer/midrange drivers of woven Kevlar, crossover circuitry of the highest-quality components, anodized aluminum dome tweeter, and solid, sturdy MDF cabinetry available in two finishes. The new KLH is so confident, the company offers an unheard-of 10 year warranty. Compact, attractive and sonically satisfying enough to serve in any room, the Ames exemplifies KLH’s dedication to value, and World Wide is proud to be an inaugural dealer for the company’s entire new speaker line.

From the heartland, from the heart
You may not recognize the brand, but KLH is one of the most hallowed nameplates in the history of home audio. Purchased by longtime industry execs in early 2017, KLH is back with a full line of newly designed speakers – and a rededication to the company’s original mission to make the audiophile experience affordable for everyone. The new KLH, located in the USA’s heartland – Noblesville, Indiana – pays homage to the brand by building incredible value into every speaker. The Ames starts with superior materials – woven Kevlar cone with die-cast aluminum basket, anodized aluminum dome, brushed aluminum faceplates, MDF cabinetry with satin finish, top-quality crossover components – and adds in decades of engineering and design experience, to deliver a speaker that looks as good as it sounds, and sounds better than some far more expensive competitors.
Bookshelf speakers that bring the bass
Among the many innovations popularized by audio pioneer Henry Kloss – the K of the original KLH – one of the most influential and enduring is the acoustic suspension speaker. Up to the early ’60s, to get big sound you needed a big speaker. But Kloss helped turn that notion on its head by sealing smaller speaker cabinets in such a way that tightened and extended the bass to surprisingly low frequencies. That’s why even a mini-monitor such as the Ames can deliver bass that belies its diminutive size.
A peek behind the cabinet...
The Ames starts with a four-inch low/midrange driver of Kevlar for strength and stiffness, suspended via flexible, durable butyl rubber surround in a powder-coated aluminum basket with oversized magnet. The 1-inch dome tweeter is formed of anodized aluminum for crystal clarity, linear response and maximum dispersion. The crossover circuitry is built with the highest-grade components, and the components are all tied together with braided tinsel wiring. Together the Ames delivers a frequency response that is flat from 60Hz-23kHz (+/- 3db).
Looks great covered or uncovered
The cabinet is finished in your choice of white or black gloss. And the magnetic clasps for the grille are hidden, so if you prefer your speaker systems naked, the Albany’s fully finished front panel with brushed aluminum faceplates will do you proud. For smaller rooms, or as surround speakers in larger home theaters, in any combination of KLH’s new speakers, the Ames delivers unexpected reproduction far beyond its size and price.
Henry Kloss’s legacy
Back in the 1950s and early ’60s, a band of engineers revolutionized the audio world and ushered in the golden age of high fidelity. Among them, possibly the most revered and warmly remembered is Kloss, an inveterate tinkerer and serial entrepreneur who started such influential companies as AR, Advent, Cambridge Soundworks and Tivoli Audio. Kloss’ many influential innovations include acoustic-suspension speakers, projection TVs, tape recorders with Dolby noise reduction, full range electrostatic speaker panels, and table radios with incredible performance. To honor his memory and dedication to the highest fidelity, the revamped KLH has named its new speaker line for streets on and around Kloss’ beloved Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge, Mass.
