Speakers that punch above their weight
I have onwed many speakers, chiefly are high end English speakers. English loudspeakers are great for musics, but when you need the punch from a movie or a concert, you definitely need JBLs. Im currently building a 7.2 channel system with all JBL studios. These speakers brings the absolute detail out of any DTS concert I have. I am hearing new details that Ive never heard before. This is an absolute recommended product

Another! great speaker model
My renewed interested with JBL speakers started when I bought two pair of small bookshelf speakers for our bookstore. At the time I thought they were very good, but they eventually *vastly* exceeded my expectations - those speakers rock! Well, for the Studio 230's I went to great lengths to find a showroom that would play them for me - this time my expectations were much more ambitious: defeat the $1500 a pair Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) CM5's by performing as well for less than 25% of the cost. Here I am to tell the world that the Studio 230's met that challenge!

Outstanding speakers
These Studio 230 speakers sound outstanding. I am very impressed with their excellent range from a deep full base to a clear and smooth high end. I have the Loft 40's and was satisfied with them until I heard the 230's. The 230's sound fuller and the base stronger.

I'm afraid after getting the 230's the 40's are being moved to the back for surround duty. In true to JBL form the 230's deliver the legendary clear and undistorted sound that JBL has been known for for many years. I am very happy I got these speakers and would recommend them to anyone that still values true quality in sound.

I Have Finally "Heard the Truth"
These JBL 230's are sitting on my desk next to my laptop using JMedia player They are sitting on Isoacaustic stands. I am driving them with Parasound Zdac, Zpre, and Zamp. If I had to describe these speakers with one word I would choose "integrity". Every instrument is held in it's own acoustic space and I feel I am getting all of the information that was present in the recording space that these speakers are capable of presenting within their frequency range. I haven't added a sub yet because I wanted to hear them alone first. Listening to Ella Fitzgerald sing Georgia on My Mind backed by Nelson Riddle the horn section just leaps from the speakers at the beginning and then when Ella begins singing her voice is so delicate but so strongly enveloped by the orchestra it just seems "right". Now book shelf speakers don't have the dynamics of floorstanders but I didn't hear any type of tinny compression. What I do hear is a soundstage that extends about 3 feet outside of the speakers and a sweet spot that stays locked in even while I am moving around in my chair while I am working. The Parasound Z components are great and I am sure that driving these speakers with high quaity separates helps them sound their best. I look forward to pairing with a sub to add that dynamic range. The thing that is eating away at me now is wondering how this pairs big brothers would sound like the 290's or even a full surround system. The other thought that occurred to me while listening to these is I'll bet some of the recordings I listened to were mastered on JBL Pro speakers so of course the home speakers would likely give me that "integrity" of what the mastering engineer created. Thank you JBL!

Nim!
From the first moment the 230s were fired up, I knew that they were something special. While the bottom line is special, the high end is "stereo everywhere". For the price, I do not know of any speaker that can comepare.

Big surprise in small packet
I was surprised to listen the quality they produce with Yamaha RX-V675.. I bought it to listen only stereo music which i love. Right now I am listening them no more than -25 db as I live in apartment but I am waiting for time to play them on little bit louder.
