How did this get through R&D?
I spent an hour at a music store trying this and the Bose wearables.
1 movie, and 2 songs ( sound of silence , and 18 and life to go to get a full range of sounds.

The JBL pros are :

Amazing Mid, loud yet also clear.
4 speakers
40% cheaper than Bose.

Cons are :

Heavy ( minor annoyance. )
Scratches your neck each time you put it on or take it off. ( minor annoyance )
The Mid is overpowering. The highs and lows suffer for this. Im guessing an Ap EQ can adjust this. ( moderate annoyance. )
The show stopper however is the unbalanced speakers. It's like youre listening in a hall or stadium. The sounds coming from everywhere. Worse it moslty sounds like it's coming from behind you.
I actually spent more of the hour with the JBL honing in on where the voices etc were coming from. It's basically the side to back of you. After a few mins of watching a video, i got agravated. A guy in front of me would be talking to me, and yet his voice would sound like he's talking behind me. Really bizarre and after a few mins it got annoying and aggravating. In a video game it probably wouldnt matter. But even at that. When someone shoots at you, you hear it from the back. I'd have to imagine that being weird. You're trying to pinpoint where the shooter is with your ears, yet get a totally false signal.

Anyway, I really want to buy the JBLs due to the incredible mids. I'll just install an ap to tome them down a bit.

But i cannot deal with hearing everything as if it's all happening behind me. Will this JBL sound gear respond to a fading ap? I have to tone down those rear speakers if possible. If it's not designed for that, i'll just buy the bose or nothing.

Anyone fade the speakers?

The charge doesn't hold that well, for a speaker that costs well over $100.

First time with a device like this.
I'm very happy with the sound gear . Its my first one and I love the fact it goes everywhere with me. I play it low as to not impair my hearing . That allows the battery to last more than 8 hrs. I'm glad i made this purchase.

I fell asleep wearing this. I laid down, told my house AI to set a timer and fell asleep.

Now the bad part.
Unfortunately the system shuts it self down before the battery is fully drained, this is bad. Stagnant charge is debilitating to a battery. This flaw lessen the longevity of this device.
:( could have been great.

If you're not a headphone person...
As an alternative to headphones, I gotta say I'm mostly impressed. They are pretty comfortable, so long as you're not trying to ecercise with them. They have great battery life at moderate volumes and the soundstage they produce is awesome. It's like having a hifi system right in front of you, which is something headphones do not provide. Mid-bass is good but the lower octaves are lacking. I think this is more of a limitation of design. Who wants their neck vibrating-shaking and then battery life would take a bit hit too, so I get it. Overall pretty happy with them, just wish there was a way to disable the very loud on/off JBL tones.

Great sound, some trade-offs
For me personally, this type of wearable speaker is exactly what I've been waiting. I did a ton of shopping for the right one, and this JBL was my final decision and I've been very pleased with it. There are a few things that do bother me and why I rate it 4/5 though, so I'll list those items for others to consider.

First, though it's very comfortable to wear I feel like it's a bit heavier than I expected. This isn't really a big deal, but I do think it makes me get hotter underneath the device. When wearing while doing work or chores, I find that I sweat a bit underneath this speaker. I'm sure this will be much more noticeable come summer time.

Second is that the unit really doesn't flex at all. It rests on my shoulders fine, but I can't tweak how it does so really can't adjust the direction of the sound at all. Additionally, I have a bit of a thick neck so putting it on and taking it off tends to scratch me a little - particularly since the edges on the end are stiff and rather sharp.

And the last thing I was hoping for in a wearable like this and at this price point was the ability to adjust the sound details - treble, bass, or even a full equalizer. Unfortunately, it just is what it is. Thankfully JBL is pretty solid in this area, but would've been nice to adjust at least for the different types of content I listen to like books and podcasts.

Are these flexible?
A shopper on May 18, 2020
Thanks for your question. At .77lbs they are very lightweight but are not flexible. Reviews state that they rest comfortably on your shoulders and are non-fatiguing.
