Good sound, great build, real flaws
NOTE: I am *not* using this headset for gaming, so this review won’t cover that.

-Detailed, relatively neutral sound
-Great sounding mic
-Seemingly good build quality
-Reliable connectivity
-Good battery life

-Weird ANC
-On Bluetooth, mic picks up far too much background noise
-Very heavy
-Inconsistent tonal balance in different modes
-Included audio cable saps audio quality

I wanted a headset with a boom mic, with wired and wireless options, at a reasonable price point. Intended usage was for calls (phone and video) plus music listening on-the-go. The Quantum 800 delivers all of that, albeit with a side of seemingly inexplicable quirks and problems. In some scenarios, it’s flawed but good. In others, it’s unusable.

Audio quality is good. Very detailed, fairly neutral, very clear for the price. The onboard amp gets as loud as you like. In wired mode, the drivers are not difficult to power.

Voice quality through the mic is also very good for the price. Crisp, clean, natural.

The headset feels like it’s built like a tank. In over a year of almost daily use, I have seen nothing to suggest any part is going to break any time soon.

Bluetooth connectivity is easy and works every time. The 2.4 GHz connection works as seamlessly as you’d hope.

The ANC is a mixed experience. It works, but with caveats. When it’s on, you feel a weird pressure in your ears, and any significant movement of the headset on your head causes weird click/pop noises. All this for good-but-not-great noise reduction.

Abandon all hope of using this headset for calls in Bluetooth mode unless there is ZERO background noise and you stay perfectly still the whole time. I’ve had multiple people tell me the background noise from my end was intolerable. Apparently it’s fine while I’m talking but increases in volume when I stop, almost like there’s some automatic gain control that ends up amplifying every little sound from my environment while I’m not talking. The background noise is much less of an issue when using the headset in wireless mode, but that’s the opposite of what you’d expect from a headset with ANC. It should be using the external mics to reduce background noise. In other words, voice quality should be better when the onboard electronics are in charge. The reality is the opposite: the onboard electronics make the problem worse.

I contacted JBL’s customer support about this issue. To their credit, they were very responsive and did a warranty exchange for me. The replacement was obviously refurbed and had a weird rattle in one earcup, so they issued another exchange immediately and sent me a brand new headset. Solid customer service. Sadly, no change in the Bluetooth call background noise issue.

The headset is very, very heavy. Think 50% heavier or more vs. other wireless headsets in this range. Extended wearability is surprisingly good given the weight, but still not great. The weird pressure effect from the ANC makes long listening sessions worse.

Tonality is very different with and without ANC. Without ANC, the sound strongly emphasizes the midrange – more so than I’d like, especially in Bluetooth mode which has the worst sound quality. Fortunately this can be fixed via the EQ function in the software. A mild U-shaped curve makes everything alright. But when you turn on ANC, it applies its own fairly radical U-shaped EQ curve on top of whatever you’ve set. Nowhere is the obvious option to have different user EQ settings for ANC on vs. ANC off. You can set it to sound right with ANC on, or you can set it to sound right with ANC off. Not both.

As a matter of personal preference, I didn’t want the inline controls that the stock cable has. They feel cheap, I never use them, and I didn’t want anything fiddly on the cable. When I looked for replacement cables with 4-pole 3.5mm connectors (to retain the boom mic's functionality), all the options I saw were cheap junk, so I had a custom cable made by Redco Audio. Surprisingly, the Redco cable had noticeably better treble than the stock cable. Nice side benefit. Of course that also means the stock cable is limiting audio quality somewhat.

Overall, I’m not mad that I purchased this headset, but I struggle to understand what it’s really for. It has clear merits, but it also has significant liabilities that hinder it in almost any use case.

Worst office headsets I ever tried - STAY AWAY
Bought 10 pairs for a new office expecting the highest quality spent approx. 200 Euro per a headset. Apparently they cannot be used while charging which is just ridiculous. every time the pairing disconnects and then for some reason doesn't connect again, I spend half of my day trying to figure out my agents headset issues instead of focusing on actual business growth. Highly recommend you to avoid!

Worst headphones I've ever owned
These are seriously the worst headphones. They *NEVER* stay connected to bluetooth after the computer has been turned off. I have to re-pair them every time. But even then, they tend not to work! I have to go cycling through sound settings. Now, even the JBL software isn't picking them up. It keeps telling me to connect them, regardless of whether they're plugged in with USBC or bluetooth. These have been such a hassle I just want to throw them away. When my friends get online to game and I have to make them wait to fix my headphones, you know it's a fail. And often I don't even have them wait, I just say go play without me. For the love of God please fix the JBL Quantum Engine software, and fix these headphones. If it weren't too late to send them back I would. Also, they don't get loud enough to really enjoy music with deep bass. They start to crackle around 60% audio. I almost never review anything, but I had to this time.

so the headset works pretty great when wired, the audio quality is good but you can’t use the controls on the headset since i play on xbox, and i started using them wirelessly on my phone, and the first couple hours the ANC worked perfectly fine, and out of nowhere and very VERY annoying and discombobulating crackling noise constantly plays, i did nothing to cause that, it just happened out of nowhere.

Can't charge while using!
Fit nice; sound nice; can't charge while using... Huge flaw imo as headsets are used routine; meaning that I'll always have to have a backup in case this thing dies while I need it to work. Won't buy again; would not recommend for work/gaming.

Too good to give up
Honestly, accidentally stole these from my dad after he purchased them for himself and wanted me to test them out and learn how to use the controls to teach him... he ended up needing to get himself another pair. I have no shame. Take my review with a grain of salt. I'm very picky with actual headphones for listening to music, but this is my first headset.

Anyway, great headphones. The USB dongle is the best way to use them just because it'll force my Lenovo laptop to default all open apps to the 800 Game while bluetooth I'll have to restart everything (this is more a laptop issue). The sidetone feature is actually really helpful as well. The passive noise cancelling on the headphones is really good, but I like being able to hear myself speak and it prevents that awkward "hold on, let me take off my whole headset so I can hear you speak" moment. Invaluable. You HAVE to use the app to use and customize this setting, though. And I don't know how or why anyone is having issues with the dongle connecting to another source. I've used it on my laptop, at work, and on my boyfriends PS4 and never had an issue. I do have issues with the bluetooth going to sleep on my at random times while on my laptop. Completely fine on my phone, though. Haven't figured out how to deal with that yet.

The fact that it's discord certified is actually really nice as well. Being able to adjust between voice chat and my game is helpful when they start getting rowdier or the game gets somber. BUT I have the same issue as most people where it's really easy to change these settings and you can do it unintentionally. But if it's between not needing to readjust or not being able to fine-tune the settings... I'll just readjust.

I have nothing but good things to say about the sound. For casual listeners, you won't notice any issues. For people who need good sound quality, these headphones won't disappoint. Sound is clear and you won't deal with any compression or white noise issues for games and background music. They're not for actual hi-fi music, but good for any streaming (Youtube, Apple Music, Spotify, game soundtracks) they'll keep up.

I've also gotten SO MANY compliments on the mic's clarity and everyone knows when I'm using any other headphones for chat. It's good at filtering noise and only catching my voice when I'm in the office with my boyfriend.

Admittedly, I need to take better care of these headphones. I leave them at awkward angles, I transport them in a backpack with my laptop, they've been knocked off the desk, and yet they're still good.

Great headphones
Very good headphones. But the fact you can’t charge and use them at the same time I think is an extremely awful feature. That would improve the headphones massively. Forgetting to charge them and then not being able to use them is very very bad

Excellent Headphones with a BIG problem
I bought them with a new PC, super excited and started gaming.
No problems, everything how it should. Can connect Bluetooth to my tablet simultaniously, works great. Battery works for about 15 hours, i can confirm.

BUT: If you have to charge them you cannot use them. They refuse to turn on.
If you wanna play with friends you basically need a backup for them. I didn't notice a acustic warning while using them that the battery gets low...

Otherwise great but if i had knew that i wouldn't have bought them...

One simple feature that ruins the greatness
This Headset is honestly almost perfect. Sound quality is great, comfort is very good even though it is a bit on the heavier side. There is ome feature though which ruins it all. You can’t use it while charging. That is honestly mindblowing to me. Every wireless headset is usable while charging, but not this one. They give you a 3.5mm jack audio cable to use while charging, but that doesn’t really work on PC, as the PC has only split inputs for Audio and Mic. They write on some support side that this is a design choice, in that case it is the stupidest design ever. If you gonna do that, the battery time has to be way better. I can fully charge it and still i sometimes have to stop playing mid game to let the headset charge. Also the chat to game sound wheel is placed a little bad as i often manage to touch it when i take the headset of my head. Which means that i often have to re-adjust that.
