Customer Reviews for Garmin Dash Cam Mini Dashboard Camera
Purchased a week ago for my new pickup. Rather easy to set up and get going. The only negative is that I had to dig through the website to figure out what the LED lights on the unit meant. I had steady red lights which I assumed was an error and found out that in fact that is what was supposed to be showing and not the green light I was occasionally seeing. So far I have had no problems.
Works very well and the set-up was a breeze using the Garmin App. Also hook it up to the computer and the play back was very good. I use the samung micro pro endurance in the dashcam !! very important to use a good quality card.
I have had the camera a few days at this point. I like most everything about it. The only two issues I have are, 1 the camera does not have a shutoff switch it runs constantly if it has power. 2 it gets hot. I guess due to it not cutting off. Otherwise the picture quality is good and has a wide view angle.
Camera is nice and small, but to try to view live footage or review footage application doesn't work! What's the point of spending money for the features if it doesn't work? Bright 2 cameras same issues..
Being held back from trying it in the car. Instructions state temps have to be above 70 for the adhesive to work. Won’t see that for a few more months. Otherwise, it connects to the phone and displays video just fine, so have every reason to believe it will work as advertised.
nice cam to leave alone and let run, requires some work to view live and do other things. Its a great tool to have at a very fair price. It wont do anything if it thinks its plugged into a computer, or a cable that makes it think its connected to a pc.I expected more troubleshooting info from garmin, but had to hunt hard to find out how to do a reset and more... 3 star cause i own better that work w less pampering
I delayed buying a dashcam until I could get one that was small enough to be inconspicuous in the car. This one "hides" between the rear view mirror and windshield and does not disrupt the view of the driver.
The negative for this unit is powering the unit. One has to string the cable to a "cigarette" lighter power adapter. Otherwise, connecting to a USB port on the car puts it in computer-connected mode and the unit does not operate. It puts it in photo/video retrieval mode. There needs to be a switch or power cable that does not activate the computer attached mode.
However, even with this shortcoming, I have bought two of these - one for each car. They are portable but I use one in the rear of my newer SUV to record behind me.
I installed Garmin Dash Cam Mini as a back camera on my new Honda Passport & very next day was an accident caused by a drunk driver who tailgate me & then was trying to pass my car on a right & sideways hit my car & is good that I had a front camera also Garmin Dash Cam 45, after reviewing everything I like Mini camera even more then Cam 45, simple & excellent recording also insurance of other driver process my claim much faster after I presented videos. Now Installing Mini on my Acura also as a rear camera
This is a compact dash cam model so it doesn't interfere with driver view. The adhesive mount is very sticky---it won't easily come off. Camera view is a good wide angle. Was difficult to set up since instructions are very thin. Had to chat with Garmin tech to resolve issues, however after 30 minutes got it working. It's been fine for 30+ days now. Operates with a smartphone interface.
