The Focal CLEAR headphones are the latest evolution in the Focal’s renowned, open-back, full-range speaker family. Theses high-res headphones feature a custom designed M-shaped, 40mm full-range inverted-dome driver that features a frameless copper voice coil. Constructed from an aluminum/magnesium alloy, this driver accurately produce notes along a massive frequency range spanning from 5Hz to 28kHz. Highs are crisp and sparkly. Mids are lush and full. The bass is deep and powerful. Technical talk aside, Focal CLEAR Over-Ear High-Resolution Audiophile Headphones create a spacious, immersive soundstage that lets you hear music the way artist’s want it to be heard -- clear and powerful.
Our friends at Focal carefully selected the finents components when they assembled their CLEAR headphones. These over-ear high-res audiophile headphones feature a patent-pending “M”- shaped diaphragm, originally developed for the company’s much more expensive flagship headphone, the UTOPIA. The over-the-ear, open-back design delivers an open soundstage. Copper voice coils extend notes at the highest frequencies adding exciting new details to your favorite tunes. But what about the bass? Thanks to the massive 40mm drivers the Focal Clear delivers impactful and accurate bottom end you can feel.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or if we are talking about the Focal CLEAR, it is on the ears of the listener. From the elegant curves of the aluminum yoke to the stylish finish, these headphones make a fashion statement. But in the case of the Focal CLEAR, beauty is more than skin deep. The leather headband, and 20mm padded headphones, don’t just look good, they fit the contour of your head, creating a custom fit that ensures long lasting listening pleasure.
No matter how you plan to use your headphones the Focal CLEAR comes with the ideal headphone cable. These high-res headphones include a variety of 24 AWG oxygen free low resistance copper cables with a stylish cloth cover. Customer Reviews for Focal CLEAR Over-Ear High-Resolution Audiophile Headphones (Gray)
When the Clears arrived, you could tell right away they're selling a nice product. They came packaged really well, including a carry case that resembles a rigid designer hand bag, 2 braided cords (a long one with a 1/4" plug, and a shorter one with a 3.5mm plug), and a 3.5-1/4" adapter.
I plugged them in ready for my audio bliss, and honestly was a little underwhelmed at first. I immediately thought, 'oh no, I overpaid for something that I don't like as much as my M50xs'. They seemed a little flat at first, but I figured they may need some breaking in, so I ran them on my receiver a while before giving them another go. I'm not sure how many hours I ran them, but I could tell they were opening up and coming alive. Another thing I immediately noticed was how comfortable they are. I was concerned about the weight, but honestly, they fit on your head so well and balanced, they feel like a pillow on your head and you don't even notice them. The first time I noticed they were breaking in was having them hooked up to my Marantz receiver watching an action movie, and they started pumping out some fantastic, deep, low bass that I hadn't noticed at first. This surprised me a little being they're open-back cans. I also use them with a Yamaha A-S2100 and an older Marantz 2245. They now sound fantastic. I would describe them as their name suggests, 'Clear'. Clear and balanced. You can wear them for long periods, and forget you're wearing them, not just because of the comfort, but because the audio seems true. The bass is solid and deep, not boomy or over-pronounced. To me, it also stays true through the midrange and treble, airy, but not gimmicky or as wide as you might think of an open-backed set.
I do recommend the Clears, but prepare to give them a little time to shine. After a while, you'll be sitting with them on your head grinning, forgetting how good they are.
