Great power and functionality for the money
Bought reconditioned unit for the HDMI 2.1 upgrade. The AVR-X4700h replaced an older AVR-4802 (145 wpc 7.1, no HDMI, etc.. The 4802 will replace an AVR-3608 in the garage.

Unit has plenty of power for both 5.1 (has 9.2, but only using 5.1) and multi channel music. Set up was fairly easy with Samsung 8000 series 4k TV. All works with basic functions on Samsung smart remote, using Denon remote for more detailed functions. This unit was also purchased to run the garage AVR-3608 as Zone 2 for outdoor pool entertaining, etc. I bought a AVR-X1700h as well, but returned as is was underpowered for solid movie viewing.

First movie watched was The Ryan Project. Scared the crap out of me with the first jet flyover as I wasn't expecting it to be that good.

All in all very happy

Great sound and very adaptable package
A great upgrade to an older Yamaha unit I had. I did have the issue others have addressed where audio cuts out as the amp goes into protection mode. I tested every speaker connection and JUST worked with support today to find that the receiver did not like being powered through my surge suppressor. Running direct to the wall has seemed to solve this problem, although I still suspect it's an amp input draw issue, but it works now and I love it.

The sound is Denon awesome!! Also, it is setup and calibrate - much, much easier than older Denon AVR’s. The disappointing aspect is that the unit will not play multichannel sources via the USB port - only stereo!!! I really don’t understand that logic at all as I now either need to find a different AVR or purchase a very expensive NAS system to play my multichannel files. Ugh

Very Impressive!
This Denon is a fantastic receiver! I’m very impressed with the sound quality while listening to music in particular. It does a fantastic job of stereo imaging and really makes me feel like I’m in the middle of the music. The lows mids and highs are all clear and crisp. Honestly I bought this receiver mainly for watching movies on my 5.2.2 KLH Audio system and it does a fantastic job with movies but I’ve spent more time listening to music than movie watching. Great job Denon, I’m very impressed!

A breeze to setup for great home theatre
Easy to set up. Great sound. handles switching 4K HDR beautifully to my Epson 6050UB projector. It was especially nice to have the Audyssey to dial in the sound for my specific 7.2 speaker placements. Good peace of mind that all the $$$ aren’t being wasted on a suboptimal arrangement. With the right game (e.g. Halo Infinite that fully uses the surround sound I feel totally immersed.

Great Sound Poor Manual
Great sound using Dolby Atmos. Does not have a built in HDMI down scaler for a second TV that is only 1080p. You must use a external down scaler. The manual is only basic. I had a difficult time figuring out how to make certain features work.

Pretty good
I like the receiver but it has problems with the HDMI, from time to time the tv freezes and I have to go out of what I watch and start playing video again(on Amazon Prime), should be more instructions on how to set up 5.1.4 speakers.

How is the Denon AVR-X4700H receiver different than the Denon AVR-X4500H receiver?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2020
Thanks for your question. The Denon X4700H incorporates a number of upgrades: 8K/60Hx and 4K/120Hz support, HDR10+ support, fully enabled eARC, and enhanced gaming features, to mention a few.
Are the models manufactured after may of 2021 thus implementing the fix for the 2.1 hdmi bug?
A shopper on Aug 26, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The AVR-X4700H in our inventory was acquired after the upgrade and are not applicable for the HDMI Adapter Kit.
What kind of DAC is in this SND is it a 32 or 64 bit? Ive looked twice and cant seem to find that info!
A shopper on Nov 16, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The DAC Alpha Processing is 32 bit. More information at this link:
Can I use 3 zones independently and with different medias for each?
A shopper on Sep 17, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The AVR-X4700H is 3 zone capable. 3 zone simultaneous use is limited in regards to HDMI (video) sources. As comprehensive as the owners manual is, there are switching options that may be limited or not fully clarified. Denon tech support is a terrific resource when setting up and configuring the X4700H for maximum multi-zone operation:
HDMI 2.1?
A shopper on Jul 25, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. Denon specifications do not state HDMI version. Specifications do state that two of the HDMI inputs are 8K Capable.
Hi. Is this receiver comparable to the 125W/X9 as the Marantz SR7013? Will it play CDs in a surround (more than the 2 main fronts) sound? Is the BLUTOOTH adaptable to/from music on my iPhone to play through the speakers? I am obviously looking for the best video components I can get but am mainly concerned WITH THE SOUND..and the Marantz seems to have better reviews. (And then, of course, Im told that the Yamaha Aventage series are BEST for sound with my Klipsch speakersIDK! ALOT OF CONFUSEMENT here, but I just want to get it right the first time, as my SonyESV333 is over 20 years old and has no hdmi inputs, and you know I NEED THAT! Im looking to purchase at least by September, but will pull the trigger anytime on a great deal!!
Thank You in advance!
A shopper on Jul 9, 2021
Thanks for your inquiry. The Marantz units are generally favored for their sound quality when playing music. Denon and Marantz both feature multiple surround modes or pure stereo 2 channel when playing music. One challenge is that Yamaha, Marantz, and Denon may have product manufacturing delays and cannot provide an estimated ship date when we will have them back in stock. Check back with us periodically for any availability updates. Thanks for your interest.
