Tech support.
This is a sophisticated receiver. If you have any problems with your setup, Denon tech support will pleasantly work with you for as long as it takes.

The 8k Hdmi work around is an absolute joke.
As the title suggests, the work around for a $1500 receiver to do what it says on the box, is to give you an extra box (requiring you to plug it into a power outlet and use an extra hdmi cable). Luckily it only took 6 months from my initial request to receive it. Very speedy. Mind you the site said 10 - 14 days. The company never reached out, however, I did three times. Is this the kind of service I would recommend to a friend? Naw.

Fix the website, then everything is Awesome.
Works as advertised. Setup is straightforward, if not easy. Features are more than anyone would ever need. I still haven't run Audyssey because my speakers are not permanently placed. I wish there was a parametric EQ option for finer tuning. Purchasing through Denon's website is a nightmare with login issues. I could never log in again with my original account. The password reset link doesn't work saying my account does not exist, but that my email is not available for a new account. Turning off pop-up blockers helped, but it was an overall poor experience I would not recommend.

Nice AVR. All the bells and whistles I can handle!
Been looking at this since it came out. A little pricier than I normally go for. But I kept upgrading my AVR every few years to keep up with TV technology (720, 1080p, 3D, etc. So this time with a 4k TV upgrade, thought I would buy looking ahead. Since this one will "handle" up to 8K, figured I could spend "future upgrade money" now. Wi-fi, blue-tooth, Amazon Alexa features were nice. Lot's of connections (including legacy stuff). But am curious about one thing missing. Would probably only be for an old school user who liked to record music to his tape deck. I don't see any RCA audio "out" jacks, only in. So while I can play my Tape collection, I have to use older receiver (or some other work around) to make new tapes. And yes I know that is not a mainstream media anymore, but I still listen to tapes in my Yukon. Not a show stopper, but in case any other old timers at there, FYI. Oh, and get a cooling fan. This thing gets hot!

Outstanding AVR
This receiver is stunning. The number of inputs, power, and channel capabilities completely suits my needs. The 4K passthrough works brilliantly, and the receiver does a great job powering my Polk Monitor 70 Series II speakers. The Audyssey setup was also flawless, and running it gave my system the tweaks it needed to sound powerful when I need it and provides enough power at low volumes to be very useful. Overall I would recommend this system to anyone looking for an upgrade we to their sound!

Good for Movies, Horrible for Music
I previously owned Sony ES and Yamaha Aventage receivers, both of which failed after about 7 years. I was looking for an alternate brand that might last a little longer. At this price point I thought I was taking a slight step up, but at least a lateral move. Man did I end up in the disappointment camp... which I don't understand because this thing rated so highly in journalist reviews.

First, Audyssey - I don't get it. As much as people rave about this system, to me it arguably makes movies sound a bit better. But when it comes to music, take some peanut butter and spread it all over your speakers, then duct tape a pillow to the front of them, then toss them in your pool if you have one. This is what music sounds like played through Audyssey. And I set this up meticulously to the instructions, measuring distances and all. The problem is that I'm now having to turn the system on and off when I'm playing music or movies through the same source.

Surprisingly, most of the streaming music sounds quite good. I'll give it a firm improvement here over the Yamaha. Our zone 2 speakers are in our pool area which primarily are used with streaming and I really noticed an improvement in sound. However, for the life in me, I cannot get CD's to sound good. I have my list of songs I like to throw in, turn up, and just feel the deep notes coursing through my veins and I just can't get the Denon to deliver. If I had about triple the range to work with on the graphic EQ, maybe I could get it there. My wife, who could care less about how music sounds, even walked into the room one day and commented how crappy it sounded.

To conclude, I think its a good receiver for home theater, but the fact that it can't deliver on music just knocks it way down. In addition the app is also wanting - slow, clunky, disconnects often. And at this price point, they should add another $30 to the price of the stereo and include the darn Audyssey app instead of making people pay extra.

I'm still trying to find peace with this thing, but at this point it looks like I may be taking them up on their 60 day satisfaction guarantee.

Excellent receiver/amplifier.
More than sufficient power; lots of options for Dolby processing. A significant improvement would be to modify the remote control so that it could be used to control other devices.
