Great Entry Level Receiver
This is my second Denon AV Receiver. I use it in the living room with in-ceiling speakers and a Polk center channel speaker. I bought it because it's simple enough for my wife to use. Does anyone know which DAC chip this receiver uses?

My AVR-S540BT has issues
I purchased the Denon AVR-S540BT from Amazon on 12/3/2019 approximately 8 months ago. Starting yesterday 8/13/2020 it began automatically turning itself off and on repeatedly for various durations of time. It appears this receiver is covered by a 2 year warranty. I tried to reach Denon support by phone without success and I could not find an email address so I could email Denon about the issue. I would like to know what I need to do to remedy my situation.

I had Purchased the AVR-S540BT to go with my gaming P.C.- home theater and it is very frustrating because of black flickering screen. the dennon reciever loses signal to the hdmi port it goes on and off directly on the reciever when watching netflix amazon prime videos and youtube also noticed that sometimes it does not show the correct colors because i will turn the reciever off then back on and the colors will change i am using arc with 48gbps hdmi 6ft cables the only way i have been able to get around this issue is to remove hdmi totally and use the onboard sound from my motherboard via toslink cable i have a feeling the reciever is not getting enough bandwith or is limited in some way hence my flickering black screen

Be under no illusions that this is a high-end receiver, or a product that's "just as good" as the big boys for a fraction of the money. It isn't.

What it is is good enough to get you started, especially in a small room and/or with high efficiency speakers. I'm guessing it's no accident that WWS's bundles with this receiver all have Klipsch speakers.

It'll take multiple 4K HDR video sources and handle most surround formats just as well as higher-end receivers. It has Bluetooth connectivity, as well as basic room correction and speaker setup functionality. It's made well for what it is.

Its main weakness is wattage. As with most receivers, the headline wattage spec is with only one channel driven; with all speakers going, don't expect much more than 20 watts per channel. But that's just fine with high efficiency speakers -- especially when you add a subwoofer and dial the lowest frequencies out of your main speakers.

Its room correction isn't very sophisticated, but it's good enough for any application the receiver would be suited for.

Pre-outs would be nice as they'd make this receiver into an upgradeable platform, basically eliminating its main weakness in the long run. But again, pretty much a non-issue for this receiver's intended applications.

Overall, the AVR-S540BT is right on the money -- not in some cosmic sense, but for what it is. If you're building a 5.x setup from scratch on a very tight budget, start here (and get Klipsch speakers).

Great overall, but one annoying thing...
Great receiver for the price. My one complaint is that there is an onscreen volume display that I can't seem to turn off, and it is very distracting, especially for someone like me who is constantly making micro adjustments to the volume all the time. Is there a way to turn it off?

Excellent sound and easy to sue and set up
Last receiver had no ARC port so my son bought me the Denon AVR-S540bt. I was surprised at the improvement in quality and surround sound, particularly center channel dialog. Should be a 5 star but I can't play music from the usb. It isn't a failure I just needed the next model up. right now my tv gets wonky at times iwth its remote and I am troubleshooting whether it is arc to the Denon or something else with the television.

No phono input on this model.

There is no specific iPod connection although it will connect with Bluetooth (if your iPod supports this) or a line-level signal from an iPod headphone output.
