Product Information

Huge Bass from a Tiny EnclosureIf you want all the high impact bass excitement of the finest home theater audio systems without consuming a large amount of floor-space, and if you want the latest features and wireless connectivity, then this is the subwoofer for you. The SuperCube 6000 (along with the SuperCube 4000) is the newest model in the famed SuperCube Series and incorporates the latest digital technologies for bass performance that will leave you slack-jawed in amazement and delight. Definitive's engineers redesigned every part for maximum performance and added convenience and connectivity features that make them easy to use, versatile and perfectly tailored to your system and room for heart-pounding bass that will not fail to astound your friends and neighbors.

Features in the Service of PerformanceThe most obvious departures from previous SuperCube models are the addition of a digital display (cleverly hidden under the grille cloth) and a wireless remote. They're much more than an aid for chronic couch potatoes; they're serious performance optimizing tools for perfectly blending the subwoofer to your system and room and correcting for differences in program material.

In an ideal audio system the subwoofer works "invisibly," simply adding deep, loud bass without calling attention to itselfblending seamlessly with the main speakers. The key to seamless main speaker/sub blending is finding the perfect crossover frequency, equalization and phase settings for your system and room. And the best place to make those "set and forget" adjustments is from your listening chair via a wireless remote. For everyday use the remote makes it easy to set just the right amount of bass output to compensate for program material differences. As you make settings adjustments, the hidden display lights up to indicate the setting value and then turns off a few seconds later. You'll get exactly the bass performance you want  effortlessly at the touch of a button.

Digital Tracking Amplifier for Clean High OutputThe SC6000 features a designed-from-the-ground-up brawny Class HD digital tracking amplifier that is optimized for real world power demands to deliver low distortion and high output. As well as producing high continuous power to cleanly reproduce sustained bass, this all-new Definitive amp has a high crest factor to deliver considerably higher power during short, transient peaks such as bass drum kicks and on-screen artillery blasts. You'll enjoy high volume, high impact, and low distortion bass from your favorite action/adventure films and TV shows without sacrificing the smooth response and quick precision needed for music.

As well as being powerful, the new Definitive amps are environment-friendly. The amplifiers go into idle mode less than 30 minutes after the cessation of signal and draws a mere half Watt or less of current, meeting international standards for low energy consumption.

Computers in the Subwoofer Exert Precise ControlThe SuperCube 6000 has an integrated 56 bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP)in essence a mini computerthat extends and improves the bass response. Multi-band digital protection systems tightly monitor and control the woofer system to prevent distortion and woofer damage at ultra-high volume levels with a minimum of audible artifacts. In contrast to simpler one-band compression/limiting circuits used in competing subwoofer amp designs, the Definitive subs feature a Multiband Dynamic Range Optimizer (M-DRO) that divides the frequency range into multiple bands. If the DSP detects an overdrive condition in the upper bass range, it applies just the right amount of compression and to prevent distortion to just that range without compressing the low bass, thereby vastly reducing the audible compression artifacts. The bottom line is that SuperCube bass is always tight, highly detailed and distortion free.

Rock Solid Cabinets Ensure Pure Low Distortion ResponseThe cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important acoustical energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofer enclosures have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. The front and rear panels are nearly 2-inches thick and the cabinet incorporates multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity. To top off the extraordinary performance, the SuperCube 6000 is finished in gorgeous piano-gloss black.

High-Definition Subwoofer Drivers Deliver Superior Detail and Lightning-Fast Transient ResponseThe powerful, high-definition drivers used in the new SuperCubes were specifically engineered for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response ("tightness"). The special ultra-stiff cones are joined to specially formulated surrounds and long-throw voice coils and spiders. The incredibly rigid cast Aluminum baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for superior power handling and reliability.

The SuperCube 6000 features a new 9-inch (23cm) subwoofer driver pressure coupled to two 8-inch (25cm) Ultra Low Bass Radiators. The total piston area is greater than a 14-inch diameter woofer but with far greater speed, musicality and control than a single large diameter woofer could ever deliverand it all fits in an impossibly tiny enclosure that is easy to tuck away out of sight. The SuperCube 6000 can fill the largest domestic spaces with loud, visceral, extended and musical bass yet it occupies just over a square foot of floor space!

A of Inputs Facilitates Easy Hookup to Any SystemThe SuperCube 6000 can connect to any audio system via your choice of single cable LFE, stereo line level and speaker wire level inputs. Or you can choose to go wireless with the optional wireless connectivity kit for the ultimate in connection convenience.

Outstanding performance for the size
This has been a great, feature-packed little subwoofer that I have really enjoyed having in my home theater. I had been looking into online subs by small manufacturers as I had been under the impression that you couldn't beat the bang for your buck you got from a vendor like SVS or Hsu... except that is not true. These companies do not design products that will actually integrate into a living room as well as this Supercube 6000. None of them have the same design pedigree, none of them make a subwoofer with this much performance in this small of an enclosure, and none of them have the awesome remote control.

That is one of my favorite parts of the SC6000. Being able to alter volume levels, EQ curves, phase, and crossover points from your listening position across the room has been far more useful than I thought possible.

Even better than that though, is the sheer musicality of this sub. The small drivers give it a lot of immediacy and accuracy. The Supercube is perfectly transparent and blends flawlessly with my front towers. For music and concert DVDs, it is utterly perfect. If you are primarily a music listener, the SC6000 may very well represent the best bang for your buck available from a brick & mortar retailer.

For home theater, it is still great but physics unfortunately steps in a bit. For most movies, the SC6000 is outstanding. The same accuracy and transparency that works so well for music gives the sub an outstanding, punchy attack that lends serious impact to all kinds of movies. Except, in the end, we are still talking about small drivers here.... for ultra low bass, such as the introduction to Prometheus, certain sections in Oblivion, and the introduction of the latest director's cut of Blade Runner, you will find that the subwoofer starts to emit more mechanical noise from the driver running out of travel than it does it bass.

Please don't believe the rated 14hz low end. This sub is good to maybe the mid, to low, 20s. It is rarely an issue but if all-powerful low end performance is high on your priority list this sub is not going to fit the bill - but you were probably already looking at larger subs anyway.

As you may guess from the past tense wording of this review, this sub has been moved out of my home theater in favor of something much, much larger (and uglier). Where did it end up? It is so good, it is now paired with two ADAM Audio studio monitors in my home studio to serve as a reference subwoofer for audio recording, mixing and mastering. If I wasn't such a bass head when it comes to movies, it would still be attached to my home theater but I believe a hi-fi audio system is an even better fit for the SC6000.

Perfect Bass for Music, Movies and Games!
I actually received the SuperCube 6000 as a bit of a free upgrade from Definitive Tech, as they didn't have any SuperCube 4000's in stock at the warehouse closest to me! While I have never heard the 4000, I am so incredibly happy I ended up getting the 6000 (especially for the price of the 4000)! I keep it tucked out of the way in the front corner of my living room, slightly angled towards the center of the room (just to give the bass radiators room), and this thing is loud, accurate, and shakes the glasses in the cabinet two rooms away when you want it too. Turn it down a bit, play some soft music, and paired with the SM-65s, it picks up on all the small nuances of the upright bass in Lisa Hannigan's "Sea Sew" album.

I'm using Yamaha's RX-A3030 and have the EQ setup with a +3.0db gain at 125.0hz with a very wide slope (0.500 Q).

I can get a complete testing spec. sheet on the SC-6000. I would like to know it's performance at +/- 3 db, how it performed in an anechoic chamber, where are its peaks and knolls on bass sweeps, etc., etc.
Any help would be appreciated in finding out what the true performance of these subs are. I'm sure def tech or a independent lab has surely put these to the standard industry tests and published the numbers, I just cant find them anywhere.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Blow away, literally
I really looked hard to find a good looking sub that was not a monster. I was a little skeptical on how well this sub would do. I could not be happier. It is a bit overrated in how low it can go. I measure it as going down to 25hz. I had hoped when I added a 2nd it might lower it a little bit further but it did not. But to my ears, my chest and every nick nack and walling in the house these subs feel HUGE.

How low can you go!
It's been just over a week since I bought my Super Cube 6000 and I am very pleased. I replaced my old sub Def. Tech PF-15 not PF-15tl. Circa 1997. Wow what a difference! The old sub was great, but was very one noted and not very musical. The 6000 is very solid and hits lows truthfully in movies as well as music. I love Blueray concerts and boy does this baby sing with AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd. One thing I bought with this sub is a Auralex subwoofer bass. What a difference it makes, for only $80.00 it tames the listening area of standing waves which can drive one crazy and muffle center channel speech during movies. I love the remote control for it's ease of use and the ability it gives the user to adjust bass response dependent on material. I highly recommend this subwoofer. Just be patient and don't over do it on bass or it will sound muddy and Clip.

SuperCube 6000 times Two
I was looking for a Subwoofer that was relatively small, with great performance but they also had to be good looking. The SuperCube 6000 exceeded my expectations in every regard. I actually have two in my system, both on the right and left hand speaker displays. I never play them above the (20) setting and often find myself turning them down, with the handy dandy remote. If you want to know how your Subs are performing try a listen to 'Daft Punk's' recording of "Disc Wars" (especially on vinyl). With the extremely clean and elegant look of the all black finish, along with the slightly subdued presence of the red power level setting (which you can turn off.... but never will) these Subs have everything going for them. So if you are looking for great performance in a relatively small package you can't do any better.
