Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 Satellite Speaker Features:

The Secret to Their Big Sound

 • Competing satellite speakers of this size usually have weak lower-midrange response; that part of the audio range that contains the "warmth" and "body" of voices and musical instruments. Listen to a male vocal on typical small satellite speakers and you will instantly hear what we mean. The ProMonitor satellites avoid this critical problem by pressure-coupling our exclusive BDSS technology driver to an equal-sized mid/bass radiator cleverly placed on the top of the satellite. This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. You'll enjoy the kind of rich, warm and life-like sound quality that you thought was only possible with big, hard to place speakers.

Easy to Place, Easy to Use

 • Small enough to disappear in a room but beautiful when in plain view the 800 satellites can be shelf-mounted with their unique tri-lobed base, wall-mounted using the built-in keyhole mount or optional ProMount 80 articulating pivot mounts or stand mounted with their optional ProStand 600/800 floor stands.

The Sound

 • Sonically, the ProMonitor 800 satellite is a revelation in terms of achieving incredible sound at an affordable price. Their imaging is absolutely boxless, spacious and three dimensional while delivering pinpoint specificity and localization when called for. They are velvety smooth with you-are-there presence which is hard to find at any price and unheard of in this price range. The 800 is dynamic but capable of great subtlety so it excels equally with music or movies.

Lady's joy
I often wonder why my husband made our living room a jungle with all those big speaker boxes; so I complained. He replied that small speakers do not bring out true cinema sound. I still complained.... so we tested five small speaker sets and I had to agree with him until I listened to the little 800 at Best Buy. So I bought them and we auditioned them together.
My husband's response was that he never heard heard any other small speaker bring out such rich sound. So we got rid of the big coffin-looking boxes and now we have more space to dance.

To make a long story short, my wife, 3 year old son and myself outgrew our old house and moved into a larger house. Ironic as it may sound, by moving into a larger house I lost my "man room" and no longer had a place to set up a surround system. I left behind my Cambridge Soundworks surround system in my previous house and needed to find a really good pair of small full range speakers for my new home. Over the years I have owned some fine speakers from companies such as Boston Acoustics, Polk, JBL and Cambridge Soundworks. I have not purchased speakers for a few years and needed to do some research before making my purchase. After visiting many web sights comparing small bookshelf style speakers and visiting a few HIFI stores, I was AMAZED by the sound that the Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 produced. Even without a subwoofer, the sound was full and clear.

I compared them to other brands that I was familiar with such as the ones I had previously owned and it was no contest. All the other speakers sounded as I thought they would, good but not outstanding. The Def Tech 800 had me shaking my head as to how such a small speaker in size could sound so large. The clarity was amazing and the bass was much deeper than expected. After comparing a few more speaker brands, I quickly returned to purchase the Def Tech 800. I brought them home and hooked them up my modest Marantz SR 4200 receiver. The music that was heard even amazed my wife who could care less about stereo equipment. Her first question to me was how much did I pay for such awesome sounding speakers. At first she didn't believe the small price but after showing her the receipt, she was as amazed as I first was when I listened to them.

As I have previously mentioned, all the previous brands of speakers I have owned sounded really good and I was pleased with but after listening and purchasing Definitive Technology speakers, I will never purchase another brand of speaker again.

FANTASTIC JOB DEF TECH!!!

The mid-range can sound week when powered will a low powered amp.
While it's true that the speaker sounds better listening to electronic Music than classical, using a sub can easily solve this problem.
These little giants deserve at least a 4.5 ratings. Rex

A speaker that is all of 8" x 4" and still makes for great, non-tiring music listening sessions is a wonderful thing. I am using these in a 2.1 with a Harman Kardon receiver and a Martin Logan sub and even movies sound great. And this is while I am still working on figuring out the best crossover from the sub to the satellites.
