Bowers & Wilkins HTM6 Center Channel Speaker Overview
With its brand new HTM6 center channel, storied British speaker builder Bowers & Wilkins completes its rethinking of the popular-priced home theater setup. It’s a companion for the entry-level 600 line, which is redesigned from the bottom up. The heart of the HTM6 is its dual 5-inch Continuum cone woofer/midrange drivers, based on a design developed for Bowers & Wilkins’ 800 Diamond series. The Continuum cones deliver superior imaging and detailing thanks to their low-mass, low-distortion construction, while a rear bass port adds oomph well beyond the box’s compact size. The dual drivers flank a 1-inch Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, with an ultra-light, ultra-stiff aluminum cone bonded to an aluminum ring, driven by a neodymium magnet and decoupled from the cabinet by a gel-filled housing, for crisp transients and wide soundstage. Magnetic latches are invisible for a stylish presentation with or without the grille, and matte black or white finishes blend into any home décor.

Continuum: A break with the past
Since the 1970s, Bowers & Wilkins has pioneered the use of Kevlar in speaker cones, a fabric prized for low-mass resiliency, which means it can move fast and far with less breakup and distortion. After years of research, the company came up with an improved material it calls Continuum, reducing breakup even further, particularly at the edges. First introduced in the line-topping 800 series, Bowers & Wilkins now brings this advance to the entry level – and replaces its iconic yellow cones with the silvery surface of Continuum.
Decoupling the Dome
The tweeter continues along the innovation curve with the Decoupled Double Dome technology. A 1-inch ultra-light aluminum diaphragm is surrounded by an aluminum ring for stability around the outer edges, where breakup is most likely to occur. Together they push what Bowers & Wilkins calls the “breakup frequency” of the tweeter to 38kHz, to minimize interactions in the audible range and extend the highs beyond human hearing. And the whole assembly is surrounded by a gel-filled ring to minimize interactions with the cabinet and improve dispersion.
Peeling back layers
Together, the two CC low/midranges and the DDD tweeter draw a rich, deep soundstage that peels back the layers of the soundtrack for ultimate detail and clarity. Every movement, every whisper, every crash is faithfully reproduced by the HTM6.
Adjustable bass reflex port
The bass reflex Flowport at the rear of the HTM6 adds authority to the audio, and foam plugs are included to fine-tune the low-end output to the positioning in the room, so you can confidently place the HTM6 as close to your wall-mounted flat screen as you wish.
Compact and unobtrusive
The HTM6 packs real power into modest dimensions, with attractive matte black or white finish to blend with any décor, and invisible magnetic latches for display with or without the attractive grille cover. Dual binding posts offer the flexibility to connect separate amp channels for the highs and lows.
True-to-life surround sound
Combined with the sonically similar 603 floorstanding speaker, 606 bookshelf model or baby brother 607 bookshelf speaker, the HTM6 serves as the center of a superior home theater setup with the sort of sonic precision that has made Bowers & Wilkins an audiophile legend.
