706 S3 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker
Studio Sound Comes Home
The 706 S3 is an outstanding standmount loudspeaker for use in larger spaces. Thanks to its decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter and carefully upgraded crossover, it provides exceptional detail and insight into your music, while its substantial 165mm (6.5in) Continuum Cone bass/midrange drive unit provides ample scale and extension. Like its 705 S3 sibling, it performs at its best on the optional FS-700 S3 stand.
Carbon Dome Tweeters
Carbon Dome tweeters are purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on the aluminum double-dome tweeter, they raise the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail.
Sometimes, making a big difference takes unconventional thinking. The transition from Bowers & Wilkins' famous yellow Aramid Fiber midrange cones to Continuum Cone technology resulted in a massive improvement to midrange performance. Now, they turned their attention to another crucial element in a loudspeaker cone: the fabric spider. The new Biomimetic Suspension revolutionizes midrange cone performance by greatly reducing the unwanted air pressure and coloration that a conventional fabric spider can generate. The result? Midrange transparency you wouldn’t believe possible.
Thanks to its composite construction, the Continuum™ cone avoids the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit. The result is a more open, neutral performance that delivers voices and instruments with precision and transparency.
Decoupled Midrange Assembly
Every three-way loudspeaker in the new 700 Series has a dedicated midrange cone using four key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum cone, FST™, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling, the latter ensuring minimal interference from the operation of the loudspeaker’s bass drivers.
Aerofoil™ Profile Bass Cone
Developed using advanced computer modeling techniques, the Aerofoil™ Profile bass cone has variable thickness, providing stiffness and rigidity where it’s needed most. The result: deep and dynamic bass.
The new 700 Series features a curved front baffle for the first time. This allows the midrange and bass drivers to be located in individual pod-type housings that sit proud of the speaker baffle. When combined with the curvature of the structure, this new approach – derived from the 800 Series Diamond – reduces the audible impact of the cabinet, creating a cleaner, more open and more immersive sound.
FS-700 Floor Stand for S3 700 Series Bookshelf Speaker
705 S3, 706 S3 and 707 S3 work best when positioned in their ideal listening position and at the correct height. Bowers & Wilkins' elegant FS-700 S3 stands handle both tasks perfectly and are available in complementary black or silver finishes. Their upgraded design includes a subtle curvature to each column to match the front baffle of each speaker, a bright metal detail running up that column to further accent their premium design, and fillable columns that can be mass-loaded for outstanding stability and quietness. Cable management is also included – as is the option of securely bolting each model of speaker to the top-plate of the stand, ensuring optimum safety.
