Bowers & Wilkins 607 Bookshelf Speaker Overview
Bowers & Wilkins has redesigned and upgraded its entry-level line, and even the baby of the family, the 607 bookshelf speaker, shares more than a brand name with its bigger siblings. The entire line adapts many of the technological innovations found in the highly regarded 800 and 700 series. The 607 starts with the revolutionary Continuum cone woofer/midrange, based on a design developed for Bowers & Wilkins’ 800 Diamond series. The 5-inch cone delivers superior imaging and detailing, thanks to its low-mass, low-distortion structure, while a rear bass port adds oomph well beyond the box’s diminutive size. The 1-inch Decoupled Double Dome tweeter has an ultra-light, ultra-stiff aluminum cone bonded to an aluminum ring, driven by a neodymium magnet and decoupled from the cabinet by a gel-filled housing – all of which adds up to crisp transients and wide soundstage. Magnetic latches are invisible for a stylish presentation with or without the grille, and matte black or white finishes blend into any home décor.

Continuum: A break with the past
Since the 1970s, Bowers & Wilkins has pioneered the use of Kevlar in speaker cones. It’s prized for low-mass resiliency, which means it can move fast and far with less breakup and distortion. After years of research, the company came up with an improved material it calls Continuum, reducing breakup and distortion even further, particularly at the edges. First introduced in the line-topping 800 series, Bowers & Wilkins now brings this advance to even the tiniest of entry-level models – and replaces the company’s iconic yellow cones with the silvery surface of Continuum.
Decoupling the Dome
The tweeter continues along the innovation curve with Decoupled Double Dome technology. A 1-inch ultra-light aluminum diaphragm is surrounded by an aluminum ring for stability around the edges, where breakup is most likely to occur. Together they push what Bowers & Wilkins calls the “breakup frequency” of the tweeter to 38kHz, to minimize interactions in the audible range and extend the highs beyond human hearing. And the entire assembly is surrounded by a gel-filled ring to minimize interactions with the cabinet and improve dispersion.
Peeling back the layers
Together, the CC low/midrange and the DDD tweeter draw a rich, deep soundstage that peels back the layers of the music – or the movie – to reveal greater detail and clarity.
Adjustable bass reflex port
The Flowport bass vent in the 607 has been moved to the rear of the cabinet, for cleaner visual presentation, and foam plugs are included to fine-tune the bass output to the positioning in the room, so you can confidently place the 607s close to, or far from, bounding walls.
Buttoned-down British style
As opposed to the strikingly attention-getting curves of Bowers & Wilkins’ top models, the 607 stands serene, with attractive matte black or white finish to blend with any décor, and invisible magnetic latches for setup with or without grille. Dual binding posts offer the flexibility to connect separate amp channels for the highs and lows.
A complete home theater setup
Pair the 607s with the sonically similar 603 floorstanding speaker, 606 bookshelf model, and HTM6 center channel, and you have a moderately-priced home theater setup with the sort of sonic precision that has made Bowers & Wilkins’ speakers the envy of audiophiles everywhere.
