Product Information

No Wires; No Stopping You

Get clear, powerful sound from Bose's first truly wireless in-ear headphones. They're engineered to stay in place and stay comfortable. Bose packed them full of technologies so you can push your workout to the next level.

  • StayHear+ sport tips provide a secure and comfortable fit, so your headphones won't fall out
  • A multi-function button to play, pause, skip track, or take and end calls
  • Volume-optimized EQ makes these earbuds sound amazing at any volume
  • The specially designed nozzle spreads contact evenly to stay comfortable
  • Bluetooth antenna is designed for strong, reliable connections
  • IPX4 rating means these earbuds aren't afraid of sweat or rain

Better Earbuds by Design

When it came to the tech inside these earbuds, Bose focused on every little detail - from tuning the circuits for improved sound to tweaking the antenna position for maximum Bluetooth signal strength. The result? Headphones that play consistently and clearly whether your phone is in your hand, in your pocket, or strapped to your arm or sitting on the treadmill... and there's never a wire in sight.

In-Ears That Stand Out But Stay Put

These headphones have an unmatched combination of comfort and stability. That's because Bose engineered the nozzle of their StayHear+ Sport tips to spread contact evenly around the inside of your ear, while the fin conforms naturally to the shape of the outer ridge of your ear. They won't fall out, but they will stay comfortable. And you can focus on reaching new heights in your workouts.

Peak Power for Peak Performance

A better athletic performance takes years of effort. The same is true with engineering the performance of headphones. And Bose has been working on it for decades. The volume-optimized EQ and Bose digital signal processing make music sound full and balanced at any volume. No matter how crowded the gym is, your workout playlist will keep you energized.

Sweat - Without Sweating On It

Water and headphones typically don't play nice together. But Bose found a way to make it work. By using a water-repellent mesh in the open ports, Bose can keep what's inside dry and fully functional. These earbuds aren't afraid of sweat or rain - and now a little weather can't be an excuse to skip a workout.

Much More Than a Case

Off a single charge, the earbuds play for up to five hours - long enough to power you through almost any workout. And when you're done, place them in their case to recover. It'll keep them protected and provides two additional full charges (or up to 10 hours of battery life) to keep them ready to go again. Plus, a quick 15-minute charge will give you 45 minutes of battery.

Worth the wait...and the big bucks!
OK, so they are large and stick out, as do the other Sound Sport models and most other brands’ attempts at this. But how else do you expect to get wireless BT earbuds to produce sound this good with 5 hours of battery life, a secure really comfortable fit, and such reliable connectivity? The Airpods are no match for these. Well done Bose! I love them!! Glad I waited for you to do this, just like I waited for you to do the QC-35.

Love at first try
Just received mine today. Better than expected. Fantastic base. Stays in place. Don’t understand those that say they stick out too far. Fit perfectly.

Great sounding minus one feature
Great everything, except when I answer a phone call, I want to be able to hear the call out of BOTH ears vs one ear.
Apple nailed it except they fall out and aren’t very comfortable, these are more comfortable but they lack that’s one feature and seem less interaction with my Apple phone.

Great sound quality but has MANY issues
The headphones sound great and fit very well in the ear. However, the product has some major flaws:

1) Audio and video are not in sync no matter what you do. Bose recommends under a lot of the reviews that you call them for this issue but when you call them they have no clue and just recommend you return the headphones!

2) Calls only play in your right ear. Not sure why anyone would ever want that. I want to hear the calls out of both ears. This isn't the 90s or early 2000s.

3) You cannot pair with more than 1 device at a time so you have to manually disconnect from one device to connect to another.

4) I paired the headphones with my laptop and audio only plays out of the right ear.

For all of the above reasons, and the horrible customer support experience, I would recommend that you stay away from these headphones unless you want to JUST use them for listening to music and nothing else. But not sure that would justify the price tag...

Sound, Great Great sound
Have them for one day, hooked them up to my Pixel 2 XL blown by the portable sound system I have. As to the other features such as "ok google" its pretty good. Still learning how to make calls. But i bought these to listen to music and that alone is worth the price. Bose does it again. Bass galore.

Giant let down
I thought these would be fantastic with my new galaxy note8... Boy was I wrong. The following issues are confirmed as known and not device specific by bose. No fix via firmware can be guaranteed. The firmware update from 1.1 to 1.2 yesterday did not alleviate any of these issues.

Phone calls - audio heard through right ear only. Cannot be used as a mono headset on the left ear. If spending lots of time on the phone, this results in real world left right hearing bias since you cannot spend an hour on one ear an then an hour on the other like you can with traditional soundsports and other wireless stereo Bluetooth headset.

Left earpiece does not contain a microphone. Like it's physically missing.

2-3 second sync issues (read "lag") during video playback. This includes everything from your Netflix app to YouTube. These headphones might as well say "Not for use with video playback"

I'll be returning these. I can't deal with the sync issue or can I handle feeling like I have hearing damage to one ear all day.

Solid performance
I purchased the SoundSport Free at a Bose store in Portland. I was also able try them at the store before buying them. With Bose I don’t need to give a review because I know their products are and have always been quality. There are already in depth reviews so I’ll just share my personal use and experience. I travel often and I’ve enjoyed listening to them everywhere I go, it’s been reliable even on an airplane, I’ll leave my IPhone (6s plus) in my seat pocket and walk to the lav at the back of the plane and still have music playing.

Fun thing to note, if you have an Apple Watch (I use a series 2) you can have your phone in your pocket or bag and when you look at your watch and see what song is playing, you can also adjust the volume and skip the song via the “now playing” utility/modular face option, you can’t change or look through other playlists (I use Spotify, Pandora, Amazon music) but it’s not an issue for me because like most people that have created certain playlists for certain occasions, I can stick to one list and just play it through. The SoundSport Free does have physical volume buttons on the right ear piece but I found it to be cumbersome and tried/used it once and never after that, because after I found out you can adjust the volume via the Apple Watch I practically forgot about it, but I don’t know if the same feature is available on Android devices but I hope it is so everyone can really enjoy it, and if it is, I hope someone shares their experiences with an Android phone and smart watch.

Bose, if you remove the volume buttons, I feel that with the extra space, you can either add more battery life or amplify the sound output or reduce the size of the earphones to give it a more sleek, subtle, and minimalist look, provided that Android users can adjust the volume and skip songs via their smart watches like Apple watches can. Bose does a very good job at introducing good quality products to the market and then making it even better by building on customer experiences, I look forward to the next gen models, but I’m definitely happy I waited for Bose to come out with their own wireless earphones and purchased them instead of the Apple wireless EarPods. With any quality product from Apple, Android, and Bose, get the warranty.

*I’ve attached photos showing the music streaming apps on the Apple Watch utility/modular face.

Bose Delivers Yet Again
Initially, I was a bit hesitant to purchase these earbuds, in part due to the cost, but also in fear that I would inevitably lose them. However, I couldn't be happier that I went ahead and bought them - they're comfortable, easy to use, and deliver Bose quality sound. I expect to use them for years to come at the gym, at work, and on my commute.

Near perfect for me!
I'm a triathlete who runs about 750-1000 miles per year, in the outdoors rain or shine in Hawaii. I purchased the SoundSport Wireless headphones when they first came out last year. Although there was a design issue with sweat causing it to fail after 3 months, Bose quickly replaced them with a redesigned pair that lasted me over a year. The second pair lasted about 13 months and they recently stopped working, however Bose Customer Support replaced them with yet another brand-new pair, even though I was out of warranty. I'd like to note here that the SoundSport Wireless have been the most durable pair of earbuds I've used, wired or wireless. When I saw the new SoundSport Free headphones I was very interested, and although the price seemed high, I ordered them for a couple of reasons. First, the new SSF headphones now carry an IPX4 water-resistant rating, while the SSW did not, and second, the outstanding service I've received make me confident that Bose stands behind their products. I tried the SSF on a 15-mile run last weekend, and found that they are light, secure, and very comfortable. Sound quality is excellent, and I love having controls on the earbud where they are easy to access. I also loved the absence of a wire that would often bounce on my neck, or that I'd have to keep clipped to my shirt. Over the two hours that I was running, I had one very slight dropout in the left earbud, which was a fraction of a second. I'm hopeful that my new SoundSport Free will be reliable, because from what I can see, Bose engineers their products very well and improves on their designs regularly. (I'm an engineer, BTW).

If I could make one suggestion to the designers, it would be to add an auditory feedback tone when a button is pressed. Often my phone will take a second or two before responding to a button push, and without the tone there's an uncertain feeling that maybe the button isn't reliably making contact, and I end up re-pressing it to check.
