AudioQuest YIQ component video cables include three identical maximum performance coaxial cables, one for each of the three component signals; the “Y” (b&w) signal and the “I” and “Q” signals (also known as Pb and Pr), which contain all the color information. In the two channel S-video system (also known as Y/C), the “I” and “Q” component signals are combined to create a single “C” signal. When available, a three-channel component signal is better because it avoids the degradation caused by the process of combining and separating.
SOLID 1.25% SILVER CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate inter-strand distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high frequency applications, such as component video’s 30MHz+ signal. These signals, being such a high frequency travel, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. As the surface is made of high purity silver, the performance is very close to that of a solid silver cable, but priced much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost effective way of manufacturing very high quality 75Ω cables. In order to achieve the best sound all digital audio conductors are controlled for directionality.
NITROGEN-INJECTED HARD-CELL FOAM INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation, circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Nitrogen-Injected Hard-Cell Foam insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry while minimizing insulation induced phase distortion.
SHIELD COVERAGE (FOIL and SILVER-PLATED BRAID): Shielding always plays an important role in any cable design, but the shield on coax interconnect plays an especially important role because it functions not only as a shield but return path as well. Because of this, AudioQuest pays special attention to the shield’s metal quality and the fabrication technique as this will affect both the sound and the picture.
